Chapter 43: Decided to Love (3)
Since you like it, you should live up to this hope. Even if you failed, it would just be a matter of trying again.
When he came back to focus, a low laughter had already spread throughout the room. All the anger from before was gone, disappearing into her eyes.
It was such a simple reason, and yet he hadn’t been able to see it. Even his little waitress saw through it. Ever since he was born, he had been on top of everything. If he wanted to do something, he could do it and nothing was impossible. But in the end, he hadn’t been able to cross this tiny obstacle.
She silently rubbed her eyes, unaware that his gaze was locked on her.
Walking towards her, he lowered his body so that they were on the same eye level. She was rubbing her eyes with perhaps a trace of agitation as if she was afraid that someone would see her fear.
Her almost unnoticeable quivering burnt his heart. He sighed quietly and brought her into his arms.
It was such a frail and skinny body. The ache in his heart grew even more apparent.
YouYan was surprised at the sudden closeness.
How could he not notice the stiffness? Patting her back, he softened his voice.
“Did it remind you of your mother?”
She hesitated and a quiet ‘yes’ was heard.
“Yan. How did your mother die?” It wasn’t that he was not a careful person—he knew the question was abrupt and rude, but he still asked. The deep sorrow between her brows made him want to know more about her, even just a little.
He only wanted to smooth out her pain and sorrows, because a prolonged problem like this caused nothing but pain.
As the former head of a large underground gang, his private life wasn’t a mess like many others, but he had definitely gone through quite a few lovers. But just now, he was merely a young teenager, blunt and unreasoning.
He felt her suddenly shudder.
“She died in a road accident.”
He furrowed his brows. Yan, am I still someone you can’t trust?
“Boss, can I sleep now?” She struggled out of his grasp, disheveled.
He nodded lightly and went to get her a blanket.
She hurriedly followed.
“Umm, I can do this.”
He smiled, “I insist.”
Her face flushed red and, not knowing what to say, she looked at him. The corners of his lips curled up into a smile, it was amusing to see her like this.
His little waitress, he couldn’t resist bullying her like this.
“Ok, Yan, good night.” He patted her head. He thought he might have grown addicted to doing this.
She nodded absentmindedly.
“Boss.”
He stopped in his steps and looked back at her.
“It’s nothing, just that—— You’re like Big Brother Chi.” She scratched at her hair while her cheeks blushed pink.
Big Brother Chi?
His smile shrank a little.
“But I don’t want to be Big Brother Chi.”, he replied lightly and closed the door.
He left YouYan behind, in a daze.
