“No…um, no. You’ve misunderstood. We only live on the same floor and sometimes bump into each other.” Shen Chuchu nervously explained to her neighbour and then hurried inside the elevator.
While the neighbour stared at Shen Chuchu’s back and wondered whether she had been mistaken? She clearly saw them hugging that day. Anyways it was none of her business and she rushed to go plaza dancing*.
*TL-note: square dancing or plaza dancing, is an exercise routine performed to music in squares, plazas or parks’ of the nation’s cities. It is popular with middle-aged and retired women referred to as “dancing grannies” in the English-language media.
Although this was a little incident, it served as a warning to Shen Chuchu, and she decided to be more cautious in the future.
That night when Han Xingyan knocked on her door, Shen Chuchu was extra careful and only let him in once she was sure that nobody was around.
Han Xingyan asked in confusion, “What is it?”
Shen Chuchu nervously replied, “I was recognised by a neighbour today and they seem to have figured out our relationship. I’m scared of the paparazzi.”
Han Xingyan looked down, stroked her hair and smiled, “Don’t worry, nobody will say anything.” After all, this was a high-end residential area where some other celebrities and industry elites stay. The level of sophistication was still intact.
Shen Chuchu frowned, “Really? Then how did the news of you and Qin Yingran get out?”
Han Xingyan’s movements paused, then he replied, “She probably bribed some reporter or had someone take a photo.”
Shen Chuchu’s eyes widened. So what Chen Xili said was true. This was the first time she had seen this in the circle so her heart shook a little. She had only heard that many celebrities bought paparazzi in order to create headlines for themselves in the past, but this time she was confronted with it personally, and her attitude was completely different.
“Qin Yingran did that just to get on the news with you?” Shen Chuchu curiously asked. She then thought of another point and asked worriedly, “Will she buy reporters to take pictures of us?”
Han Xingyan gently kissed her forehead and replied, “Don’t worry. The owner has made a complaint and she is moving out of our neighbourhood.”
Shen Chuchu suspiciously asked, “Is that so; but how do you know about it?”
Naturally, I was one of the complainers and the driving force.
“Have you forgotten? I’m friends with the developer of the real estate.”
Oh yeah, my boyfriend is nouveau riche.
The next day, Shen Chuchu started shooting. The film Chen Xili mentioned before was about to begin filming and Shen Chuchu playing the heroine will have to make an appearance on the first day of shooting. This was her first time playing a female lead, and she was both nervous and excited.
The film was called [Princess Jialing], and it tells the story of the emperor’s youngest princess breaking free from the palace’s cage and causing chaos in all corners of the country. In the circle, the male protagonist was a highly masculine male celebrity. When people saw him, they often used the term “walking hormone” to describe him. Furthermore, his name, Chen Shenggang*, was a perfect match for his personality.
*TL-note: Sheng (胜) means victory and gang (刚) means hard or strong.
On the day of the opening ceremony, there were few fans and most of them belonged to Shen Chuchu. Logically speaking, with Chen Shenggang’s acting abilities and looks, a big number of female fans should be easy to attract. It was only that Chen Shenggang’s main career was not filming. His more well-known career was modelling. He was a well-known supermodel who has graced the pages of major publications around the world and was a favourite of the bog magazine covers. He was way posher than all other models.
Despite Chen Shenggang’s strong worldwide profile, he was relatively unknown. After all, everyone worshipped stars from movies, tv-series, variety shows and singers. Not many people paid attention to the other occupations.
On the first day, Shen Chuchu was struck by Chen Shenggang’s personal charm. He was handsome and had a sophisticated appearance. His acting was also excellent. It was truly a shame that he did not focus on acting.
Shen Chuchu’s acting ability has nearly reached 70 after a period of matchmaking, company training, and filming. After reaching 60, Shen Chuchu noticed the number of NG*s she received had decreased and became more aware of her actions. And there was a growing sense that something big was going to happen. As a result, her approach to filming grew more serious.
*TL-note: In TV/Film/Commercial production in Taiwan(ASIA). People often say NG as NO GOOD or NOT GOOD.
After today’s shoot, Shen Chuchu felt relaxed from head to toe and even fired up.
Chen Shenggang’s impression of Shen Chuchu was also very good. Cai Jie, the manager, noticed his calm expression and asked, “How was the actress? From the looks of it, she’s been captured by you. A-Chen*, your charm is boundless.”
*TL-note: A(阿) prefix is used before monosyllabic names, kinship terms etc to indicate familiarity.
Chen Shenggang glanced in the direction of Shen Chuchu and shook his head, “The little girl’s acting is not bad. It’s better than most newbies. After all, she is from Diandi Media and did not disappoint. As for being captured, I won’t go that far.”
Cai Jie burst out a laugh and replied, “You are calling her a little girl when you are not much older than her. Is this an act to become her senior?”
Chen Shenggang smiled but did not say anything.
However, Cai Jie promptly warned, “I’m going to say it again. Your position in the model world is still not stable. For the time being, it is not appropriate to fall in love. You must not jeopardise your future. Even though the modelling industry is not as sensitive as the entertainment industry, falling in love will undoubtedly put your career on hold. Once everything is set in stone, you can date whomever you want. On this subject, we are quite relaxed.”
Chen Shenggang nooded to Cai Jie’s banal comments.
The first day of filming was today, and a lot of publicity was still required. Shen Chuchu and Chen Shenggang cooperated with the photographer and took some group photos. Shen Chuchu’s height of 1.65 metres paled in comparison to Chen Shenggang’s 1.95.

Shen Chuchu saw the Weibo post and also reposted it.

Although Cai Jie told Chen Shenggang not to date, he still had to join and promote. So Chen Shenggang also reposted Shen Chuchu’s Weibo.

Han Xingyan, who had notifications set on Shen Chuchu’s Weibo, instantly clicked in when he got the alert. His gorgeous eyebrows furrowed as he looked at the photo of his girlfriend smiling and taking photos with another male celebrity.
When Secretary Wang came in, he felt as if the air pressure had dropped. He did not know what was bothering his boss but as a considerate secretary, he would not run into the muzzle of the gun. He gently placed the documents down on the desk and started to leave. However, his boss looked away from his phone and glanced up at him and asked a question with some hesitation.
“Am I very short?”
Secretary Wang was immune to his own boss’s unusual questions. He said with great confidence after pondering over it in his brain, “Certainly not. Your height is perfect. 183cm is a popular height among females on the internet.”
Han Xingyan’s expression eased and nodded, “Okay, send me the link.”
Secretary Wang’s face froze but before Han Xingyan asked again, he quickly replied, “Okay, Boss. I will go and search for it online.”
Han Xingyan nodded with satisfaction, “Okay, go ahead.”
To be honest, Secretary Wang’s remarks were a pile of complete rubbish. He had seen a lot of news, but he could not recall ever seeing something like this. He promptly searched the Internet after leaving. He has pondered it, if no such statement exists, he will make one up today. Fortunately, he did find a few, which was truly a blessing in disguise.
Han Xingyan glanced over the link Secretary Wang sent over and forwarded it to Shen Chuchu. Upon receiving the link, Shen Chuchu was stumped and could not figure out the reason for this link. She still could not understand after reading the contents inside and replied with a confused expression.
Han Xingyan thought about it and replied: What do you think about 183?
Shen Chuchu did not understand why he kept mentioning 183 but replied: I feel this height is very good. For a guy, everything above 180 is very good.
Han Xingyan: Oh, even two metres?
Shen Chuchu seriously considered this question and replied: Two metres is not good. Anything above 185 is too tall. Majority of girls like something around 180.
Han Xingyan saw the message and smiled happily at his phone.
Afterwards, Shen Chuchu finally realised what Han Xingyan was saying. Perhaps…he was 183? At this thought, she did not ask him directly but went on Wikipedia. And sure enough, the height was written: 183cm. She immediately understood everything after thinking about the Weibo she posted earlier today.
In her heart, she described him as “childish.”
After a few days of filming, Shen Chuchu and Chen Shenggang became acquainted with each other. While waiting for the filming to start, they sat together and discussed the script book.
On this day, Chen Shenggang went to film first while Shen Chuchu sat and read the script and waited for the set manager to notify her.
Cai Jie saw that Shen Chuchu was sitting alone and went over, “Chuchu, did you sleep well last night?”
Shen Chuchu saw that it was Chen Shenggang’s manager and smiled, “It was good. The mountains and rivers are beautiful and it is cleaner than the city.”
Cai Jie smiled, “Yes, the air is good. Oh yeah, what do you think of A-Chen?”
Shen Chuchu replied without much thought, “Xiao Gang-ge is really good at acting. Even the director praised him. He practically only needed one cut for all his lines and there were not many NGs.”
Cai Jie relaxed when she noticed that Shen Chuchu did not dodge eye contact and knew that she was telling the truth.
“Really! I see that the director is also regularly praising you too. I’d say that you have a promising future ahead when your acting skills are already this good.”
Shen Chuchu humbly replied, “Cai-jie, you flatter me.”
Shen Chuchu was soon summoned to the set by the set manager. Today there was a fight scene that required instruction from the wire* and martial arts instructors and a lot of NGs to pass.
*TL-note: Dang Wei Ya (吊威亚) is the wire stunt technique in television and film shootings.
Shen Chuchu was too exhausted to speak after the shoot. She rested on the chair and slowly felt a little better. Chen Shenggang went about his life as normal, playing games on his phone. He smiled as he noticed Shen Chuchu sitting up and raised his head to look at her in between games, “You’ve never been on the wire before? Don’t worry, it will get better after a few more.”
Shen Chuchu felt a bit gloomy upon hearing this as she thought about all the fight scenes to come.
“Thank you, I feel even more tired now.”
Chen Shenggang burst out with a laugh.
Shen Chuchu took the water Wang Qian brought over and looked around. As a result, she saw Cai-jie talking and joking with a man not far away. The man seemed unfamiliar and did not seem to be any of the workers she had seen these past few days. She took a few more glances out of curiosity.
Chen Shenggang looked at Shen Chuchu’s gaze and happily explained after his game, “That’s Wang-ge from outside the circle, Cai-Jie’s boyfriend. They are about to get married soon.”
Shen Chuchu’s eyes widened and looked at Chen Shenggang in disbelief. She asked in a strange tone, “That man is marrying Cai-jie? Are you sure?”
Chen Shenggang did not understand why Shen Chuchu was questioning him in that kind of tone but confidently nodded, “Yes, they’ve been dating for half a year. Even their wedding date is set. Though it hasn’t been made public yet so don’t tell anyone.”
Shen Chuchu’s face sank when she looked at Chen Shenggang who did not appear to be lying. She then moved her head to gaze at the two individuals talking and laughing not far away. She could now see further and further thanks to the system upgrade. It’s a lot more than three metres from the start.
After three seconds, the man’s heart on his head appeared again. Shen Chuchu realised she was correct, the heart on the man’s head was red. To put it another way, the man who was about to marry Cai-jie was already married.
