  • I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 17.3

Finally, the last part of chapter 17!!

    Breathtaking Beauty

Yet, no matter how complicated the process was and the countless of times that things might change, this three-day orientation event still finally happened as planned.

With the cooperation of the Social Council and various departments of the Student Union, all social channels, whether it be the banners, the school broadcasts, the small advertisements or even BBS, had advertisements in place. In order to further increase the flow of people, invitations were also sent to several nearby schools whom they had close relations with.

Not only that, many school hunks and beauties of the school with their own fans also had their own separate invitations. Lastly, to further hype up the event, various programs of the opening ceremony of the orientation invited the champions of the school’s top ten singers and the previous year’s champions, as well as the highly popular runners-up.

The popularity of this orientation event was directly comparable to the campus singing competition.

For this orientation, Wen Le called her nainai* early and asked if she could borrow a cheongsam. Each of Grandma’s cheongsam** was a hand-made treasure that could stand the test of time and was worth collecting.

*nainai = paternal grandmother in chinese

**cheongsam = chinese traditional costume dress that originated in China.

Wen Le did not have a program during the opening ceremony, but in order to attract attention, Zhou Kao had a program at the opening ceremony. The stage debut of the newly-crowned school hunk was also highly anticipated by everyone.

The cheongsam that Wen Le wanted was only sent on the morning of the first day of Orientation.

Admission to the Orientation would start at 6:30 in the evening.

A few people in the dormitory started dressing up in the dormitory early on in the day.

Man Qingxuan spread the clothes over the entire bed and tried them back and forth in front of the mirror.

Bao Xiaofan, who was on her phone to watch the orientation event advertisement on BBS, said, “Ah ah ah ah! Oh my God, Wen Le, this orientation event of yours this time is simply awesome!”

Cheng Hui added, “Damn, you guys are really good at it! Did you guys also especially invite Yi Zean, that Internet celebrity who competed with Zhou Kao for the school hunk position?”

“We did, we invited all the influencers who have their own fanbase on BBS, but some people refused because they don’t have time,” Wen Le replied.

Man Qingxuan put down her clothes and said, “I think Yi Zean said that he is going to broadcast live tonight. F*ck, I’m a little excited. I think it will be viral!”

Wen Le said, “Precisely the publicity effect that he could bring, that’s why we invited him.”

Cheng Hui smiled saying, “For this Orientation event, Lele have also worked hard. My God, I can imagine the reaction of those boys after seeing you wear this cheongsam. But Lele, do you need bodyguards tonight? I’m very cheap. One hundred a night is enough.”

TN: Hahahaha I love Wen Le’s dorm mates!

    Wen Le refused, “No need.”

Wen Le picked up the high heels she was going to wear, examined the ten-centimetre stiletto, and said, “Have a look at this heel. It’s absolutely fatal, a one-shot kill.”

Cheng Hui gave a thumbs up.

Man Qingxuan covered her face and yelled, “Ah ah ah ah! I am so looking forward to it!”

Bao Xiaofan also fell on the bed clutching her chest, “I can’t wait for it either!”

Cheng Hui said, “All the girls around me during the past few days have been inquiring about what projects Zhou Kao was participating in. I have been afraid to visit the dormitory next door recently. They keep asking about Zhou Kao’s performance. They think Lele must have told me, saying that I knew but just didn’t want to tell them. I was so wronged, I obviously don’t know anything!”

Man Qingxuan said, “That’s right, Lele! You still refuse to tell us! There’s just a few more hours left! Won’t you tell us?”

Wen Le smiled and replied, “If I tell you, then there will be no surprises. Anyways it’s happening in just a few hours. Just wait a little longer for it.”

Bao Xiaofan said, “But we just really really reallllllyyyyyy want to know.”

    “Ah ah ah ah!”

Cheng Hui suddenly pointed to Sun Youmei’s bed and said, “She will definitely go. Two days ago, I saw that her phone was showing the advertising page for your Orientation event on BBS.”

Man Qingxuan said, “If she’s going then good for her, but she already has a boyfriend and still wants to go to the Orientation to socialize?”

Wen Le said, “Guess how many people despite not being single will show up at the Orientation networking tonight?”

Bao Xiaofan laughed out, “Definitely many.”

Cheng Hui pointed out, “Did you guys even grasp the main point”

“What’s the point?”, Man Qingxuan asked looking confused.

Wen Le elaborated, “You mean, it’s possible for her to bring Su Zhenzhen? In fact, I had expected it a long time ago, after all, we also invited the school next door. Su Zhenzhen is a student of the art school next door, so it is not surprising that she will come.”

The point was that she felt that Su Zhenzhen had not given up yet.

Cheng Hui inquired, “Do you have any interactions with Zhou Kao for today?”

Wen Le replied, “Not for the time being, but if the crowd is not ideal and big enough, maybe some special segment will be added. Who knows?”

Cheng Hui remarked, “That Su Zhenzhen pushed you down the last time and made you twist your ankle. I’m actually rather afraid that she will find trouble with you again. This time round, there will be so many people, it would be very embarrassing.”

“Actually, I am also prepared for this”, confessed Wen Le.

“And in fact,” Wen Le smiled shyly, “I have a black belt in taekwondo that I can use off-stage.”

At six o’clock in the evening, the venue had been almost fully decorated, and all the actors who had tasks in the evening were preparing to get into their outfits in the dressing room.

Wen Le had also been preparing for the opening ceremony of this Orientation for a long time.

In addition to asking nainai for her outfit for tonight, and in order to match the outfit, Wen Le especially went to do a bright red solid colour manicure in advance, and then stopped by the barber shop to style her hair into temporary big waves.

Other than the actors specially invited for this event, most of them in the dressing room were from the Student Union and the Social Council, and they had known each other for quite a long time. As the most dazzling one in the crowd, Wen Le attracted much attention even among the girls.

When Wen Le opened the small box containing her outfit, many girls gathered around. When they saw the outfit placed in the box, the girls couldn’t help exclaiming.

It was a retro black satin cheongsam. This cheongsam was different from the patterns that young people now seemed to find outdated. This cheongsam was very simple, with dark patterns of the same colour on the black satin surface, but it was unexpectedly beautiful.

They could almost imagine what a sensation Wen Le would cause when she appeared in the crowd wearing this cheongsam.

And most importantly, when Wen Le took the cheongsam out of the box, everyone found that the cheongsam had a split that was not low.

    This surprised everyone.

Most people who knew Wen Le knew that she had always been conservative and demure in her dressing. It seemed that no one had ever seen Wen Le wear clothes revealing anything above the knee. This was the first time Wen Le had worn such revealing clothes in public.

Of course, this level of revealing was also relative to Wen Le herself.

After all, other than the slit that opened up to the thigh, this cheongsam still followed her usual dressing style.

Several girls who knew Wen Le well smiled and said, “It seems that Wen Le is really going all out just for this event.”

Wen Le sighed and replied, “Who said I wasn’t going to?”

Everyone laughed when they heard her.

It could be said that everyone had a rough expectation and imagination of how Wen Le would look after putting on the cheongsam, due to already being armed with past experience. But the moment they saw Wen Le coming out of the simple changing room while wearing the cheongsam, the girls present still couldn’t help being jealous to the point where they were overflowing with envy.

There would definitely be no shortage of topics for tonight.

Wen Le sat in front of the makeup mirror and looked at herself. She took an eyebrow pencil to draw her eyebrows slightly thinner than she usually would and used a slightly darker eyeshadow to colour her eyelids. In line with tonight’s dress, she used an eyeliner pen to deepen the contour of her eyes near her lower eyelid, completing the retro eye makeup that made her eyes look more stylish and charming. For the lips, a lipstick from D brand, colour 999 was used to make her lips appear flaming red.

Next, she put on the pearl earrings and jade bangles sent by nainai, and replaced the comfortable flats with ten-centimetre high stilettos.

Wen Le looked at herself in the mirror and thought, Tsk Tsk, Wen Le, you’re really doing whatever it takes to create hype.

As soon as Wen Le finished getting ready, her senior sister from the same department came over, “Wen Le, something big happened!”

The female host of the opening ceremony of the orientation was unable to attend because of bad period cramps, but the event tonight could not be done without a host. What the senior sister meant was that she hoped that Wen Le would take on the role instead.

Wen Le took her senior sister’s hand and said, “Senior sister, is there really no one else? I haven’t really learned to host properly!”

The senior sister replied, “There are no other female hosts. There are other male hosts, but we can’t possibly have two male hosts at once. It doesn’t matter, Wen Le! Didn’t you host an event for your faculty once? It was said that the results were quite good.”

Wen Le thought to herself, That’s because I wrote the script, and had gone through it relentlessly till I memorised it like the back of my hand. I had even recorded myself to correct it countless times.

The senior sister continued to persuade, “It’s mainly because you don’t have a personal segment at the event today, Lele. The other girls who can take the role already have segments prepared, and they can’t get away. In fact, you only have to read according to the script. You don’t have to be too nervous.”

Since her senior sister had already explained in such detail, Wen Le didn’t refuse anymore. Deep down, she knew that although there were a lot of people with the Social Council and Student Union combined, the manpower was still really not enough for tonight.

Wen Le nodded in response, found the script and hid in a corner where there was no one to memorise as much as she could.

To be honest, Wen Le was under a lot of pressure to just go up the stage with hardly any preparation at all.

At 6:30 in the evening, the students of University A, who had been looking forward to it for a long time, entered the venue with much excitement and expectation.

Wen Le was nervously taking the time to memorize the script at this point in time.

The venue of the gymnasium originally had no stage. Thus, a stage was built temporarily. The backstage was actually just a simple space separated by the back of the LED screen. It could not be used for makeup and changing clothes at all. Therefore, both the girls’ and boys’ makeup were actually carried out in the empty office upstairs of the gymnasium.

At half past six, the noise on the first floor could already be heard in the upstairs office. This was undoubtedly good news for all the staff, because the louder the noise, the more people it meant, and the closer they were to the mission goal.

At 6:45, Wen Le and the male host went downstairs together, walked into the gymnasium through a small door obscured by the stage, and went directly backstage.

There were staff in the background who were busy calibrating equipment, and the seniors arranging the flow of the event.

Wen Le and the male host walked backstage and greeted the classmates they knew. Gazes swept towards Wen Le, and lingered on her for a long time.

“Wen Le, you are so beautiful tonight.”

Wen Le smiled when she heard the words. To be honest, because she was not very well prepared, Wen Le was still a little nervous so she couldn’t lift her spirits to entertain such common pleasantries. But she suddenly remembered something and pulled at her senior sister and said, “Senior sister, is my outfit suitable?”

Wen Le’s dress was not exactly prepared for hosting, but for the opening dance after the opening ceremony.

The senior sister smiled when she heard the words, “Why is it not suitable, it just needs to be beautiful. All the best, don’t be nervous!”

At seven o’clock in the evening, the opening ceremony officially began.

Wen Le took a deep breath, nodded to the male host, and the two walked on the stage one after the other.

The microphone had not yet switched on, but when Wen Le’s high heels stepped on the last step leading to the stage, the audience who were still laughing and joking in the audience gradually came to a stop.

The elegant pointed high heels landed gently on the stage covered with the red carpet, a pair of snow-white slender legs loomed under the black fabric, and her delicate and smooth skin appeared amazingly white against the black cheongsam, dazzling people with its beauty.

Almost everyone who saw this scene stopped thinking, their eyes following the beauty, refusing to leave.

It was Wen Le in a black satin cheongsam, paired with waist-length black hair, walking leisurely with such charm and beauty, like a mysterious oriental beauty who had travelled through time and space from a movie.

It was hard to describe how perfect the figure wrapped in the black cheongsam was, and how beautiful the female silhouette could be. It was probably beyond people’s imagination, and it would not be more moving than what Wen Le was showing at this moment.

Wen Le turned and stood still, looking at the audience with a smile on her face, which was confident and calm.

Tender eyes and flaming lips, black satin against snow-white skin, red nail polish and slender fingers, and jade bangles encircling the slender fair wrists.

There was nothing that wasn’t exquisite or beautiful about this woman. She alone on the stage was a visual feast itself.

Dressed in a cheongsam, she was a breathtaking beauty that enraptured everyone.

  • Film Empress’s Daily Face Slapping Chapter 76

    Slander

“Kiss on the cheek?” Xie Yan asked in a strange tone.

“Don’t worry. I’m just doing it for show, lightly touching it.” Afraid that he would be worried, Su Shen explained.

Hearing this, the person on the other end couldn’t help but ask, “You kiss him?”

Su Shen was taken aback and paused before saying somewhat guiltily, “It’s just for show.”

From where she was, they would be confined in the ancestral hall if they even took another glance at other men. But in the entertainment industry, let alone kissing on the cheek, a real bed scene with touching the chest was there. If it was any other large-scale scenes, Su Shen would definitely not accept the play. No matter how good a play was, it was not as important as her own bottom line, but it was not so difficult to accept just a kiss on the cheek. After all, there were no other plays with just a kiss on the cheek scene.

“When will you shoot this scene?” The man on the other end of the phone asked muffledly.

Hearing this, Su Shen thought for a bit before answering, “I’m not sure about the progress, but it should be around the beginning of the month.”

The filming by production crews was done according to the scenery, not according to the script, so Su Shen was not very clear about it.

At that, there was no sound from the other end of the line. After a long while, a muffled voice uttered, “Got it.”

Somehow, she felt a little guilty, so Su Shen said that she was going to shower and quickly hung up the call.

It was still raining outside. Su Shen drew the curtain closed, got her pajamas, and went to take a shower. She had to get up early tomorrow. Although she didn’t have many scenes, she could still go and see how the others acted. Although Ding Yan’s character was not subjected to talk about, her acting had nothing to be said. As a Best Actress in Film, the gold-bearing of it was much more solid than that of Fan Meng.

Work began at 9:00 am the next day, so Su Shen arrived on set at 7:00 am to get styled. The weather was not so cold now; it was just right to wear a qipao. The production crew was already setting the scene, and some of the extras were wandering outside. They were all passersby and just needed to walk back and forth. The hawkers who showed their faces would earn a hundred bucks per day, and the ones who didn’t have to show their faces would earn from sixty to eighty. Moreover, it doesn’t come with boxed lunches either. Even so, it still couldn’t stop everyone’s dream of becoming famous.

When she entered the dressing room, Xue Zhixin was eating hot and sour noodles, which was fresh among the female stars. It was just that the entire room smelled of sour bamboo shoots.

Seeing that she was staring at her, Xue Zhixin immediately put down her chopsticks and explained, “Let me tell you, people should enjoy the present. What’s wrong with getting fat? Isn’t the reason why we are working so hard to earn money so we can eat well? People these days are all trying their best to lose weight to the point of not even daring to eat a steamed bun. What’s the point of living then?”

    Su Shen: “…….”

Xiao Zhou, behind her, was biting the straw for her soymilk, and when she heard that, she glanced at her own thick waist and felt that for beauty, she was better off living a meaningless life.

“You’re right. I won’t deliberately refuse to eat either, I just eat less. If there’s something good, I will definitely eat it,” said Su Shen with a smile, and then sat down on the sofa while drinking her soymilk.

Her desire for good food was actually not that high. Sometimes, she wouldn’t even think about it even if she had to eat less. However, to be at Xue Zhixin’s mentality was rare. It couldn’t be helped, the industry had standards. Sometimes, one would lose a lot of resources when one was too chubby. It was no wonder that those female artists would only eat cabbage and carrots.

“You’re still young so this is a must.” Xue Zhixin ate a mouthful of hot and sour noodles and said while chewing, “Look at you—young, beautiful, and have a fab figure, and even a great boyfriend. You’re at the peak of life.”

She didn’t expect that she also knew about her relationship with Xie Yan. Feeling a little embarrassed, Su Shen looked down and continued reading her script without saying anything.

Xue Zhixin was an outgoing person and became more and more enthusiastic the more she went on. Looking at her with gossipy eyes and with oil covered all over her mouth, she said, “I heard that Xie Yan doesn’t play around and never opens the door whenever an actress would knock on his door in the middle of the night. How did you get him? Did you chase him?”

In this industry, there were too many unknowns trying to climb into famous celebrities’ beds. Xue Zhixin didn’t think Su Shen was the type to curry favors with others. It could be seen from details that were nurtured from childhood. But if so, why did Xie Yan suddenly fall in love with this girl among all of the beautiful women he has seen?

If it was someone else, Su Shen would certainly ignore them. But Xue Zhixin was just straightforward and frank, and it was not like something she couldn’t say.

After pondering for a while, she cleared her throat and said, “He pursued me.”

Thinking about it now, Xie Yan had put in a lot of effort in pursuing her, to actually go and film an idol drama with her.

“Ah? How did he pursue you then?” Xue Zhixin was so gossipy that she stopped eating her noodles. This was exclusive news, and also one of the big mysteries in the entertainment industry.

“I… it’s actually nothing much, nothing special. Don’t think too much.” Su Shen laughed awkwardly. She didn’t want to know, but after thinking about it, she realized that Xie Yan seemed to have hinted to her a long time ago, but she didn’t dare to think that way.

“AH! Su jie, look!” Xiao Zhou suddenly leaned over and handed the phone to her.

Su Shen put down her script, took over her phone, and looked. But when she saw the contents on the screen, she couldn’t help frowning.

    Entertainment Gossip Auntie Q&A:

    1. Auntie, auntie, I want to ask, with Su Shen’s fame, it’s not enough to be in Director Li’s film, right? Why are her resources so good? Is it true that she snatched Tang Xuan’s role?

    Answer:

Su Shen’s sister is the VP of Tangerine TV, so that’s why she’s a leading actress as soon as she debuted. However, her sister isn’t able to give her many too good of opportunities either. She’s rather ambitious. Before, she latched onto Jiang Yin and even chased after Xie Yan. The reason why she can be in Director Li’s film is because she has an indescribable relationship with a senior executive producer. You know what I mean. Originally, this film had decided on Tang Xuan, but it was changed because of the senior executive. Director Li isn’t very satisfied with her, but he has no choice.

This was a gossip account that had over five million followers and often posted explosives on some matters. Some were true, some were false. The ones that were true were accurate. The ones that were false, others wouldn’t know. However, it was still rather famous among the gossip accounts. With this sudden explosive, some other news sites began to reshare it. This was from last night and wasn’t anything big at that time. It was still at the bottom of Hot Search after a night of it simmering, but the internet was already crazily cursing at her.

Netizen A: This kind of woman who climbs into bed with others, I suspect that her Best Newcomer award came from sleeping. [vomit]

Netizen B: Poor Tang Xuan; this kind of woman who climbs in bed with others and has poor acting is simply a tumor in the entertainment industry. [vomit]

Netizen C: I believe in Su Su. Can news from a gossip account even be believable? Those who said my Su Su’s acting is poor, please go and see the optometrist. [smiley face]

Netizen D: So repulsive. I used to think she was quite pretty, but I didn’t expect her to be so depraved.

Netizen E: Are there no costs to spreading a rumor now? At the award ceremony, Tang Xuan personally said that she admired Su Su a lot. If she really stole her role, who would even say that? Gossip dog, karma will hit you back!

Netizen F: Too scary. Miss Su, please stay away from my Xie Yan in the future. He probably hasn’t seen your true colors yet. [smiley face]

Netizen G: I think Xie Yan and Su Shen’s relationship is pretty good. Didn’t they joke with each other before? Besides, if they were not on good terms, Xie Yan wouldn’t act with her, no?

Netizen H: Is it a publicity stunt? After all, Miss Su’s new drama is about to air. Emmmm

Netizen I: Is the OP above stupid? Would you hype like this?

Su Shen didn’t know who was trying to destroy her behind her back again, but it was clear that they had spent a lot of money. With so many water armies and the chain of follow-up reposts, this degree of publicity was usually done for promotions of a play. Moreover, the cost was not low, at least two million. The person behind this was really willing to spend a fortune on it.

“Su jie, do you want to give Liu jie a call?” Xiao Zhou asked worriedly.

This kind of news had to be clarified in time or it would easily damage her reputation with the public. Even if it was clarified later, it would still leave a bad impression.

Su Shen returned the phone to her, but before she could call Liu jie, her sister’s call came in.

Glancing at Xue Zhixin, Su Shen came to the corridor outside with her phone. Everyone was busy on set and rarely had time to follow the news online closely.

As soon as the call connected, Su Ruan’s somber voice immediately came through from the other end, “Shen Shen, what’s going on?”

It was not a big deal if it was just a small-scale rumor, but when it came to reputation, her sister placed more importance on it than she did. Especially if her parents saw it, Su Shen couldn’t imagine the consequences.

After a pause, she said softly, “This is an accident. I’ll deal with it as soon as possible.”

“I know that the entertainment industry is messy, but you also know that mom and dad had always disagreed with you entering. If they see this, how angry will they be? It’s clear that someone’s trying to destroy you. Do you think it will be so easy to calm the aftermath later?” Su Ruan earnestly explained.

Hearing this, Su Shen also had a headache. She could wait for the company to deal with it, but her parents would not give her time to wait.

“I’m not putting pressure on you. I know you want to be independent, but at this time, I have to help you. I’ll contact Liu Min and take down the headline on Hot Search before it gets bigger. As for the gossip account, if she doesn’t agree to delete the post, I will have the company’s legal team sue her. However, the person who wants to slander you won’t stop so easily. You have to solve this matter from the root. For example, ask the production team to clarify or have Tang Xuan put in a word for you. Understand?”

Hearing the words from the other end of the line, Su Shen also knew the seriousness of the matter, but even if the production team was to clarify right now, those netizens wouldn’t believe it. They would only think that it was a facade that she bought off the production team.

“I’ll think it over. Thanks, sis,” said Su Shen softly.

At that, the person on the other end of the line also softened her tone a little. “I know you’re all grown up now, but you must take care of yourself, and don’t let mom and dad worry about you. Also, you can’t hide your relationship with Xie Yan from them always. When are you going to tell them?”

  • Film Empress’s Daily Face Slapping Chapter 75

    Going On Set

Ding Yan was considered to be one of the A-list actresses in the industry. Although she was only in her 30s, she had already won a Best Actress in Film and acted in various genres. From the mouths of those famous directors, she was very expressive. Although her looks were not stunning, she had a little bit of a baby face and did not appear old. It was not surprising that she was the female lead of this film. In the eyes of the public, she had a great reputation but was unlikeable in the industry. She was well-known to be troublesome and hard to work with. However, only her image fit the female lead of this play among the actresses with acting skills in the industry, so there was no other choice.

“I know what to do. By the way, can you discuss with the producer about that drama I told you about before and see if some details in the script can be changed?” Su Shen suddenly remembered.

Hearing this, Liu jie just nodded slightly. “I’ll go and negotiate with them, but there are also many people fighting for this role. I heard that the producer is set on actresses like Tang Xuan, but it seems that the director wants you, hence why the producer invited you. However, we don’t know what will happen in the end. I’ll properly negotiate with them about these matters.”

At that, Su Shen just uttered an “en,” and didn’t say anything else.

When it was about time to board, they started to get in line. At this time, there would be paparazzi waiting at the airport and some professional fan photographers. Su Shen didn’t know if she had been photographed or not, so she wore a cap for as long as she could.

It was already noon when they arrived at Jiang City. The opening ceremony would be held at 1:00 pm, so Su Shen rushed to the filming site of the production crew. This filming location was all reminiscent of the Republic of China era, with many plays about the war of resistance against Japan filmed here. There were a large number of extras running back and forth here all year long for a dozen dollars a day. It was more for meeting a scout which could enable them to get their foot into the entertainment industry. After all, everyone thought that this industry was rich and glamorous. Who didn’t want to be the focus of attention? Unfortunately, most of those with no connections in this industry could only be subjected to small roles. If Su Shen didn’t have her sister’s help, she would be no different from these people.

The set was closed off from the public, so those reporters couldn’t get in. It was drizzling today; the bluestone alley was wet. The entire film site was enshrouded by rain. Apart from being a film site, it was also a nice tourist spot.

Production crews were superstitious and just like ancient Peking opera, they would worship God before going on stage every time. The time and position of the opening ceremony had already been determined, and it needed to be on time. However, it was already 12:55 pm, and Ding Yan still hadn’t arrived. The director and producer had a long face. They had heard that she liked to be a diva, but it was another thing to see it with their own eyes.

It was not until the 59-minute mark that a woman in red athleisure wear came in a hurry, followed by several assistants. Perhaps knowing that she was late, she apologized to the producer with a smile. Although the producer was certainly not happy on the inside, the other party had already apologized so they said nothing and asked everyone to quickly go burn incense.

It was natural that Ding Yan would have her own dressing room. Su Shen had to share one with another actress, with only one makeup artist inside. Originally, there were two makeup artists, but Ding Yan’s side said that there were not enough hands on their end, so they simply took one with them. It was not a big deal, so Su Shen didn’t want to say anything more, but the other actress was not so good-tempered.

“Does she think she has a lot of face? To have three makeup artists surrounding her and boast that she has a natural face, does she think that others don’t know she didn’t get shots?” With a cigarette in her mouth, Xue Zhixin crossed her legs and glanced at Su Shen, who was reading her script over there, from the corner of her eye. “Su Shen, let me tell you, this kind of person likes to win an inch and wants a foot. Today, she took your makeup artist, Tomorrow, she’ll change your lines!”

Su Shen, who was in the midst of reading her script, just smiled and looked up. “You think too much. She’s not at the level of being able to change lines.”

For this kind of play, the director had the most authority, and even the producer would have difficulty intervening. Not mentioning whether Ding Yan had the power to change the lines and even if she did, she was introduced by He Hua. For a favor, the director wouldn’t easily change her scenes.

“It’s hard to say. She’s famous for overwhelming actresses of the same cast., but contrarily, she likes to work with those xiao xian rous. I heard that she often has fun with those male models in private, and they even have a group—very open-minded at that. Last month, wasn’t there a scandal that Li Jin and a male model were swimming together abroad? That model was introduced by Ding Yan. She especially likes to do these pimp acts to expand her social circle. Otherwise, how else did she have so many good opportunities?!” Xue Zhixin inhaled smoke and slowly blew out a smoke ring. It was obvious that she was a veteran smoker.

The makeup artist was still doing her hair. Hearing this, Su Shen just smiled and said nothing. This industry has always been dirty. Men had needs, and so did women. For those rather old female artists, who didn’t like young and handsome men? It was just that they concealed it very well. In actuality, the life behind the glamour was even more dark than ordinary people.

Xue Zhixin was a B-list small-screen actress, and her acting was not bad, but her popularity was lukewarm. Perhaps it had something to do with her frankness. EQ could solve so many matters in the entertainment industry.

The male and female leads had scenes in the afternoon, and it was not until evening that Su Shen had a scene. Moreover, it was a scene in the middle of the plot. Director Li was very strict and would explain some details in detail.

“This cigarette is rather light. Remember to exhale the smoke ring after the male lead finished his first sentence. When the smoke ring is half dispersed, you can then speak.”

Director Li sat in front of the monitor and handed her a rarely-seen pack of cigarettes. Taking it over and having a look, Su Shen could tell that it seemed to be cigarettes produced in the Republic of China era. In terms of details, the production crew did a great job at it.

“Zheng Tong, you have to pat off the rain from your body when you come in later. Remember to do that before going in to see Su Shen. Don’t look at her before patting off the rain.” Director Li looked conscientiously at Zheng Tong on the side.

The retro building had people coming and going. The lighting crew had been adjusting the light over there, and the narrow space inside was a little congested. Ding Yan, who was still wearing her costume, was leaning against the chaise in the corner, drinking coffee leisurely, glancing over where the director was from time to time.

The stylist had been helping Zheng Tong straighten the collar of his leather jacket. Hearing the director’s words, he just nodded while looking at the script.

With the box of cigarettes in her hand, Su Shen came to the window and sat down to get a sense of the character. The window was open, and it was drizzling outside. In the dark night, the film site was boiling with noise, and not far away, there was the sound of gunfire from another crew.

She was wearing a red qipao with a slit to her thigh. But because of her shawl, only a portion of snow-white skin to her knee was exposed. Under the dim light, her exquisite side profile with heavy makeup could be seen, and her red lips were slightly pursed. Her jade-like fingers slowly tore the cigarette box.

Satisfied with the state of her getting into character, the director held the loudspeaker and shouted, “All of you, get out of frame. Cameraman, go over there. Yes, okay, get ready, action!”

Holding the camera, the cameraman swept a shot of the woman in front of the window, and then landed at the door. Just at this moment, the wooden door was pushed open, and a tall man walked in hurriedly. He closed the door, and then patted the raindrops off his shoulders. Then, his gaze slowly fell on the woman in front of the window.

When the camera came over again, Su Shen took out a cigarette from the cigarette box, lit it, and slowly put it into her mouth for a smoke. Her thick curled eyelashes slightly trembled, as if she was enjoying the flavor of the cigarette.

Zheng Tong came a few steps forward, leaving two meters away from her. After a pause, he asked seriously, “Why didn’t you kill him? Do you know how rare this chance is?”

As his words fell, Su Shen slightly parted her lips and slowly blew out a smoke ring. She looked down slightly and said, “I sometimes think, I have helped you so much, but you seem to have given me nothing.”

Her languid voice held a hint of indifferentness. Zheng Tong stared at the woman by the window, pursed his lips, and suddenly stepped forward. “If you wanted something, you wouldn’t have waited until today to ask me.”

“So, you’re confident that I will stupidly be used by you?” Su Shen glanced from the corner of her eye, and with a cigarette in her hand, she smiled sarcastically. “Do you know how many people die every day in Shanghai? I wonder if I will be one of them one day.”

The light in the small building was not very bright, but the exquisite looks of the woman did not decrease the slightest bit. There was no expression on her face, but that pair of slightly smiling eyes made people feel as if they went through the ups and downs of life.

The director in front of the monitor frowned tightly and stared at the screen. Even Ding Yan, who was drinking coffee in the corner, looked at this scene with a half smile. Interesting. So young, but schemes well. Else, she wouldn’t have been able to win over Xie Yan.

“You’re not the kind of person who’s greedy for life and afraid of death.” Zheng Tong stared at her and then put on his hat before turning around and leaving.

Su Shen snickered and took a deep breath of smoke. “How do you know that I’m not greedy for life and afraid of death?”

Seeing that he paused his steps, Su Shen stepped two steps forward on her high heels and glanced at him with a cigarette in her hand. “Let me tell you, not everyone is as righteous as you. You’re asking me to help you, but why should I? What have you given me?”

    “You…”

“Do you want to say that it’s my duty to sacrifice a bit for the poor, innocent common people?” Su Shen snickered and took another deep breath of smoke before walking over to the window slowly. “I help the poor common people, but who helped me when I was suffering?”

“My parents were bombed when I was twelve years old. I narrowly escaped and had to follow a group of beggars wandering around the streets. Who helped me at that time?” Su Shen took a deep breath and said in a cold voice, “The winters in Shanghai are so cold. I remember one year, I was almost frozen to death. Eventually, a woman threw a copper coin in front of me. She looked at me with nothing but disdain, but I was so happy. But…”

She put her hand on the edge of the window, and her red nails slowly clasped the edge. “It was snatched away, and those people laughed at me. Do you know how desperate I was? But, who came to save me at that time?!”

Zheng Tong said nothing and just looked at the woman, who was caught up in her memories, with a perplexed expression.

“Until one day, a human trafficker took me home. She had me washed up and fed me delicious food. I thought that there were still good people in the world. However, it was not until she sold me into…” Su Shen suddenly paused and turned around, staring at him fervently. “At that time, who came to save me?”

    “Cut!”

When the director’s word fell, Su Shen seemed to still not have gotten out of character, so she stood in front of the window and took a few deep breaths before she came to the monitor with a smile.

“Not bad. But Su Shen, you can speak slowly. This is not a memory, but simply a statement. You’ve already reconciled to life, so you have to tell it as if it was someone else’s story.” The director looked at her seriously.

Hearing that, Su Shen nodded and began to reflect on the script.

Although she had seen Zheng Tong at Jiang Liankai’s wedding before, Su Shen wasn’t very familiar with him. Contrarily, Xie Yan and he were rivals in a sense because they were about the same age. Fans liked to compare Xie Yan and him the most, and then turn it into a catfight. From looks to acting, the two of them were like fire and water. However, the relationship between Xie Yan and Zheng Tong was not that bad, but they weren’t close either.

Later, there was another scene that was NG before it could pass. When she returned to the hotel, it was already 10:00 pm. As soon as she entered her room, her phone rang.

Seeing that it was Xie Yan, Su Shen somehow didn’t want to answer it. But since she wasn’t there anyways, there was nothing she was afraid of.

As soon as the call connected, a deep and mellow voice came from the other end. “Finished with work?”

Su Shen went to get a glass of water and sat down on the sofa. “I just got back to the hotel. What’s wrong?”

Xie Yan was not the type to talk endlessly on the phone, so there must be something wrong with his sudden call.

“Need me to come see you?” He said calmly.

Hearing this, Su Shen felt a little embarrassed. They just separated today…

After taking a sip of water, she sat cross-legged on the sofa, holding her phone and saying softly, “Aren’t you being closely followed by the paparazzi? If it’s troublesome, it’s alright. I’m fine.”

At that, there was a pause on the other end before a deep voice sounded, “En. Are there any kiss scenes in this film?”

The scale of the plot in literary films was bigger than in commercial movies. Hearing what Xie Yan just said, Su Shen felt somewhat guilty before saying slowly, “I… I seem… to have a kiss on the cheek scene.”

    Moving Up the Date

It would’ve been better if he hadn’t told her. As soon as he said that, Su Shen was ill at ease and fell into a daze, feeling ashamed inexplicably.

“Come, come, come, black chicken soup, good for replenishing blood.”

The auntie came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of hot soup with a smile. Su Shen didn’t dare look at her as blood surged to her face. She could only look down and continue biting the sandwich in her hands.

“Are you free at the beginning of next month?” asked Xie Yan suddenly.

Su Shen paused before she turned to look at him. “What’s wrong?”

Every time Xie Yan asked her if she was free, there was always something about to happen.

“Nothing. My parents are coming back around that time, and I want to bring you to meet them, that’s all.” Xie Yan drank his milk calmly.

Hearing this, Su Shen tensed up. She didn’t know what to do when meeting the parents yet.

Seeing her in shock, Xie Yan just caressed her head with a smile. “It’s okay, but there are some things that should be moved up the date.”

    Su Shen: “……”

She was stunned and didn’t understand what he meant.

Glancing at her stomach, Xie Yan said seriously, “There may be my daughter inside already. We have to be responsible for the child. It’s better to get married earlier.”

    Su Shen: “……”

She parted her mouth slightly and came back to her senses. She then turned around awkwardly and glanced at him. “Who do you think you are? Capable enough to have a daughter in one night?”

Su Shen hadn’t thought about birth control. However, if she really was pregnant, she would definitely give birth to it. Her career was not as important as her child.

Hearing this, Xie Yan leaned in and squinted. “Do you know what you are saying?”

At that, Su Shen was taken aback. When she faced his dangerous of an expression, she immediately blushed and explained in a hurry. “I… I didn’t mean that. I’m just saying that the odds are too small, too small!”

“Too late.” He took the newspaper from the table and slowly opened it with a long face, appearing particularly scary.

Su Shen subconsciously massaged her lower back. Last night, Xie Yan had restrained himself a lot already. She couldn’t imagine what it would be like if he was angry…

“I didn’t mean that. If you’re like this, how would I dare stay at your place?” She blinked, inexplicably afraid.

Glancing from the corner of his eye, Xie Yan suddenly put down the newspaper in his hand and propped one arm on the table. He then stared at her and said, “You clearly said I’m not capable. Shouldn’t I prove myself?”

His words were so frank that Su Shen could not bear it, so she looked down, away from him. “I didn’t say that you’re not capable…”

“But, I think that’s what you mean. I’m angry, what are you gonna do?” He arched a brow, his voice somber.

Unable to stand his gaze, Su Shen got up and quickly ran to the sofa and sat down, ignoring him.

Looking at her petite figure, Xie Yan smiled helplessly and continued to read the newspaper.

Lying on the sofa, Su Shen massaged her lower back while pondering when she should tell her parents about her relationship with Xie Yan. It wasn’t a solution to delay it further either.

It was her dad’s birthday on the 25th. She could tell them beforehand and then bring Xie Yan over on the day of. Her sister would definitely speak for her. Since Xie Yan was so principled, her mom would probably agree, right?

After pondering for a while, she sent a message to Xiao Zhou, asking her to go to her condo and bring her script over. She had to go on set tomorrow, so she had to prepare herself in advance. Xie Yan was also here, and he could even go over the script with her.

    ……

It was the first time Xiao Zhou came to her idol’s house and everything seemed like a dream. But what made it even more dreamy was that she seemed to have discovered a great secret.

Yesterday, her Su jie seemed to have slept with her idol!

When she rang the doorbell after taking a deep breath, the door opened after about ten seconds. It was opened by an amicable auntie. Xiao Zhou was taken aback but immediately nodded with a smile. “Hi Auntie, I’m here to deliver something.”

“Quickly come in, Shen Shen’s inside.” The auntie smiled and then found a pair of slippers for her.

Xiao Zhou was about to say that she wouldn’t go in, but with an ulterior motive, she wanted to see what her idol’s house looked like, so she changed her shoes and entered with the script.

The living room was large, with a simple interior design illuminated by a warm white light chandelier. On the blue European-style sofa, a girl in a knee-length nightgown leaned against the sofa with her fair legs on the man’s legs covered by a throw in case of being cold. The man was reading a book, and it seemed that he said something which angered the girl, causing her to kick him. However, the man just smiled helplessly with a look of pampering.

Xiao Zhou took a deep breath and clutched her heart, walking over with the script in her trembling hands. “Su jie, here’s the script.”

Seeing Xiao Zhou, Su Shen immediately reached out to take the document folder. As she opened it and took out the script, she asked, “Did you see any paparazzi outside when you came in just now?”

At that, Xiao Zhou shook her head blankly. She really didn’t pay much attention.

“Nevermind. If they took a photo, then so be it,” said Su Shen as she continued to look at the script.

The usual paparazzi most likely would not recognize her assistant unless they had especially followed her.

After a pause, Xiao Zhou glanced at Xie Yan at the side. Her idol really had no bad angles. After deglutition, she looked at Su Shen and said, “Su jie, I’ll go back if there’s nothing else then.”

“En,” uttered Su Shen softly while looking through the script. She still couldn’t find that feeling, there was still something missing.

“Xie Yan, do you think I should show a little bit of affection for the male lead?” Su Shen took the script and crawled over, sitting next to him and passing the script over.

The plot didn’t write that the supporting female lead liked the male lead, but from a certain point of view, the supporting female lead did like the male lead, at least in Su Shen’s opinion.

Taking over her script, Xie Yan skimmed through it, and his eyes fell on the last scene. “What kind of person do you think she is?”

At that, Su Shen pondered for a while before saying earnestly with her legs crisscrossing, “I think she has low self-esteem, but she’s used to covering her heart with indifference. Even when facing the male lead, she didn’t show that she liked him. But in the end, she said that no one would remember her. This is the sorrow and pain of being a nobody. The male lead is an envoy of justice while she’s just an ordinary person that fell into the mud. However, she’s able to help the male lead a lot. On one hand, she wants to prove that there’s value to her existence, and on the other hand is because of the male lead.

“Then, do you think this kind of person will show her true feelings?” Xie Yan glanced at her.

Su Shen frowned and pondered earnestly for a bit. “I also know that the supporting female lead won’t show it easily, but I’m wondering how she should look when facing the male lead.”

It was definitely not a good idea to express her like so directly or to occasionally show a little bit. She wanted to express this feeling in a natural, organic kind of way.

“Putting aside the factor that the supporting female lead likes the male lead, how do you think she should appear?” Xie Yan looked at her conscientiously.

At that, Su Shen suddenly thought of something and nodded. “Right. Admire. If she admired him too much, then the audience will surely notice that her feelings for the male lead are not normal.”

She didn’t have to show her admiration so explicitly to the audience. It could be reflected in a glance, so it wouldn’t feel too abrupt. The audience would certainly perceive some traces of it.

“It’s just a play. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.” Xie Yan wrapped his arm around her shoulder, holding her in his arms, and planted a kiss on her.

Su Shen blinked and turned away from him. “I’m not under any pressure. Pay attention to your image. Wang ayi* is looking over there.”

ayi – means auntie; a way of addressing an older lady who could be a relative, family friend, or a helper

Su Shen didn’t dare to look up at Wang ayi. Despite this, she still felt embarrassed. It was just that Xie Yan couldn’t keep his hands off of her.

“What are you afraid of? Wang ayi knows about everything.” With his arms around her waist, Xie Yan lowered his head and wanted to kiss her again.

Su Shen turned away and pursed her lips, avoiding his kiss.

Knowing that she had misspoken during the day, Su Shen had a clever idea at night. After taking the key to the guest room from Wang ayi, she sneaked into the guest room very early and locked the door. She then blocked the door with a chair before she went to bed.

Although she didn’t know much about relations between men and women, she knew that Xie Yan would definitely not let her go, so she decided to wait until he forgot that sentence.

The next day, she had already asked her chauffeur to drive her to the airport, but Xie Yan insisted on sending her, so she had no choice but to sneak out of the mansion from the back door in case of being photographed by the paparazzi.

The filming location this time was in Jiang City. Although it wasn’t very far, it would still be a two-hour flight. When Su Shen arrived at the airport, Liu jie called her and told her that she was waiting in the lounge.

Looking at the busy road outside, Su Shen looked at the man beside her and said softly, “I’m going then.”

Seeing that she was about to open the door, Xie Yan suddenly leaned over and pressed her against the seat. His eyes fervent. “Why did you lock the door yesterday?”

    Su Shen: “…….”

    “I…….”

“Don’t think that I have forgotten that sentence.” He smiled and said seriously, “I will remember it always.”

    Su Shen: “…….”

Just at this moment, her phone suddenly rang. Seeing that it was Liu jie, Su Shen hurriedly opened the door and got out of the car as if she found her lifesaver. She then waved to the person in the car, put on her mask, and entered the airport without looking back.

So petty. Su Shen didn’t know that Xie Yan was such a petty person. As expected, a man’s heart was like a needle at the bottom of the sea.

When she arrived at the lounge, Su Shen soon found Liu jie and Xiao Zhou. Seeing her coming, Liu jie glanced outside the airport and asked, “Has he left?”

Knowing what she meant, Su Shen nodded slightly and then sat down to take off her mask.

There were people coming and going in the lounge. Liu jie sat beside her and after looking around, she then said conscientiously, “I don’t want to meddle in your private affairs as long as you guys are not photographed. This film will be very beneficial for you to enter the mainstream film market. By no means, you can’t make a mistake. The female lead this time is Ding Yan, who’s famous for overwhelming actresses in the same cast. Moreover, she’s close with Cen Qing. You have to be careful about all matters.”

    Fulfilling One’s Wish

“I…” Su Shen held the doorknob tightly and frowned. Ultimately, she slowly opened the door to a small crack and quickly reached out her hand. “Give it to me!”

Through the crack, he could see the mist in the bathroom. The arm she reached out was fair and slender, with drops of water on it. Some even slid to her wrist, leaving a winding watermark on her fair and tender arm.

“Do you need my help?” He asked in a hoarse voice.

The woman inside neared the door, and her face was as red as an apple. She waved her fair arm outside and said, “Just give me the towel!

Looking at the towel in his hand, Xie Yan handed it to her. The latter immediately grabbed the towel and withdrew her hand, slamming the bathroom door with a BANG.

Looking at the shut tight bathroom door, Xie Yan chuckled and returned to his room.

When Su Shen came out, it was already 1:00 am. There was everything needed in the guest room, but it was rare for Xie Yan to have time. She wanted to ask him about the script from before, but at the thought of what just happened, she was a little embarrassed. After hesitating for a long while, she ultimately walked towards his room.

When she came to Xie Yan’s room, he was sitting at his desk and looking at his laptop. After walking over, Su Shen sat down in front of the desk. “I received a script, and I think it’s pretty good, but the character’s a little risky. Can you help look over it?”

As soon as he looked up, he saw the woman in front of him with her fair complexion reaching out to fiddle with the laptop on his face. There was almost no blemish on her bare face, but she was a little pale from not resting well.

“Look, is the character of this female lead a little unlikeable?” Su Shen pushed the laptop over.

Taking the laptop, Xie Yan looked at the words on the screen without changing his expression, and slowly scrolled down the page. Sitting across from him, Su Shen felt a little sleepy, but she still pulled herself together and continued to wait for him to finish reading.

After an unknown amount of time passed and just when Su Shen was about to fall asleep on the desk, the person across from her finally moved the laptop over.

“A drama ultimately is for the public to watch, even if it is close to reality. If the public doesn’t like it, it won’t become a word-of-mouth drama.” Xie Yan tapped the desk twice with his pen and said softly, “There’s no need to change the character, but the plot is flawed. The last scene can be changed to the Eldest Prince entering the palace to have an audience with the Emperor and encounter the female lead in the Imperial Garden as the ending, which will give the public an illusion that they can still be together.”

At that, Su Shen nodded earnestly. “I’ll talk to Liu jie and see if she can negotiate with the production team.”

As she said that, she moved to close the laptop and smiled, “There are too many people who like the female lead. Does this need to be changed?”

“It’s human nature to like someone because of their beauty, This is just a reality.” As he said this, Xie Yan leaned over and stared at her. “Besides, it goes without saying that you’re beautiful.”

As their eyes met, Su Shen’s heart couldn’t help pounding faster again. She immediately closed the laptop and didn’t know that Xie Yan could say sweet nothings.

“I’m going back to sleep. You should also go to bed early.” She got up, glanced at Xie Yan, and walked to the door as she rubbed her neck.

Seeing her passing by, Xie Yan immediately grabbed her fair wrist, shocking Su Shen for a bit.

He got up and wrapped his arms around her slender waist; his eyes fervent. “I want to sleep with you.”

Seeing this kind of expression again, Su Shen held her breath subconsciously and blinked her big eyes, looking away from him. “D-didn’t you… not want to sleep with me last time?”

Last time at the hotel, he went ahead and slept on the sofa alone.

“That was last time.” He looked down and kissed her bright red lips fervently, plundering everything from her in a hurry. The desire that he had endured for a long time finally exploded.

“Mhm…” With her eyes wide open, Su Shen clasped his shoulder weakly. Believing in Xie Yan, she closed her eyes and tried to bear the sudden storm.

Her waist was so slender as if it could be snapped with just a little force. Unknowingly, he had already pressed her on the desk, scattering the pen and script onto the floor.

He gently kissed her fair and slender neck, nibbling it a few times. He then nibbled all the way down as if he got addicted to it. When he came to that fair collarbones, he felt her body tense. When he looked up, he saw her tightly closing her eyes and her eyelashes trembling.

The light above her head seemed to become dim. It was already very dark outside. After taking a deep breath, Xie Yan buried his head into her neck and mumbled, “I just want to sleep with you. I won’t do anything else.”

If it was someone else, this was definitely a lie to trick a three-year-old. But if this person was Xie Yan, Su Shen knew that he would definitely not do anything else.

Opening her eyes slightly, she saw the sweat on his forehead from enduring. Su Shen blinked and suddenly wrapped her arms around his neck, blushing. “If… you did do something… I won’t blame you.”

Her voice was as light as the sound of a fly flying, but in Xie Yan’s ears, it was like a clap of thunder. He put his forehead against hers and swallowed. “Are you sure?”

He couldn’t believe what she had just said.

Su Shen closed her eyes and said nothing. Her pale face flushed. At this moment, her consent was the most powerful stimulant in Xie Yan’s eyes.

He princess-carried her and placed her on the soft big bed in a few steps. Looking at her nervous and tense face, Xie Yan kissed her on the lips and said in a hoarse voice, “I’ll be gentle.”

He then directly plundered her red lips, pried her teeth open, and wandered deep into her mouth. His fiery hot hand slowly wandered up along her smooth thigh, and the light above them blurred the lines between the two of them.

Su Shen felt that this was the boldest decision she had ever made in this life. She didn’t want to see Xie Yan endure it anymore.

When that sharp pain pierced straight into her mind, she couldn’t help but bite his shoulder. Her fingernails dug deeply into his arms, leaving a mark. The other party seemed not to notice it at all, allowing the dim light to envelop the two of them.

    ……

When the dazzling sunlight came in through the thick curtains, Su Shen subconsciously reached for her phone on the nightstand, but what she touched was a warm wall.

Feeling a little sore in her arm, she couldn’t help but open her eyes slightly, looking at the bright and beautiful scenery outside the window. Turning around, she saw a familiar figure, and the other party’s naked upper body, with distinct muscles.

Su Shen blinked and the memories from last night came pouring in. She didn’t make any noise and just bit her lower lip, pulling up the blanket to cover her face.

“What should I do if you touch me so early in the morning?” He held her in his arms and pulled the blanket down with a smile.

Su Shen covered her face with her hands and her face flushed. “I… I didn’t touch you anywhere. Don’t wrong a good person.”

Her voice was hoarse. The warm beam of light shone on her skin full of hickeys, which only made Xie Yan swallow. His big hand slipped into the blanket and did whatever he pleased on her smooth skin.

“You clearly touched me just now. How can you not admit it?” He said in a hoarse voice and kissed her on the lips. His fiery hot kiss trailed down to her collarbone.

Just as Su Shen was about to say something blushingly, the phone on the desk suddenly buzzed.

This was Xie Yan’s phone. With this understanding, Su Shen immediately patted the head on her chest and said, “Go and pick up the phone.”

The phone on the desk was still buzzing. With a darkened face, Xie Yan got out of bed and went to pick up the phone on the desk. Immediately, He Hua’s voice came through, “Xie Yan, why aren’t you answering the phone? If I have something important to tell you, I’ll be anxious to death!”

“What’s the matter?” He asked in an irked tone.

The person on the other end paused before asking doubtfully, “What’s wrong with you? Who angered you again?”

Xie Yan would never show that he was upset.

“If you have something, say it.” He put his phone on speaker and threw it onto the bed. Meanwhile, he picked up his T-shirt on the side and put it on.

Lying in bed, Su Shen stared blankly at the phone on the bed.

“What’s the matter? You should know it better than I do. Don’t post whatever on Weibo, and don’t go out lately. There are already paparazzi waiting outside. Tell Su Shen to be careful too. Also, is she at your house right now? If so, remember to close the curtains, and don’t make trouble for me again!”

Hearing the voice from the phone, Su Shen could not help but bury her head into the blanket shyly. Everything felt so unreal to her. She and Xie Yan actually did it…

Picking up his phone, Xie Yan said seriously, “Don’t call me in the morning and evening henceforth.”

After saying that, he hung up the call. Looking at the woman still buried in the blanket, he couldn’t help but pull the blanket away from her and planted a kiss on her cheek. “Rest a bit more. I’ll have Auntie make soup for you.”

Su Shen didn’t say anything. After watching him leave, she then went to the nightstand to get her phone. But as soon as she moved, she felt all of her bones seemingly cracking.

She massaged her lower back while she opened her phone, noticing that the articles had been published online, with many of them covering her winning an award. Naturally, the company had something to do with it too.

However, she found that an hour ago, Xie Yan had made a Weibo post, which was a photo of the sun outside the window!

Xie Yan V: The weather’s not bad today. [photo]

Netizen A: From the look of it, this was taken from the bed.

Netizen B: Don’t be like this. I’m panicking. [joy]

Netizen C: My imagination is a little wild. Tell me, there’s no woman beside Yan ge, right? [joy]

Netizen D: Hubby, you weren’t like this before. [sob]

Netizen E: Why do I think there’s a woman lying next to him? [joy]

Netizen F: Promise me that you won’t post anymore. I won’t beg you to post a selfie anymore. [sob]

Su Shen also felt that Xie Yan had changed. He used to be so refined, but now…

Propping herself up, she looked at the hickeys all over her body and couldn’t help covering her face, not daring to open her eyes. Ultimately, she put on her clothes and walked towards the bathroom with difficulty.

After washing up, she came downstairs. The auntie had already prepared breakfast. Seeing her coming down, she immediately walked out of the kitchen with a smile. “Shen Shen, you’re up? I don’t know what you like to eat, so I made a little bit more.”

There were several varieties of breakfast on the table. Su Shen wanted to walk over to have a look, but her body suddenly hung in the air before she subconsciously grabbed an arm beside her. Xie Yan held her in his arms and strode over to the table.

“Why don’t you feel ashamed at all…” Sitting on the chair, Su Shen looked at the auntie in the kitchen blushingly.

The latter sat beside her and caressed her head as he heard that. “It doesn’t matter. The auntie knows all about it.”

  • I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 17.2

    Breathtaking Beauty

    “What are you guys doing!”

Suddenly, there was a shout from the front.

Everyone around looked at Wen Le’s side.

Wen Le wailed in her heart, this is too embarrassing……

Cheng Hui realized that she had overreacted a little bit, so she couldn’t help but cover her mouth and ran to Wen Le’s side.

It was only at this moment did Wen Le realize that the position they were in was a bit too ambiguous, and Zhou Kao quickly let Wen Le go.

Both of them were a little embarrassed.

TN: Ooo hehe guess they’re so comfortable with each other to be hugging in public like that 😉

Cheng Hui walked over with a smile, “You must be Zhou Kao. I am Wen Le’s classmate, you can leave Wen Le to me.”

As she spoke, she looked at Wen Le.

Wen Le coughed lightly, grabbed Cheng Hui’s arm vigorously, and said to Zhou Kao, “Sorry for bothering you tonight.”

Zhou Kao also replied politely: “It’s alright.”

After Zhou Kao left, Cheng Hui grabbed Wen Le’s hand and pressed her for answers, “Le Le, it can’t be right, what’s going on? Are you two together already?”

Wen Le was still immersed in the embarrassment from earlier from which she couldn’t extricate herself, and whispered: “No, it’s just a misunderstanding.”

Wen Le told Cheng Hui all about her bad luck tonight.

    Cheng Hui sighed.

“It’s weird, too weird, what kind of weird development is this!” Cheng Hui lamented in regret.

“It’s all my fault. If it weren’t for me disrupting the mood…Tsk tsk, I’m afraid you guys would’ve kissed in such a situation…”

    Wen Le pinched Cheng Hui.

    “Hiss~”

Cheng Hui smiled and said, “Just kidding, I’m just kidding. But what the hell is going on between him and Su Zhenzhen?”

Wen Le thought for a while and decided to tell Cheng Hui about it.

Cheng Hui listened and said, “Our dormitory won’t go out and gossip, and there’s nowhere to talk to others. I still think that this matter will be spread by her fake girlfriends.”

Wen Le shrugged: “You think so too?”

Cheng Hui said: “But this has nothing to do with us. I am mainly afraid that Sun Youmei will not give up.”

“Su Zhenzhen gave her such an expensive bag in order to let her spy on you. She has tasted the sweetness but suddenly lost her role…this abrupt change, tsk tsk. Of course, we are speculating on the worst possible course of action that she’ll take, but it doesn’t mean that will happen.”

Wen Le said: “She won’t dare to make too much trouble. If she is still bothered by the guidance counselor and her parents, she will definitely need us to cooperate with her.”

Cheng Hui said, “That’s also true.”

“But Lele, are you really not going to be with Zhou Kao?”

Wen Le shook her head very firmly, “Oh, no.”

Cheng Hui said: “Actually, I can’t figure it out. Both of you are single, and also are still rather hung up over each other. Why don’t you just get together? Is it because of Su Zhenzhen and Sun Youmei?”

Wen Le smiled and said, “If I want to be with Zhou Kao, Su Zhenzhen and Sun Youmei would not be a problem. You have to know the main thing is that we haven’t reached that stage yet…”

“Even though I do have a good impression of him and also admire his looks, this kind of attraction really doesn’t give me the urge to get rid of my single status and be with him that way.”

“It’s just a shallow attraction, it’s not up to the point where I have to be together with him.”

Cheng Hui shook her head and said, “I don’t understand.”

Wen Le said, “To put it simply, I still want things to happen on its own accord. I don’t want to date just for the sake of being in a relationship. If the feelings really accumulate to a certain extent, till it becomes affection, and I really really like him so much that I want to be with him right away, only then will I date him.”

“Besides, it’s also really good to be single.”

TN: Wow our FL is really a strong independent woman~

Wen Le didn’t know how Zhou Kao felt about this, maybe it might be similar to her?

Zhou Kao was also thinking on his way back to the dormitory, thinking about what sort of relationship he and Wen Le had.

He admitted that he really cared about Wen Le, and would even say that she was very special to him.

Wen Le was the only person that had ever moved his heart in his entire life. Wen Le was very special, really really special.

Zhou Kao has come across many girls, and they too were all very outstanding, beautiful, and smart. Yet, those girls just did not have the vigour of Wen Le.

The kind of vigour that made Zhou Kao feel very fascinated, someone who was evenly matched with him.

When it came to the opposite sex, Zhou Kao usually treated them with alienation and politeness.

But when it came to Wen Le, he often wanted to challenge her bottom line and see Wen Le’s disguised mask crack.

He wanted to beat her, defeat her, and even tame her.

    TN: LOL typical alpha male….

The unique wild temperament of Wen Le really fascinated Zhou Kao.

Even now, he could still clearly remember the visual and sensory impact of when he first saw Wen Le.

He even believed that Wen Le having brought about the enlightenment of his feelings was not something that should surprise him. After all, Wen Le had enraptured him as early as the first time they met.

Zhou Kao admitted that he had always been attracted to Wen Le till now, but this kind of attraction had not been to the point where he wanted to take the relationship one step forward.

He cared very much about Wen Le’s opinion of him, but he also didn’t care so much about Wen Le. Take for example, when someone confessed to Wen Le, it didn’t make him feel uncomfortable like his territory had been threatened.

Zhou Kao once thought that Wen Le was a school delinquent that engaged in campus bullying, and he was very disdainful of this side of her.

But just a week ago, his previous inherent impression of Wen Le was shattered when he saw her near the school cafe.

Near the school cafe, lived a litter of stray cats.

The school had a stray animal protection society, and some students who liked small animals would prepare cat food, rice bowls and clean water for those stray cats, and sometimes even milk with nutritional powder.

Those stray cats would come out for food from time to time.

However, though some stray cats having interacted with people for a long time were not afraid of people, a thin stray cat was the exception and was very wary of humans.

At noon that day, that little stray cat came out for food. Whenever someone passed by, it would give up eating and hide secretly, and only quietly sneak back out after waiting for them to leave.

At that time, Zhou Kao was sitting by the window of the cafe, and he saw this scene before his eyes.

The little stray cat’s meal had been interrupted several times, and Wen Le just happened to pass by.

Wen Le was holding a book in her hand, and she was carrying onigiris bought from a convenience store.

But Wen Le saw the stray cat cautiously running out of the corner for food from a distance. She seemed to smile, came to a stop, and stood still without moving forward.

The stray cat did not notice Wen Le, and finally was willing to eat the cat food with peace of mind.

Wen Le stood not far away and watched. She didn’t leave or take pictures with her mobile phone. Only till the stray cat disappeared after eating did she leave.

Zhou Kao was certain that Wen Le was indeed waiting for the stray cat to finish eating.

Zhou Kao thought at the time, would such a delicate and gentle action be made by a person who was bullying on campus?

And at that time, he actually only saw Wen Le and a few boys standing there, looking coldly at the people who fell to the ground in embarrassment but they did not take any further actions.

Zhou Kao thought, some stubborn and flawed thinking often distorts the real truth. It can be said that it was because of his youth that he made such a mistake back then, because of the good expectations he had of the girl he liked, and because he easily trusted the words of others. But now, should he make such a mistake again?

So Zhou Kao stopped being fixated on the scene of a misunderstanding in the past and looked at Wen Le again through a new perspective, who was already very different and yet still made him care about her.

After resting her foot injury for just a few days, Wen Le then quickly got back on her feet, because there were plenty of things that she still had to do.

The Social Council and the Student Union had decided to host a big event together.

The student union decided to hold a networking event for the freshmen soon after the start of school. The external relations department had pulled a big sponsorship for them, but the sponsor had requirements that they needed to fulfil. As the student union felt that it was a bit difficult for them to handle it alone, they decided to join forces with the Social Council to enjoy the benefits of this sponsorship.

Wen Le was the vice head of the publications department. In the morning, she received news that the Student Union had booked the school’s largest event venue and planned to hold a three-day orientation in the school gymnasium.

The sponsor first paid half of the sponsorship fee and proposed that if the flow of people and popularity of the event on BBS on the first day of orientation reached their target response, they would be willing to increase the sponsorship fee to three times the original amount.

The publicity department of the Social Council and the Student Union was naturally one of the main forces of this event.

For this orientation event, most of the members of the Student Union and the Social Council attended the meeting. Room 333 of building J was filled with people, all of whom were members of the two school clubs.

Wen Le, the vice head of Publicity, was naturally present, while Zhou Kao, a member of the Student Union, was also present.

After the meeting, the Student Union and the Social Council decided to accept the deal of tripling the sponsorship fee and use half of the sponsorship to donate to children in poor areas in the south who had lost their homes and schools due to floods and mudslides.

Meetings were held one after another, and the publicity department and event planning department quarrelled round after round. In between the meetings, there were even disagreements within the publicity and event planning departments.

As the number of people at a scene grew, it would get harder to control them. Further, the nonsense jokes and gossip that festered would be plenty too.

But among them, people with outstanding abilities were also quickly revealed and received the support and encouragement of everyone. Even the teachers in charge of the Social Council and the Student Union paid a little more attention to such people. This would undoubtedly be very beneficial for these outstanding people for the next election.

The most eye-catching among them were Zhou Kao and Wen Le, who were both popular trending figures on BBS.

Although there had long been rumours of a suspected relationship between the two, once one got close to them in person, they would know that those were really just scandals.

Besides, the way the two get along was quite intriguing.

Sometimes the two would mercilessly attack each other, and sometimes the two would cooperate with each other very tacitly.

Later on, someone asked about the relationship between the two, and the insiders of the Student Union and the Social Council could only conclude with a tangled expression, “They are a pair of equally matched rivals.”

    ? ? ?

And the person who was asked might add inexplicably, “And the two of them only added each other on WeChat on the day our team decided to add WeChat.”

    Tsk tsk.

  • Film Empress’s Daily Face Slapping Chapter 72

    Trap

When a beam of light fell on her, Su Shen took a deep breath. Wang Cheng, who was next to her, hugged her with a smile. She then got up and walked to the stage.

As she walked onto the stage step by step, there were all kinds of eyes measuring her. All the lights in the venue gathered and focused on her. Just at this moment, the big screen was playing her part in the movie, the last scene where the supporting female lead was dying.

After taking the heavy trophy from Tang Xuan, the other party hugged her with a smile. In response, Su Shen thanked her.

When she was left alone on the big stage, facing so many pairs of eyes below, Su Shen felt quite perplexed. She felt that everyone was probably pursuing this sense of attention, but compared with this feeling, she preferred to be recognized.

Coming to the mic, she paused before holding the trophy in one hand and holding the mic with the other. Looking into the audience: “Thank you so much to the committee for their recognition of me. I feel that I’m very lucky. In my acting career, I met a lot of people who helped me. I was not formally trained and didn’t perform well in the beginning, with some netizens even saying that my acting is diabolical.”

Speaking of this, there was another burst of laughter, seemingly not expecting that she would really say it.

“Every time I hear someone say that I have improved, I would be very happy. Thank you to those who have been silently supporting and encouraging me behind my back. Thank you all!” After saying that, Su Shen bowed.

The audience burst into another warm round of applause. Although it was just for show and Su Shen’s speech was diplomatic, as long as there was a camera, no one would utter their real thoughts. What she said was for those fans, indicating that she improved through constant studying.

After she came back with the trophy, Wang Cheng immediately looked at her and said with a smile, “You even won an award today, so you have to cook something yummy.”

After sitting down with the trophy in her arms, Su Shen fiddled with her dress and glanced at him. “When you get a girlfriend in the future, you can have dinner together every day.”

    Wang Cheng: “…….”

Li Hao couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Hearing what she had just said, Xie Yan also smiled.

“Su Shen, how did you become so bad? You weren’t like this before. Are you looking down on us single dogs?” Wang Cheng said as he reached out his arm to place it around Li Hao’s shoulder.

The latter blocked his hand and said with a smile, “Sorry, I have a girlfriend.”

    Wang Cheng: “……..”

“Who doesn’t have a girlfriend? I have about 50 million fans. My pursuers can line up to the airport from here. I’ll find a girlfriend and show you guys in minutes!” Wang Cheng felt that he was hurt in ten thousand ways, so he just snorted and sat there silently.

Su Shen smiled and said nothing. Just at this moment, the Best Director award was being awarded on stage, and the next should be the Best Actor award.

She didn’t think that Xie Yan could win it because the script for the movie was not solid enough. Moreover, a veteran superstar was nominated this time too, and could be considered a comeback from retirement. If nothing goes wrong, the winner would be him.

“Okay, the most exciting moment is here. Who will be the winner of the Best Actor and Best Actress of this year?” The awarding guest looked at the name of the winner and exclaimed as they looked at the actress beside them, “This is an actor I really like, so…”

There was a burst of warm applause at that. Everyone knew who it was without a doubt.

“Yep, the Best Actor of the 53rd Silver Lion award is… Dai Zhijun laoshi!”

At that, there was another round of warm applause. A man in his 50s bowed to the audience and then walked to the stage with a smile.

Dai Zhijun had won several Best Actor awards before and was extremely famous at his time. He later retired for a few years for his family and then became active again in the industry. It was not surprising that he won this award.

Ai, do you think Yan ge will be sad?” Wang Cheng leaned over and asked.

Without turning around, Su Shen pushed his head away and said, “It all depends on luck.”

Xie Yan had already won two Best Actor awards. If he wanted to achieve the grand slam, he would need a lot of luck and strength. In the history of showbiz, only a few people had won the three main acting awards. But, Xie Yan still had a lot of time to pursue it. Su Shen believed that he still had a chance.

After the award ceremony finished, there was a crowd of reporters waiting outside. They were stopped by them as expected.

When more than a dozen mics were aimed at them, Su Shen kept a smile on her face. However, the first person asked by the reporters was Xie Yan, “You didn’t win an award today. Xie Yan, do you have any regrets?”

In front of them were mics of various news media, and the flashes were incessant. In the face of so many cameras, Xie Yan said with his expression unchanging, “Dai laoshi is a great senior. He is deserving.”

Seeing that he only said conventional words, these reporters began to ask sly questions. A female reporter directly pushed a mic into his face and asked, “There was a photo of you holding a girl’s hand to attend Jiang Liankai’s wedding online. Is that your girlfriend?”

These reporters were different from those hosts. They asked whatever they wanted to know and touched on anything that would be a hot pic, all to attract the interest of the public.

At that, Xie Yan paused before smiling. “Yes.”

At the side, Su Shen arched a brow, afraid that he would reveal it by accident.

Seeing that he publicly admitted that he had a girlfriend for the first time, those reporters finally found a breaking topic. They striked the iron while it was hot and continued to ask, “Is she in the entertainment industry or not?”

As soon as he finished his words, He Hua broke in with a few bodyguards and immediately surrounded Xie Yan’s side. “Good news will be announced! Please move aside!”

“Is she in the entertainment industry? Have you worked together before?”

“Do you guys plan to get married?”

    “When will you go public?”

Those reporters kept following them incessantly, but they were all blocked outside by the bodyguards. Su Shen immediately followed Wang Cheng and them backstage, fearing that those reporters would come back again.

After getting into the SUV and changing into simple clothes, Su Shen had Liu jie go back first before she quietly got into Li Hao’s car to go to Xie Yan’s house.

The live broadcast of the award ceremony had also ended. Xie Yan’s fans were quite rational and didn’t grumble that it was not fair that their idol didn’t win an award. Instead, they congratulated Li Hao and her, who had won awards, thus sending them onto Hot Search on Weibo.

Netizen A: Su Su’s so awesome! Those antis who said that our Su Su’s acting was poor, come out. Does your face hurt or not? [smiley face]

Netizen B: Although the character was unlikeable, Su Shen’s portrayal of the imperial concubine was like an onion unraveling and not just as a supporting female lead that died in the name of love. Rather, she expended a lot for the male lead. On the other hand, the female lead did nothing. Su Shen did a fabulous job portraying the role. Supporting xiao jiejie!

Netizen C: Mu Yao and Yang Zhi should take note, already almost in their 30s and still acting in idol dramas. The newcomer’s already surpassed them. If they don’t change their careers soon, post-2000s will be debuting soon. [joy]

Netizen D: Su Shen’s so elegant. Today’s gown was also super beautiful, and she didn’t appear nervous at all. Ahaha, it turns out that xiao jiejie also knows her acting in the beginning is diabolical. [joy]

Netizen E: Su Shen’s definitely the artist with the fastest improvement in acting I’ve ever seen. I hope xiao jiejie will continue to work hard. Passerby turned fan!

Netizen F: These diehard fans boasting a Best Newcomer award out of proportion. If she were to win a Best Actress, were they going to boast it all the way to the universe? [smiley face]

Netizen G: No matter how the antis attack, it’s useless. My Su Su is still the only post-90s starlet to win a mainstream film award. [smiley face]

The company should be moderating the comments. Liu jie has been working hard to overturn her reputation so that the dark history of the past could only become history, but this still depended on her later works.

The various news media outlets still hadn’t finished their articles yet, and they wouldn’t publish until tomorrow. However, the company had already contacted the media, and they would try their best to publicize the fact that she had won an award.

When the car arrived at Xie Yan’s house, Wang Cheng was already there. Although it was already 10:00 pm, it didn’t hinder the men from liking to drink at night.

There were security guards in the private community of mansions, so there should not be any paparazzi. If there were, He Hua would have already greeted them. When Su Shen entered the mansion, she saw He Hua and Wang Cheng sitting on the sofa and chatting. The light in the kitchen was on. It was most likely the auntie who was cooking up some food.

After changing her shoes, Su Shen didn’t see Xie Yan, so she immediately walked through the mansion and finally found him in his room, only to find that he was changing his clothes!

“Why… Why didn’t you lock the door!” She suddenly turned around, and her face turned red!

Putting on a T-shirt, Xie Yan walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, whispering into her ear, “They all will knock on the door, except for you.”

    Su Shen: “…….”

She didn’t think too much about it, so she just opened the door casually. Who knew he would be changing his clothes!

“You… You didn’t win an award today. Are you unhappy?” She broke free from his embrace and turned around with difficulty.

Anyhow, she felt that there would be more or less some regret. After all, the opportunity to be nominated was hard to come by.

Looking at her consoling expression, Xie Yan arched a brow and suddenly pushed her against the door. Looking down at her big bright eyes, he said in a deep voice, “So, how are you going to comfort me?”

Their eyes met. His expression was so fervent, causing Su Shen’s heart to beat faster. Turning away with her ears red, “I… I don’t see that you need my comfort.”

He appeared to be quite happy and even asked He Hua to come over for dinner.

“I need your comfort here.” He grabbed her hand and pressed it against his heart.

As if like an electric shock, Su Shen pushed him away blushingly and ran downstairs.

Looking at her hurried back, Xie Yan just chuckled and followed after her. This girl was shy beyond extent.

Seeing her hurrying downstairs, He Hua, sitting on the sofa, couldn’t help yelling, “Su Shen, you won an award today. You’re not happy? Why do you look like you saw a ghost!”

“AHAHAHA! She must’ve been bullied by Xie Yan, that dude. These two are so lovey-dovey every day. Who knows? I might be attending their wedding next year.” Sitting on the sofa, Li Hao lit a cigarette and took a deep puff.

Hearing their tease, Su Shen ran into the kitchen. Seeing her come in, the auntie in the kitchen quickly said that she didn’t need her help, but Su Shen insisted, so she just let her do as she pleased.

It was already so late at night, so they just casually made some food to pair with alcohol. With two people, they quickly finished cooking. Perhaps she didn’t expect that a girl like her would have such great culinary skills, so the auntie was surprised. When the six, seven dishes were served on the dinner table, He Hua thought the auntie made them, but after hearing that they were made by Su Shen, his opinion of her changed greatly again.

“Not bad. No wonder Xie Yan doesn’t like the food made by others. I didn’t expect you to be so good at cooking.” He Hua took a sip of alcohol and looked at Su Shen differently.

The latter smiled and said nothing. She was not hungry, so she ran to the sofa and scrolled on her phone, letting the men sit there and drink.

At this time, some of the artists who had worked with her had already expressed their congratulations by @ her on Weibo, including Zhu Qinqin. But, Su Shen knew that she just wanted to get clout.

There was no dark horse for Best Actor and Best Actress this year, so it didn’t grab a lot of attention. However, after the video of Xie Yan admitting that he had a girlfriend was published, those fans wailed again. They could deceive themselves before, but now, the said person even admitted it. The articles about it hadn’t been released yet. When the news broke out tomorrow on those news media sites, those fans would definitely refuse to agree to it again.

Netizen A: I broke up again!!!

Netizen B: When Xie Yan said he had a girlfriend, he smiled. How much did he like her to subconsciously smile like that? [sob]

Netizen C: The rooftop’s gonna be full of people again tonight. I just want to smoke first and then tell those people to please leave a spot for me.

Netizen D: Every time Yan ge accepts an interview, he can’t help revealing news. Please don’t accept any more interviews. We can’t bear it. [joy]

Netizen E: I don’t care. Hubby’s mine. All others are little b***hes. [dagger]

Netizen F: Before Li Hao went on stage, he tightly hugged Yan ge. They’re actually a couple, aren’t they? [joy]

Su Shen felt that the sky was the limit for these netizens’ brains and couldn’t help laughing. However, this could also test the bottom line of their fans. Otherwise, if the news that Xie Yan had a girlfriend suddenly came out, those fans would definitely not accept it. It was better to let them accept the fact little by little first.

The chandelier in the living room was dazzling, and Su Shen didn’t know when she fell asleep. When she woke up, the living room was quiet. There was no one at the dinner table. Clearly, Li Hao and the others had left.

Looking at her phone, it was already midnight. Just at this moment, she saw Xie Yan coming downstairs from the second floor with wet hair. Clearly, he had just taken a shower.

“Can… Can you drive me home?” She lowered her voice subconsciously.

Nearing her, Xie Yan bent over and stared into her eyes, “Nope.”

As soon as he bent over, Su Shen saw his muscles from the collar of his shirt. Immediately, she blushed and looked away.

“But, I… I don’t have any clothes with me.” She shrank into the corner of the sofa and her eyes wandered around, her ears slightly red.

Sitting next to her, Xie Yan said earnestly, “I bought you some clothes.”

    Su Shen: “…….”

“There’s a lot of clothes in the closet in the first room on the right upstairs. You can go and take a look. If you don’t like them, I’ll have Zhao Tong tell the stores to bring some more tomorrow.” He said in all seriousness.

Su Shen held her breath and didn’t know what to say, but it was not like they hadn’t slept together before. She believed in Xie Yan.

Thinking of this, she got up, put on her pair of pink slippers, and hesitated to go upstairs.

Coming to the room at the corner of the second floor, the interior was very simple, and Su Shen thought she could sleep here tonight.

However, as soon as she opened the closet, she saw several rows of nightgowns, dresses, and even underwear, which were exactly her size!

Su Shen closed the closet and took a few deep breaths with her back against the door of the closet, but her face was still a little hot.

After taking a deep breath, she finally convinced herself to believe in Xie Yan’s character. She then took out a blue nightgown from inside. She didn’t understand why Xie Yan didn’t buy pajamas. She didn’t actually like to sleep in nightgowns.

After entering the bathroom, Su Shen filled the huge bathtub with water. She had been busy all day and was exhausted. She leaned against the bathtub and soaked for a while. She felt that she had to buy a bigger bathtub at home. The one now was a bit small.

It was not until the water became cool that she was about to put on her clothes. However, she found that there was no towel in the bathroom, and she was soaked. After sitting in the bathtub for a while, she finally plucked up the courage to come to the door and shouted, “Xie Yan!”

Xie Yan was upstairs, so when he heard her shout, he strode to the bathroom. Looking at the mist rising from inside, his eyes darkened, “What’s wrong?”

Hearing that he was at the door, Su Shen couldn’t help but blush, but she still plucked up her courage and mumbled, “I… I don’t have a towel.”

Through the bathroom door, he could clearly hear the uneasiness in her voice. After a pause, Xie Yan said, “I’ll go get it for you.”

She didn’t know if it was because of the bath or something, but her face was red. The water droplets on her forehead slid down to her jaw. She held the doorknob tightly with her hands as if she was afraid that someone would barge in.

After a while, a figure appeared outside the door. Su Shen immediately neared the door and said, “You… you can just give it to me.”

Looking at the tightly locked door, Xie Yan chuckled, “How can I give it to you if you don’t open the door?”

  • I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 17.1

    Breathtaking Beauty

Zhou Kao raised his hands in the air at a loss, “You…What are you doing?”

Wen Le clung to Zhou Kao’s neck tightly with both hands, still a little shocked, “Insect! Insects, oh my god, it’s so long, it must be a centipede!”

Since young, Wen Le was not afraid of anything, not even snakes, but her only weakness was insects.

Wen Le grew up in the mountains since she was a child. She had climbed trees and crossed rivers, seen wild boars catching snakes, and seen various ‘dangerous encounters’, but her fear of insects had always been a psychological shadow that Wen Le could not overcome.

In other words, this was also related to Wen Le’s experience when she was a child.

The climate in the southwest was hot and humid, so naturally, there were many insects thriving. In addition, Wen Le and her grandfather lived in the mountains, where the vegetation was lush, thus there was even more vast number of insects.

However, it was also unknown what type of physique Wen Le had, that she was particularly attractive to said insects.

It is said that when Wen Le was very young, for some unknown reason, a caterpillar crawled on her little skirt. Only after half a day had passed, did she find out about it and it scared young Wen Le to tears.

As she got older and loved playing outdoors, a grass centipede would climb up to the heel of her feet, which directly scared off her entire soul.

There was even a situation when Wen Le discovered a gecko under her pillow.

In short, using Wen Le’s encounters from childhood to adulthood a history of insect horror could be written.

There were some things that you could get used to after being scared repeatedly by it, but there were also some things that could haunt you for the rest of your life.

Wen Le hung onto Zhou Kao and felt like crying.

What the hell is going on tonight!

Zhou Kao seemed to be aware of Wen Le’s emotions. He was afraid that she would fall and hurt her feet again. So he hugged her tighter and said in a low voice, “Should we go out and wait?”

    Wen Le nodded sullenly.

Zhou Kao hugged her, turned his head and whispered softly in Wen Le’s ear: “It’s okay, I’m here.”

Zhou Kao put his warm palms on Wen Le’s back, and his low and slow voice sounded in Wen Le’s ears, inexplicably giving people a sense of security that made people relax and want to rely on him.

Zhou Kao walked out under the trees and found a clean corner to put Wen Le down. Wen Le managed to stand firmly on one foot with the help of Zhou Kao, and sighed.

“I thought you weren’t afraid of anything.” Zhou Kao spoke.

Wen Le sneered: “Am I not?”

    Zhou Kao raised his eyebrows.

Wen Le said: “Insects, an anti-human species, are not included.”

Wen Le looked down and confirmed that there were no insects under her feet, “I’m probably more unlucky today.”

She had been going to school for so long, and to be honest, Wen Le hadn’t seen any insects for a long time. She didn’t know why they had to appear in front of Zhou Kao today……

Honestly speaking, Wen Le was a little depressed. It was probably because this encounter compromised the image of an invulnerable winner she had always maintained in front of Zhou Kao.

Zhou Kao thought that Wen Le’s bad luck meant her twisted ankle, and Wen Le’s ankle injury was indeed an innocent disaster that had an indirect relationship with him.

For this nonsense disaster, Zhou Kao needed to give Wen Le an explanation.

In fact, the relationship between Zhou Kao’s family and Su Zhenzhen’s family was not so close.

Su Zhenzhen’s family was in business, and Zhou Kao’s father was in politics. There was basically no intersection, and even if you were to compare the families which could be ranked according to a social hierarchy, Su Zhenzhen’s family did not have such a high position in the upper-class circle.

Zhou Kao’s maternal grandfather’s family were the ones who are really close to Su Zhenzhen’s family.

The two families were able to get acquainted with each other, not because they were in the same social circle, but only because the two families were neighbours, and Su Zhenzhen’s mother was a hostess with excellent hospitality and cooking skills.

Su Zhenzhen’s family stayed next to Zhou Kao’s grandfather’s house, so the two of them knew each other since they were young.

But later, with Zhou Kao’s father’s transfer, and Zhou Kao studying at the most famous private school in Q City, they also hadn’t met for seven or eight years.

The next time Zhou Kao saw Su Zhenzhen again, was after the college entrance examination was over.

At that time, Zhou Kao’s grandfather gave Zhou Kao a company, and Zhou Kao followed his uncle to learn to manage the company. During that time, he lived in his grandfather’s house and met Su Zhenzhen next door a few times, but they also didn’t talk.

Su Zhenzhen went to school early. Although she was in the same grade as them, she was actually one year younger. Even when she was a child, Zhou Kao always regarded Su Zhenzhen as his younger sister.

They hadn’t seen each other for seven or eight years and were very unfamiliar with each other.

Moreover, the two of them didn’t really have many common topics to talk about, and their total conversation would only amount to a few sentences.

At that time, Zhou Kao’s uncle happened to have some business dealings with the Su family, so it was inevitable that during some drinking gatherings, he would sometimes bring Zhou Kao.

At the drinking table, Zhou Kao’s uncle may have drunk too much. He said that the two families have known each other since they were young, and the children were about the same age. Wouldn’t it be a good thing if they could make up a pair?

At that time, his uncle was just being polite. He was just an uncle, how could he set up a marriage for his nephew without his father’s knowledge? At that time, everyone present regarded it as a joke, but the Su family actually took his word for it.

The Zhou family was a fairly established family in the upper-class circle, and their foundation was rather solid. Having a marriage alliance with such a family was also quite decent for a family like the Su family whose foundation was not stable enough, not to mention the benefits it would bring, which made them really excited.

So the Su family, who had already accepted this decision in their minds, went about spreading the news.

Su Zhenzhen probably also had some interest in Zhou Kao, noticed the excitement and happiness from her family, and thought that she was about to become Zhou Kao’s fiancee.

But the implementation of the Su family’s marriage plan did not go smoothly.

Father Su and Zhou Kao’s father and grandfather were not familiar with each other. The closest person the Su family could contact from the Zhou family was Zhou Kao’s uncle.

But Zhou Kao’s uncle knew the situation of the Zhou family.

The Zhou family was very upright. Although they did care about finding a well-matched partner in terms of social status, the children in the family had always been allowed to pursue love freely. It was impossible for the Zhou family to covet the Su family’s money and have a marriage alliance with them. In other words, the Su family could benefit from the Zhou family, but the Zhou family did not stand to gain from the Su family.

Further, to be honest, it was rather unsightly of the Su family to cling to the Zhou family with such mildly aggressive behaviour.

If Zhou Kao and Su Zhenzhen were really attracted to each other, then the Zhou family would not object to them. However, if Zhou Kao did not have any feelings for Su Zhenzhen, it would be basically impossible for such a family to have a marriage alliance with the Zhou family.

Zhou Kao’s uncle knew the temper of the Zhou family, so when he heard Su Zhenzhen’s father talking about this, he just laughed and brushed off the topic, without even acknowledging it.

Afterwards, Zhou Kao’s uncle also secretly scolded himself for talking too much at the beginning. If he hadn’t been drunk and talked nonsense, how could he have let the Su family have such thoughts?

But how could the Su family give up so easily?

If it didn’t work the first time, then try a second time. The first few times the matter was brushed off by Zhou Kao’s uncle, and he then even hid from Father Su for several days for this matter.

How could Father Su not detect Zhou Kao’s uncle’s attitude? He had long known that the Zhou family did not have the intention of having an alliance marriage, but he was unwilling and not reconciled to think otherwise.

In addition, Su Zhenzhen really liked Zhou Kao, so he shamelessly went to confront Zhou Kao’s uncle to talk about the matter.

Now that Father Su had done this, Zhou Kao’s uncle was unable to avoid the topic anymore, and thus called his brother-in-law in front of Father Su.

Father Zhou knew immediately what was going on after listening to the situation. He just said, What age are we in? His daughter-in-law would naturally be brought back by Zhou Kao himself. Who Zhou Kao wants to marry is his own business. When he wants to get married, he will tell us naturally. Nowadays aren’t we all emphasizing that children are independent individuals? As parents, we have to learn to let them go on their own.

Zhou Kao’s father said it very tactfully, but his attitude was still very clear. Our family will not engage in such marriage alliances.

Thus this wishful engagement finally ended without illness.

Zhou Kao took into account the girl’s reputation and only vaguely said the gist of the story. Wen Le herself could probably guess the rest of it.

Wen Le still believed in Zhou Kao’s words, agreed with Zhou Kao’s point of view, and said, “Don’t worry, neither I nor our dormitory will talk about it.”

Only…This matter was originally revealed by Su Zhenzhen herself. To be honest, Wen Le felt that even if she were to keep it secret, Su Zhenzhen’s fake girlfriends would probably stab her in the back and spread the news themselves.

Take for example, what Sun Youmei did.

However, Wen Le didn’t say much about these, she believed that Zhou Kao could also guess it in his heart.

Compared with Su Zhenzhen’s affairs, Wen Le was more concerned about regaining the face she had just lost because of the insects.

Perhaps because Wen Le and Zhou Kao only came to know of the other due to them competing for the first position in the grade, whenever Wen Le faced Zhou Kao, she would always have the desire to win. To her, the pleasure of gaining the upper hand in a duel with Zhou Kao was no less than the satisfaction of winning a prize in a competition.

With a smile in Wen Le’s eyes, she asked, “It’s just why are you explaining this to me?”

Zhou Kao glanced at Wen Le and said lightly: “I was just afraid that after working so hard to carry someone back, I’ll still be scolded by some people as a scumbag who already has a fiancee yet still goes around hugging other girls.”

Wen Le raised her eyebrows and replied with a smile: “It turns out that you care quite a bit about your image in my heart.”

Zhou Kao asked Wen Le rhetorically, “Oh really? You feel that I really care about how I appear in your heart?”

Zhou Kao never failed to catch on.

Wen Le curled her lips and said, “Forget it, I can never win against a law student. Are the people in your law faculty more sharp-mouthed than others?”

“Oh, aren’t you the best debater on your debate team?”

“You want to see me at the debate?”

“Don’t you always want to beat me?”

“I have good self-confidence,” Wen Le said: “I just can’t take anyone overtaking me on the ranking. No matter who it is, I can’t allow it.”

    “Someone’s really competitive.”

Wen Le raised her head and smiled like a flower, “You say it as if you are not the same.”

Zhou Kao smiled but said nothing. He did not agree, nor did he disagree.

    “Hiss~”

Wen Le lowered her head, “Something bit me!”

Zhou Kao thought Wen Le would still jump up, subconsciously supported Wen Le’s waist, and took her into his arms, “Where?”

Wen Le was embraced in Zhou Kao’s hug, and her forehead brushed Zhou Kao’s Adam’s apple. Every breath she took was full of Zhou Kao’s scent, and she couldn’t help feeling a little hot and bothered.

    “What are you guys doing!”

Suddenly, there was a shout from the front.

TN: Oops I wonder what happens next!!

    Best Newcomer

“What dinner, let’s go drink later!” Li Hao wrapped his arm around Wang Cheng’s shoulder and glanced at Xie Yan, seemingly never seen such a stingy man like him before.

Su Shen jabbed Xie Yan’s arm and said, “It’s okay, it’s just a dinner. It’s the same going to his house to drink.”

Xie Yan closed his eyes and said nothing. The two of them looked at each other and then shied away again, “Isn’t this not good? If the two of us disturb you guys, Yan ge would definitely be unhappy.”

“That’s right. But since Su Shen has said so, if we don’t agree, we won’t be giving face,” said Li Hao with dead earnesty.

Su Shen was amused by them. It was hard for them to have dinner together since they had to film every day of the entire year. It was really nothing.

She turned to the side and saw Xie Yan still leaning against his seat in silence, so she leaned over and whispered, “I’m free for the next few days.”

Hearing that, Xie Yan instantly opened his eyes. Seeing that she was still blinking and staring at him, he couldn’t help but plant a kiss on her forehead, whispering, “Me too.”

The people in front of them were already used to their PDA, but Li Hao was still really amazed by Su Shen, who was able to make Xie Yan be so docile. They still weren’t sick of this kind of clinginess.

It was not until the staff outside said that they could get out now that Su Shen opened the door and carefully lifted her gown to get out of the car.

Most of the people outside had already left. The long red carpet was surrounded by cameras and a cast had just walked the red carpet. Su Shen wanted to stand next to Wang Cheng, lest she would be attacked for not understanding protocol if she stood in the middle.

Xie Yan didn’t stand in the middle either, but next to Su Shen. In the end, the middle position was taken by Fan Meng.

The red carpet was surrounded by flashing lights. Instead of lifting her gown, Su Shen let the hem of the gown fall to the ground meandering. Su Shen kept a smile on her face as flashes of the cameras from all around were incessant. After they finally walked to the middle, the host asked them to come over for a bit.

Fan Meng was wearing a black lady’s suit today, seemingly wanting to appear as an experienced but capable career woman. This was her first public appearance ever since the hotel scandal, but she appeared to look good and didn’t seem to be bothered by the comments online.

“Wow! I finally saw my idol!” The hostess exclaimed in surprise when she saw Xie Yan, keeping a polite yet excited smile.

Wearing a black suit, Xie Yan stood next to Su Shen and insipidly smiled upon hearing that.

The host, on the other hand, nudged the hostess and said jokingly, “Ask Xie Yan if you can hug him for a bit.”

At that, Li Hao, who was holding the mic, said actively, “Of course!”

Wang Cheng couldn’t help but glance at Li Hao and wanted to laugh. He didn’t expect him to make trouble here.

With so many people around, Su Shen quietly tugged at the corner of Xie Yan’s jacket, indicating to him to just go along with it.

After a pause, Xie Yan still took a step forward. The hostess was surprised and flattered before stepping forward and gently hugged him. She then quickly stepped back and smiled in disbelief, “I actually hugged my idol!”

Xie Yan rarely participated in these kinds of engagements, and the hostess was not a well-known host either, so there was very little chance to encounter Xie Yan.

“Lady Luck must be smiling on you today. As far as I know, Xie Yan, you seldom attend these kinds of events, right?” The host changed the topic cleverly.

The flashes continued. Su Shen kept a smile on her face and turned to the side slightly, only to see Xie Yan nodding without saying anything.

Knowing that he was not a person who would liven the atmosphere, the host continued to ask, “I heard that you were nominated for Best Actor today. Are you confident in yourself?”

Facing so many cameras, Xie Yan turned to the side to glance at Su Shen and pointed at her. “She said I couldn’t win it.”

    Su Shen: “……..”

Wang Cheng almost burst into laughter, but he tried his best to keep a polite smile.

The flashes were even louder. Su Shen kept a smile on her face and said to the host while holding the mic, “I was just kidding. He’s petty and bore it in mind.”

She had just casually mentioned it in the car at first, saying that he wouldn’t be able to win it today. She didn’t expect that he would say it out loud. Now those fans would definitely think that they were pretty close to the point of making such a joke.

Clearly, the host didn’t expect that they would be so close and then continued the topic, looking at Su Shen: “I heard that you guys worked on a drama. Are you guys pretty close then?”

Su Shen had answered these kinds of questions so commonly that she replied with a smile without any hesitation, “Xie laoshi is a great senior. I can learn a lot from him. We work well together.”

Xie Yan said nothing and just looked at her quietly.

At that, the host nodded again and cast his gaze onto Fan Meng. After all, it was her first public appearance ever since the hotel scandal.

“Fan Meng, you were nominated once for a Silver Lion award before. Are you sad that you didn’t get nominated this time around?” The host asked.

Fan Meng just smiled upon hearing that before holding the mic and replying conscientiously, “I’m not very satisfied with my performance this time. I think only when there is competition, there will be pressure, and only when there is pressure, there will be progress. I will try my best to bring everyone better works.”

The host couldn’t ask her about the hotel scandal so candidly, so he just asked a trivial question and let her go.

After the interview, the host then allowed them in. When they entered, the whole cast was seated next to each other, with Su Shen next to Wang Cheng. At this time, the award ceremony hadn’t begun yet and was dark all around, except for the small lights under the stage.

Su Shen went on the live broadcast, and the bullet comments were full of “AHHHHH”. Perhaps it was the first time that they had seen Xie Yan joking, it was akin to those fans finding a new element or something.

Netizen A: My hubby’s too cute, to push the blame on Su Shen. [joy]

Netizen B: I suddenly ship this Crab Cake* CP. [joy]

Crab Cake – a play on words with Xie Yan and Su Shen’s names, 蟹黄 (Xie Huang) means the meat and roe of crabs, 酥 (Su) means fluffy pastry, so combined it becomes Crab Cake!

Netizen C: Fan Meng’s too shameless. Everyone very knowingly stood to the side, but she liked to squeeze into the middle. Even Su Shen was polite enough to stand to the side. She’s too shameless. [vomit]

Netizen D: Is Fan Meng coming out to solicit again? Her shamelessness is thicker than the Great Wall of China. [vomit]

Netizen E: Su Shen and Xie Yan’s relationship is so good! This whole cast is so heartwarming, except for that rat shit, Fan Meng. [joy]

Netizen F: I don’t know if anyone has noticed that when Su Shen was saying that Xie laoshi is a great senior, my Yan ge was staring at her. [joy]

The comments on the bullet screen were about to be flooded. Su Shen was also very helpless. These netizens could go be Sherlock Holmes. It was better for her not to attend these kinds of events with Xie Yan in the future, lest they guessed and said that she was hyping again.

When the award ceremony officially began, Wang Cheng, who was next to her, was playing games again and even invited her to form a team, but Su Shen ignored him. The camera would come over from time to time, especially where Xie Yan was, but he was expressionless throughout.

When it was time for the Best Supporting Actor award, the camera paused for a bit on Li Hao as his name was announced for the nomination. Su Shen could see that Li Hao was a little nervous since he had only ventured into the big screen in the past two years, and an award could give him a lot of points. It was also more of a recognition of his acting.

The awarding guests were a veteran drama actor and a semi-well-known Chinese opera actress from the 80s. When they saw the names nominated, the two also began to guess who would win the award tonight.

“It has always been said that supporting roles are green leaves, but flowers can’t show their beautifulness without the green leaves. In a good play, these unknown green leaves are often needed to show the greatness of a play. I think the best supporting actors of this year are all so strong and that the competition will be very fierce.” The actress looked at the veteran actor beside her.

The latter nodded and said, “That’s right, only when there is competition is there progress. Then Pan Fei, who do you think will be the winner tonight?”

“I don’t know. Then Yu laoshi, who do you think it will be?” The actress counter asked with a smile.

The veteran actor just smiled. “Let’s stop guessing and look at the result.”

As the lights flickered, Su Shen glanced at Li Hao. Just at this moment, the actress had opened the award card, and after a pause, she said with a smile, “Wow, I really like this actor a lot. He’s very handsome and MAN!”

“The nominations this time are all very handsome.” The veteran actor laughed.

The actress didn’t keep up the suspense and said into the mic while looking at the audience, “Okay, the Best Supporting Actor of the 53rd Silver Lion Award is…”

“I think it’s Hao ge,” whispered Su Shen to Wang Cheng.

The latter glanced at her, leaned over, and whispered, “What if it isn’t him?”

Su Shen smiled and said nothing, continuing to look at the stage.

    “Li Hao!”

As soon as the actress’s words fell, there was a burst of warm applause from the audience. As the light fell on Li Hao, he was obviously stunned before standing up. Wang Cheng patted his shoulder with a grin, and he even hugged Xie Yan excitedly for a bit.

Being hugged hard, Xie Yan kept a smile on his face. Li Hao then walked onto the stage with a grin.

For an actor, awards were gratifications. The Silver Lion Award was one of the three most valuable awards in China. Even for a Best Supporting Actor, it was a great honor. Some people could not even win a Best Supporting Actor award in their whole lifetime.

The Best Supporting Actress went to a post-90s actress who had just debuted not long ago. Her acting was solid and very expressive. It was within expectations for her to win the Best Supporting Actress award.

After receiving the award, all the lights were focused on the two of them. After the Best Supporting Actress finished her speech, Li Hao came to the mic with his trophy in hand, “I didn’t expect to win this award. Honestly, I’m very surprised. Thank you to the committee for their vote. I also want to thank Director Huang for asking me to play this role. Yu laoshi is right, only when there is competition is there progress. I will always keep this to heart and strive to improve myself. I hope to bring better works to everyone. Thank you!”

At that, there was another round of warm applause. Although they were all just going along with it since it was not them winning the award, they still had to put on a show.

Almost half of the audience was part of the entertainment industry. When everyone’s eyes fell on you, it was probably the feeling of a thousand eyes on you.

After his speech, Li Hao walked down the stage with his trophy in hand, and the ceremony carried on to the other awards.

After he sat down, Wang Cheng took the trophy and weighed it in his hand. “This purity is not enough. The purity of the Best Actor must be enough.”

“Shoo, shoo, shoo. I’ll get the purest one one day!” Li Hao held his trophy and appeared to be in a good mood.

Su Shen laughed. Winning an award not only depended on capability but also luck. If the competition was fierce, then luck was out. Although it was also very fierce this time, Li Hao had the capability.

After several bouts of awards, it was finally the Best Newcomer award. The awarding guests were Tang Xuan and another mid-aged actor. The ones nominated this time were also very strong, among which was a child star actress. Her acting was extremely solid and had also just entered the big screen. She had been in school all this while.

“Aren’t you nervous?” Wang Cheng turned to look at her.

Su Shen glanced at him from the corner of her eye and smiled helplessly. “What do you think I should do to make myself appear to be nervous then?”

Wang Cheng thought she was too calm and didn’t look like a newcomer who had just debuted for two or three years. He glanced at her and said nothing.

Just at this moment, the two people on stage had finished livening up the atmosphere. After looking at the winner, Tang Xuan looked at the audience while speaking into the mic, “I met the winner of this award once before. She’s very bold and knows to try something that many people don’t even dare to try. I think she’s very expressive and also very beautiful.”

Perhaps it was because the atmosphere at the scene was too good that Su Shen in the audience suddenly felt a little nervous. Not to mention that this award would be the first award on her resume, it was also a kind of recognition for her.

“The winner of the Best Newcomer Award of the 53rd Silver Lion Award is…”

Su Shen subconsciously looked at Xie Yan, who was also looking at her. Seeing him, she calmed down inexplicably.

Tang Xuan said into the mic while looking at the audience, “Su Shen!”

    Freeloading Dinner

After a moment’s silence, Su Shen ultimately nodded.

Seeing her agree, the director continued, “No worries. We will fix the sound during editing.”

This was how variety shows worked nowadays. They would enlarge people’s focal point, but in reality, everything depended on post-editing.

“I need to have a try of you guys’ guzheng first,” said Su Shen seriously, or she wouldn’t be able to control the sound and plucking of the guzheng well.

Hearing this, the director naturally said no problem and continued to go over a few more questions with her before asking someone to bring the guzheng over to her.

The rehearsal was held in the afternoon, and the actual recording would be held at night. Su Shen had gotten used to the pattern of these variety shows, and it all depended on post-production.

When the actual recording began at night, the audience had already entered the venue. Su Shen also had fans now. There was a group of fans sitting together in the audience holding her name and shouting it from time to time.

When the show began, she went on stage with several main characters of the cast. Immediately, there was a burst of warm applause from the audience. Su Shen kept a smile on her face as all the cameras focused on them.

“Let’s give a warm welcome to the main cast of Green Blood Sword!” The host said into the mic.

Immediately, a burst of applause erupted from the audience. The hostess then asked them to introduce themselves. Standing in the middle, Su Shen took the mic and smiled at the camera. “Hi everyone, I’m Su Shen, and I played Xuan Yuanjing in the drama.”

“Su Shen, this is the first time you worked with Jiang Yin, right? Was there a good rapport between you two?” The hostess asked.

This had all been rehearsed beforehand, so Su Shen naturally replied with a smile with her prepared answer, “In the beginning, we weren’t familiar with each other, but it got better later on.”

At that, the hostess didn’t follow up and asked Jiang Yin to introduce himself.

After everyone’s introductions, the host asked them to sit down to chat. He took a look at his script and said, “Our theme today is about breakups. In the drama, did the male and female leads ever break up?”

Su Shen held the mic and replied upon hearing that, “The female lead broke up one-sidedly.”

“But the male lead didn’t permit it,” added Jiang Yin.

The hosts across from them all laughed, and the hostess asked with a smile, “The drama seems to be quite melodramatic. So, did they break up or not?”

Thinking of the messy plot later on, Su Shen smiled helplessly and allowed Jiang Yin to answer, “You’ll find out when you watch the drama.”

At that, the hosts nodded. Then, the hostess looked at Jiang Yin again and asked, “Then Jiang Yin, if you break up with your ex-girlfriend, would you not be able to forget her?”

When the camera was aimed at Jiang Yin, the latter pondered for a bit before he looked at Su Shen subconsciously. The latter sat on the stool beside him expressionlessly. She didn’t know why he looked at her. They had never been together.

“I belong to the kind that looks forward. Since I’ve decided to break up, I won’t linger on it, unless it’s an unrequited love.”

As soon as Jiang Yin finished his words, the audience exploded again. Countless fans were crying out loud, and the hosts also exclaimed with a nod. “You’re so good-looking. Why don’t you confess?”

Su Shen changed into another position and was expressionless.

In the face of the host’s question, Jiang Yin just smiled and said, “Sometimes, not just being good-looking is useful.”

“AHHHHHHH!” The fans below were shouting crazily again.

“It sounds like there’s a story.” The host laughed, but he didn’t pry further. Instead, he looked at Zhu Qinqin and asked, “Then Qin Qin, would you be sad over a breakup?”

Seeing that the camera was finally on her, Zhu Qinqin changed to a more ladylike sitting position and covered her face with her hand, pretending to be shy. “I never had a boyfriend.”

    Su Shen: “…….”

She covered her mouth with her hand and almost laughed.

“Has no one pursued you in school then?” The host continued to ask.

At that, Zhu Qinqin blinked her eyes innocently and said into the mic, “At that time, my parents didn’t allow me to date. I’m rather obedient, so I have never had a boyfriend.”

Su Shen pursed her lips even though she wanted to laugh.

Zhu Qinqin went the innocent campus belle route, so these statements matched her image.

Fortunately, the host didn’t care about the truthfulness of her responses. He then placed his sight on Su Shen, “Then Su Shen, would you be sad over a breakup?”

When the camera was aimed at her face, Su Shen pondered for a bit before saying into the mic, “I won’t break up easily. Since I’ve decided to be together with someone, I will slowly learn how to manage the relationship, unless there’s something that is really intolerable. But if that day really came, I may have already given up on him and wouldn’t be sad over it.”

“Are you the more active one in a relationship then?” The male gave her a meaningful smile.

The fact that she was with Xie Yan was not a big secret in the industry. Su Shen knew what the host was referring to, but she just smiled and answered truthfully, “I’m the more passive one. I’ve almost never taken the initiative.”

It was because Xie Yan was too proactive. He completely seized the initiative between them.

“Then in this kind of situation, it’s mostly the man who’s more overbearing. Would you often quarrel with each other?” The host continued to ask curiously.

    Quarrel?

After pondering for a bit, Su Shen was somewhat embarrassed and said into the mic, “We seemed to have never quarreled. He never lost his temper with me nor was he too overbearing. Contrarily, he’s very respectful of me. If I had a different opinion than him, he would listen to me. However, we haven’t contacted each other for a long time.”

Seeing that she added emphasis on the last sentence, the hosts laughed meaningfully. “What a pity. He sounds like the best boyfriend of the century.”

At that, Jiang Yin, who was beside her, couldn’t help but glance at her. Su Shen just smiled and said nothing. Recalling it now, Xie Yan was indeed very good to her, but she was still very passive.

“We all know that you can play the guzheng. Can you show us a bit?” The host asked.

Su Shen naturally nodded and said, “Okay.”

After everyone walked to one side, the staff immediately brought a guzheng onto the stage. After Su Shen sat down, she then slowly put on the fake nails. After the camera was adjusted to aim at her, she then slowly began to pluck the strings.

The hostess squatted beside it and aimed the mic in front of the strings to magnify the sounds. As Su Shen plucked the strings, everyone noticed that this was a song that they had never heard of, but it held an inexplicable oriental nostalgia.

This was a piece of a music score that her master had taught her. It was said that it was composed by a favored concubine of the previous dynasty. At that time, the favored concubine was very favored by the Emperor, but everyone said that she was a femme fatale and brought ruin to the country. The favored concubine then disappeared. Some said that she had died in the well of the Cold Palace, and so, the previous dynasty was destroyed due to the incompetence of the weak Emperor. There was only the first part of the music score remaining with the second part missing.

Without any accompaniment, there was only the sound of the strings clanging, producing a poignant and beautiful melody. The woman looked down slightly, her side profile exquisite. Her eyes were slightly open, and her slender fingers moving along the strings. Her focused gaze seemed to only contain the guzheng.

As soon as Su Shen finished playing, she looked up at the hostess beside her and said with a smile, “I forgot the remaining part.”

“No, no, no, it was great.” The hostess immediately shook her head. “I didn’t go to school much, and I can only say that it sounded great.”

Everyone else also burst into laughter. There was also a warm round of applause from the audience. The host also exclaimed, “Before, our director said that you weren’t confident in yourself, so we were thinking of adding BGM later on. But with this, you’re slapping our production team in the face!”

Although they couldn’t hear what techniques were used, they could still sense the tempo. The tempo and tuning of the song were basically integrated into one with not a hint of abruptness at all.

“When the director asked me about it before, I was hesitant because I’ve forgotten many music scores, so I had to practice at the last minute.” Su Shen explained with a smile.

Actually, she didn’t want to play it at first because she was afraid of being suspected. But on second thought, she didn’t have to hide. Even if others suspected her, she could say that she was just innately talented.

After the performance, the variety show set up some small games. After finishing recording, it was already 10:00 pm. Jiang Yin offered to drive her, but Su Shen declined saying she had a chauffeur.

After returning to her condo, she told Liu jie about the later part of the variety show and hoped that the production team would not cut randomly and make her and Jiang Yin into a cp.

For the following while, there were only a few engagements. Meanwhile, Su Shen delved into the script of the Republican era movie. This was an opportunity for her; whether she could enter the mainstream film industry depended on this. Xie Yan could provide her with connections and opportunities, but it couldn’t change the way those directors saw her.

Xie Yan came back on the 8th, but Su Shen didn’t go see him because the award ceremony was on the 9th. This time, Li Hao was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, Xie Yan for Best Actor, and she was nominated for Best Newcomer. Frankly, she didn’t think that Xie Yan could win the Best Actor award because the script was not the best. The other actors that were nominated for the award were either of a literary, commercial, or action movie. It was hard for historical war films to ever win an award.

On the 9th, Liu jie brought her a light sage green fluffy dress. She had to slightly lift the dress up to walk. This kind of dress was very inconvenient, but it was already a lot better than those that bore the chest and back.

“You have to go on set on the 12th, so I already declined the rest of your engagements for the next few days. You can be stuck together with Xie Yan,” said Liu jie, sitting in front.

Sitting in the rear, Su Shen just blinked her eyes and coughed upon hearing that before she looked out the window, saying nothing.

“By the way, the producer for the drama of you and Xie Yan intends for you guys to do a couple’s OST duet. What do you think?” Liu jie asked suddenly.

    Su Shen: “……”

    A couple’s duet?

She wanted to laugh upon hearing that. Even if she was beaten to death, she didn’t believe that Xie Yan would go sing.

“Even I haven’t heard him sing before and it’s unnecessary. He can just sing for me only,” said Su Shen indifferently.

    Liu jie: “…….”

Turning around and glancing at Su Shen, she suddenly found that the two of them were getting more and more lovey-dovey despite meeting each other only a few times recently.

When the car stopped outside of the red carpet, there were already many cars parked outside. Some artists were queuing up to walk the red carpet. This time, they also walked together as a cast and were rather toward the end too.

Currently, the weather was not that cold. Putting on a thin coat, Su Shen followed Xiao Zhou to the commercial SUV for the cast. As soon as the door opened, the inside was full of people. Li Hao, Wang Cheng, and the others were already there.

Seeing her coming, Li Hao immediately moved to the front and said with a smile, “I won’t be third wheeling.”

At that, Wang Cheng, who was at the side, couldn’t help laughing. Su Shen blushed. When she was about to get in the car, Xie Yan, who was inside, immediately reached out to hold her arm and helped her in.

In the back, Fan Meng still had a long face and looked at Su Shen with scorn.

After sitting down, Su Shen took off her high heels. This pair of heels would cause blisters if she wore them for a long time, but if she put on some band-aids, they would be caught in the photos.

“Not cold?” Xie Yan glanced at her bare feet.

Su Shen pulled her coat closer and then lifted up the hem of her gown, revealing a pair of fleece leggings. “Look, I’m wearing another one inside.”

Seeing that the people in front also turned around, Xie Yan immediately pulled down the hem of her dress and held her slender wrist, frowning before saying, “You didn’t eat well again?”

The people in front were exasperated. Being lovey-dovey every day, don’t they ever consider their feelings

“I… didn’t lose weight. You’re delusioning. I clearly gained a pound.” Su Shen glanced at him from the corner of her eye and pursed her lips.

Glancing at her, Xie Yan took off his suit jacket and placed it on her legs. He then caressed her head, “But, I’m thinner. Do you want to replenish me?”

    Su Shen: “…….”

    She blushed and stopped talking.

Looking at the two of them being lovey-dovey as if no one was around, Wang Cheng, who was in the front, couldn’t help but interjected, “Right, right, right, Su Shen, if you’re gonna cook today, you wouldn’t mind Li Hao and me freeloading a dinner, right?”

At that, Xie Yan glanced at him insipidly and said without changing his expression. “No can do.”
