I Am A Matchmaker On Taobao Chapter 7

Shen Chuchu shivered at Xinming’s enthusiastic voice and replied, “I’m at home right now. What is it, Ming-ge? Is something up?”

Xinming responded in an overly enthusiastic tone she had never heard before, “Of course there is! It’s something huge! I am coming over to pick you up. The company actually made a mistake on the Han Group contract, it should have been a 7:3 split.”

Shen Chuchu could not believe her ears. He was still willing to give her a chance after that fierce fight? Could it be that her manager was a masochist and liked it when she was fierce?

Could there be something that she was not aware of?

When she went inside Xinming’s car, his attitude had completely changed from the last time they met. He was gesturing with his fingers and said, “Chuchu, you really got to thank me for this time. It is only because I talked with the company that we managed to keep you as the Han Group’s representative.”

Xinming watched Shen Chuchu walk out without a hint of remorse. He picked up the contract and threw it to the ground. Did she really think that the company would be unable to carry on without her? Who does she think she is? She wants to become famous but refuses to bend the rules? Only in her dreams!

On that thought, Xinming took out his phone and decided to call over an actress who was far more pretty and obedient.

As expected, she was even willing to do it for free when she heard that it was an advertisement from the Han Group.

As he hung up the phone, Xinming had a thought. Now, this was the right path for a star to begin! Ignorant people like Shen Chuchu could forget about their careers in the entertainment industry.

It wasn’t until Shen Chuchu was hit by a cold gust of wind as she walked out the door that she realized what a stupid thing she had just done. Although she had argued with her manager before, she had never had the guts to escalate it further like that. She felt sure that this time she had completely and utterly offended him.

There were a lot of companies who would use a myriad of ways to pressure their actors. She even remembered that when she signed the initial contract with Mei Jia there was a phrase which said ‘except in special circumstances’. Although the company breached the contract and was at fault, there was nothing she could do.

She could only blame herself for being too enticed by the prospect of being a famous star when she left school three months ago.  Even when she felt that something was not right, she still signed the contract without a second thought.

As she looked up at the company name “Mei Jia Entertainment”, Shen Chuchu’s feelings became more complicated.

Shen Chuchu’s company was called Mei Jia Entertainment. Though it wasn’t the largest in the industry, it still had a good bit of prestige to its name. Shen Chuchu had at the very least heard of the company before. If she didn’t, she would never have joined them in the first place.

However, after signing in with the company, Shen Chuchu realized that there were more than a few problems with it. It wasn’t hard for her to understand why the company’s reputation was ambiguous.

At 9:30 am, she arrived at the company’s headquarters and hurried straight towards the elevators. Two people were quietly chatting there, but as soon as Shen Chuchu walked over, they grew silent and focused their attention on her.

Shen Chuchu recognised one of them as Li Yutao, who was the company’s popular idol. He was a trainee who debuted abroad and then signed with Mei Jia when he came back after two years. Not long after he signed, he released an EP* and one of his songs blew up, becoming one of the top ten in last year’s Golden Melody list. Though he could not be compared to the top trending artists, he was fairly accomplished in his own generation of singers. She also heard that he was going to venture into the film industry to develop his career, now that he had successfully made it as a singer.

She looked at the comments first. The one at the top was the comment she had replied to yesterday. Right now, it had over 300 likes and more than a hundred comments below. There was also a reply from “Tiny Workplace Newbie”: OP, I can’t believe it! You really are a fortune-teller. Last night, I asked him and we’re together now. [Excitement]

Upon seeing this reply, Shen Chuchu finally felt relief. It seemed that she had not destroyed her trademark when she appeared as a “fake quack” for the very first time. She scrolled through the comments on Weibo and found that a lot of people were curious about their own marital status.

“If OP really is Yue Lao, please gift me a handsome husband! [Photograph]”

“Pick me, pick me! Please tell me quickly if my boyfriend will be my future husband! If he isn’t, I’m going to break up with him. [Photograph]”

“Need a wife. I’m already 30 years old and still single. [Photograph]”

Shen Chuchu almost spat out blood when she saw that her acting skill was only at 19 points when the actual full score was 100. Didn’t that mean her pitiful acting skills have become even more pitiful? How was she supposed to mingle in the entertainment industry with a score like this? She didn’t look bad by any means but how would she manage to get her name out there when she had neither the background nor the skills? The entertainment industry had no shortage of good-looking individuals!

Also, how would she increase the fate value anyways? She felt that the introduction was unclear on this part.

She remembered that the system would previously pop up whenever she thought of a question in her head. She reasoned that it must be an extremely intelligent system so she decided to ask it a question in her mind. However, the system gave no response at all. Perhaps the question she asked was too complicated? She thus thought of an easy question such as who gave her this system. The system remained unresponsive. After a few more questions, she understood that it would not answer her.

She felt disappointed by this revelation but still found the system very interesting and wanted to continue exploring it. But after the car accident, the hospital visit and then this system all in one day, she felt that her mind was messed up as it is. As she thought about how to go about helping people with marital issues, she slowly drifted off to sleep.

The sun had long since risen by the time she woke up the next day.

Shen Chuchu stared at the ceiling and thought, did she have to change her profession and open a matchmaker agency now? If she didn’t complete the tasks given to her, her acting skills would continue to plummet. At this rate, she wouldn’t be able to be an actress anymore. But she couldn’t just ask people on the street if they have any marital problems. What could she do?

Before Shen Chuchu had time to open the “Red Thread of Fate” tab, she heard the nurse speak to her, “Alright, I’ve taken the needle out. Please use your fingers to apply pressure to the area.”

When Shen Chuchu saw the nurse start to tidy up, she couldn’t help but inquire about what she saw on the virtual display page, “Excuse me, but are you getting married soon?” Today was January the 7th, while the day after tomorrow was January the 9th. If what she saw was true then the nurse would be getting married the day after tomorrow.

Or perhaps what she saw was just an illusion?

The nurse smiled with a look of happiness and shyly replied. “Yes, my boyfriend and I are going to get our marriage certificate the day after tomorrow.”

The nurse’s words stunned Shen Chuchu. Perhaps what she saw was not just in her head but was actually real? While the nurse lowered her head to tidy up, Shen Chuchu touched the small pink heart again. It was exactly the same as before.

“How did you know that I was about to get married?” The nurse inquired.

Although Shen Chuchu was still in shock, she opened her mouth and lied: “I overheard it from another nurse.”

Their marriage was no longer a secret at the nurse station, the nurse reasoned to herself. She nodded her head and replied. “Ah, is that so.”

Shen Chuchu watched the nurse stand up and then walked past the virtual display screen without any hesitation. The nurse still seemed completely unaware of the virtual display screen despite the fact that it was just right in front of her eyes.

Shen Chuchu held back her shock and tried to keep as calm as possible: “I wish you happiness.”

The nurse smiled, said thanks then turned and left.

I Am A Matchmaker On Taobao Chapter 1

    Hello! Sky here 🙂

I am happy to announce a new novel that I’ve helped to translate called I Am A Matchmaker On Taobao

At seven o’clock at night, Shen Chuchu, whose stomach was rumbling with hunger, was about to leave her house for dinner.

As an 18th tier actor, Shen Chuchu felt that she had really diminished the word “actor”. They say that acting is the fastest career in making money, but she felt that it was the fastest career in spending money instead.

After debuting for three months, she had shot two advertisements in total and only earned thirteen thousand yuan* of hard-earned salary. Four thousand of that was spent on cosmetics, another six thousand on rent, while the remaining three thousand was spent on clothes and food.

*TL-note: Yuan is widely used to refer to the Chinese currency “renminbi”. One dollar is about six to seven yuan. Eighteen thousand yuan is equivalent to just under two thousand USD.

She looked down at her shrivelled wallet and counted her money again. A total of twenty-three yuan! It was her lucky number! This was great, she could go out and eat some spicy hotpot. As for tomorrow……she would figure it out then!

She took her wallet and walked out of the apartment.

After walking down two streets, she could finally see the shadow of the spicy hotpot shop. Currently, Shen Chuchu was hungry to the point of dizziness. As she looked across the street, there were still three seconds remaining until the green light. She glanced left and right to check for cars, and started to hurry across.

She could practically see the spicy hotpot waving at her. But just as Shen Chuchu was about to reach the shop, a ray of dazzling light followed by an ear-piercing sound of brakes causing her to suddenly freeze on the spot. She never clearly saw who the driver was, but she did feel a ray of red light shine over her. The next second, she let out an “Ah!” and lost consciousness…
