I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 74

Love It Yet Hate It Too

Upon seeing the expression on Aunt Yu’s face, Wen Le knew that she had misunderstood. Looking around at the majority of balding and greasy men in the banquet hall, Wen Le also felt a headache coming on. Who knows how to explain this? But she also couldn’t not explain, could she?

Wen Le gently took Aunt Yu’s hand and whispered, “It’s not… Auntie… he’s my classmate…”

Upon hearing Wen Le’s response, Aunt Yu’s face changed another shade.

At Aunt Yu’s change in expression, Wen Le realised the implication. Handing out such an expensive piece of jewelry… to a same-aged peer? From what she knew, most second-generation individuals wouldn’t casually spend such a large sum of money.

“Lele, this is too valuable, we can’t accept it, can we?” Despite not agreeing with the idea, Aunt Yu still asked Wen Le for her opinion.

Actually, Wen Le also felt it wasn’t appropriate. Previously, when she hadn’t realised the disparity in their financial abilities, it was fine to accept the blue sapphire ring. However, the price of this yellow sapphire had reached a different level. Now that Wen Le understood the difference in their financial standings, her pride and self-respect wouldn’t allow her to accept such an expensive gift until she achieved the same economic status as Zhou Kao.

First, Wen Le reassured Aunt Yu, “Auntie, don’t worry, he has his own projects and company, the money for this yellow sapphire isn’t from his parents. Of course, I won’t accept this sapphire. I’ll talk to him about it later.”

Aunt Yu nodded, “Go talk to him quickly then.”

On the side, Xi Ya’an smiled and said, “Bring your little boyfriend over to show us.”

Wen Le felt a bit embarrassed and glanced at Aunt Yu. Although Aunt Yu didn’t say anything, there was a curious expression on her face.

Wen Le took out her phone and said, “Let me ask him, I don’t know if he’s still here.”

Aunt Yu was still curious about this matter and asked Wen Le in a low voice, “Does your family know about this?”

Wen Le nodded and sent Zhou Kao a message. She then nodded to Aunt Yu and whispered, “My dad and grandpa know, my dad… has even met him.”

Aunt Yu was curious, “Has your father agreed?”

Wen Le whispered, “Dad didn’t object.”

This reaction was quite normal, and Aunt Yu couldn’t discern the attitude of Wen’s family towards this little boyfriend. This only made Aunt Yu more curious about Wen Le’s boyfriend.

Xi Ya’an’s relationship with Aunt Yu didn’t seem like that of ordinary friends; instead, it seemed like they were close old friends. She didn’t avoid talking about this matter when bringing it up.

After sending the message, Wen Le didn’t receive a reply for a while. She put down her phone and said, “He probably has already left.”

Aunt Yu, disappointed at not seeing Wen Le’s little boyfriend, looked a bit regretful.

Xi Ya’an also seemed disappointed, “The banquet has just begun, why leave so early?”

Wen Le explained, “He came to Hong Kong mainly for work this time, so he probably had something to attend to and left early.”

Aunt Yu smiled and said, “Looks like we won’t be able to meet him this time, Lele. Go find an opportunity to return the necklace.”

    Wen Le nodded.

The three of them chatted for a while about gossip in the entertainment industry. Xi Ya’an was a prominent figure in the entertainment industry while Aunt Yu was the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine, holding a vast amount of resources and half-immersed in the entertainment circle. Therefore, when these two chatted about gossip, it was practically equivalent to revealing insider information on the spot.

As they discussed the recent secret romance between a top male star and an obscure actress, they saw Qu Manyu and the other from earlier, and another A-list actress, Qi Fu, walking over. The two were famous for being best friends in the spotlight, often seen together, but allegedly fierce competitors behind the scenes for resources.

Qu Manyu had two people with her, while Qi Fu had a mixed-race model recently signed to her studio. The five of them walked over to the three.

Qu Manyu smiled and said to Yu Wangshu, “Just now I was telling Fu Zi that I saw Sister Wangshu, and she didn’t believe me. Now, just as I turn around, here you are.”

Qi Fu was pleasantly surprised and hugged Yu Wangshu, “It really is you, Sister Wangshu! I thought Qu Manyu was tricking me again.”

Yu Wangshu smiled and exchanged pleasantries with them for a while, and even Xi Ya’an, who was standing nearby, had to join in.

Xi Ya’an status was much higher than these few celebrities, and she was too lazy to engage in pleasantries with them. Just as she was thinking of finding an excuse to leave, she suddenly heard a male voice call out, “Wen Le.”

She looked up and saw Wen Le turning around in surprise, so she followed suit. To her astonishment, she saw an exceedingly handsome young man with exceptional features and an overly perfect figure.

To be honest, after spending so many years in the entertainment industry, Xi Ya’an had seen all kinds of faces. However, when she saw this young man, she was still amazed. Simply put, this young man was a top-tier beauty even in the entertainment circle.

    But…

Why does this young man seem somewhat familiar…

When Zhou Kao arrived, he attracted the attention of all the women around him. Just as Qu Manyu and Qi Fu were chatting with Wangshu, they fell silent. The young women by their side couldn’t take their eyes off Zhou Kao after seeing him, their eyes sparkling with admiration, never leaving Zhou Kao’s body.

However, since arriving, this handsome young man’s gaze had been glued to Wen Le, not even sparing a glance at the various beautiful women around him.

Aunt Yu was also stunned when she saw Zhou Kao, then glanced at Wen Le, recalling Wen Le’s previous mention of her boyfriend, guessing that this was probably him.

Even with Aunt Yu’s discerning eye, a hint of satisfaction leaked into her gaze when she looked at Zhou Kao.

Ignoring other aspects for now, Zhou Kao’s appearance and temperament alone didn’t lose out to Wen Le. Standing together, they looked like a match made in heaven, truly pleasing to the eye.

Upon seeing Zhou Kao, Wen Le’s gaze was tightly locked onto his, and before she forgot the occasion, she quickly realised and introduced him to Auntie.

    “Auntie, this is Zhou Kao.”

“Zhou Kao, this is Aunt Yu,” Wen Le introduced.

Zhou Kao nodded and greeted Aunt Yu politely.

Aunt Yu, who was still chatting with Qu Manyu and Qi Fu, said her goodbyes and excused herself so that she, Wen Le, and Zhou Kao could move to the side for a private conversation.

Xi Ya’an, being tactful, didn’t approach them. She watched Zhou Kao, still racking her brain, feeling like she had seen this guy somewhere before.

Suddenly, Qi Fu exclaimed, “I remember now! I’ve seen this person before.”

Qu Manyu, who had just arrived and didn’t understand what was going on, asked, “Who is this guy? He looks quite young.”

Qi Fu explained, “You know about the collaboration with Penpoint on my end, right? I happened to visit Penpoint’s company last time, and I saw this guy there.”

Hearing Qi Fu mention the collaboration with Penpoint, Qu Manyu felt a pang of jealousy. Qi Fu had always been pressuring her in business matters. Reluctantly, she asked, “Oh, what’s his collaboration with Penpoint about?”

Qi Fu seemed genuinely shocked as she said, “No, this guy is the big boss of Penpoint.”

Qu Manyu sneered, “What? Isn’t the big boss of Penpoint a thirty-something elite man? Although he looks handsome too, isn’t this guy too young?”

Qi Fu shook her head and said, “No, the one people talk about outside is actually the vice president. This young man is the real big boss. My assistant heard it from the employees of their company themselves.”

Qu Manyu was also surprised by this revelation. “Wow, that’s impressive. A young man with a net worth of over a hundred million.”

Listening to Qu Manyu’s casual understatement, Xi Ya’an couldn’t help but chuckle. She sipped her red wine elegantly and sighed softly, “The heir carefully cultivated by the Zhou family in Beijing, of course, is promising at such a young age.”

Xi Ya’an married into a wealthy family at the age of thirty-two, which was considered a good match in the entertainment industry. However, her husband’s family was only a second-rate family in the upper class. The Zhou family was definitely the top-tier aristocracy in the upper class, and their influence and power couldn’t be summarised by surface-level data alone.

She had occasionally glimpsed this young master at various events with her husband. Despite his young age, he was surrounded by compliments and flattery from the crowd, yet he remained unperturbed.

After speaking, Xi Ya’an left on her own, leaving Qu Manyu and Qi Fu with wide eyes.

How could they, who were ambitious and wanted to mingle in the upper class, not know about the Zhou family?

Why did Qu Manyu, with so many suitors, remain single? It was because these suitors only hovered on the edge of the upper class, while Qu Manyu dreamed of climbing higher. Unfortunately, she had never been able to reach the higher echelons of society. And now, they were told that this young man was at the pinnacle of the pyramid they dreamed of squeezing into?

Aunt Yu didn’t say much to the two of them and left, giving Wen Le and Zhou Kao plenty of space.

Wen Le took off the necklace from her neck and handed it to Zhou Kao.

Zhou Kao didn’t take it. He was a bit displeased and spoke coldly, “You don’t like it? Or do you want to return it to me?”

Wen Le shook her head. “I like it, and I didn’t ask you to return it.”

Zhou Kao raised an eyebrow, looking at Wen Le without saying anything.

Wen Le cleared her throat and said, “Well, you see, my family’s safe is full, and there’s no place to put it. So, could you help me keep it for now? When I make enough money to buy a safe, you can give it back to me.”

Zhou Kao chuckled, “That’s the most ridiculous reason I’ve ever heard.”

Would anyone refuse jewelry because they didn’t have a safe?

Wen Le grabbed Zhou Kao’s hand. “It’s not that I don’t want it. Could you please hold onto it for me for now? I’ll be checking on it regularly.”

Zhou Kao understood Wen Le well. It was probably her competitive nature acting up again. She was such a determined person, probably still concerned about her financial status.

Zhou Kao loved and hated Wen Le for being like this.

But Zhou Kao didn’t insist. Instead, he took the necklace Wen Le handed over without urging her to take it back. He didn’t want to add any more pressure on Wen Le, so he could only indulge and helplessly flick Wen Le’s nose. “I really don’t know what to do with you .”

Wen Le gently shook Zhou Kao’s hand, her smile bright and confident. “Trust me, I’ll be able to buy a safe soon and retrieve the yellow sapphire.”

Zhou Kao chuckled helplessly. “Is my girlfriend a superhero? How can she be so amazing?”

Wen Le blushed and lowered her head. “It’s mainly because my boyfriend is too outstanding.”

I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 73

    Yellow Sapphire

    “Boyfriend?”

Grandfather stared at Wen Le and blew out his beard, looking somewhat annoyed.

Wen Le hesitated for a moment and whispered, “Am I…am I not allowed?”

Grandfather stiffened his neck and didn’t say anything. It’s not that it isn’t allowed, but there is a sense of frustration like his precious cabbage has been snatched by a pig. It is hard for anyone to be happy about it.

After a while, Grandfather snorted and asked with a touch of pride, “What… is he like?”

Wen Le smiled, didn’t praise Zhou Kao much, just casually said, “He’s okay, we get along well.”

Such a plain, rational, and restrained answer seemed to convince the elders more. Perhaps no elder wanted to see their beloved child being led astray by another child.

Grandfather’s expression relaxed a bit at Wen Le’s words, not wanting to ask more, waved his hand. “Alright, go find your grandmother.”

Wen Le smiled and ran off to talk to her grandmother.

Turning around, Wen Bingqiu called Wen Tianqi to the study.

“Dad, you wanted to see me?”

Wen Bingqiu asked, “Lele has a boyfriend?”

Wen Tianqi was first surprised, then nodded, “Did Lele tell you?”

Wen Bingqiu snorted, sitting down on the sofa.

Wen Tianqi said, “In our situation, I actually still think it’s a burden…”

After the holidays, while Zhou Kao was not busy, Wen Le became busy. Zhou Kao called Wen Le, but she either answered the phone in a hurry or didn’t have time to pick it up.

Zhou Kao didn’t understand what Wen Le was doing. Wen Le said, “I’m improving my economic status.”

    “What?”

“You’ll see when school starts,” Wen Le said mysteriously, refusing to say more and abruptly changing the subject, “Was it your family that sent a New Year’s gift to ours the other day?”

Zhou Kao smiled and said, “You saw it.”

Wen Le laughed, “It wasn’t that I saw it, it’s mainly because of my dad…”

Thinking about the scene that day, Wen Le couldn’t help but laugh.

The butler brought the list of New Year’s gifts, Wen Tianqi took a look, suddenly furious, pointed to one item, and said, “Who allowed the Zhou family to send us a New Year’s gift?”

Wen Tianqi became angrier as he spoke, then threw the list directly onto the table.

Grandfather walked over from the side and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Wen Tianqi said, “The Zhou family sent us a New Year’s gift.”

The butler hesitated and asked, “Should we send one back?”

    Wen Tianqi didn’t say anything.

Grandfather said, “If we send one back, it should be just a regular gift.”

Father Wen was angry, “The matter with the child hasn’t even begun, and you’re so proactive.”

Grandfather said, “Even if it’s not about the child, the two families have known each other for so many years. Sending a gift is not unreasonable. Besides, this year is different from previous years. In the past, not sending a New Year’s gift meant no contact. Now that you’re back in the capital, if they still don’t send one, it wouldn’t be appropriate.”

Wen Tianqi snorted coldly, “That’s just what it seems like. But I don’t know Zhou Chengyun yet, he’s full of tricks. He might be thinking about Lele.”

With a smirk, Wen Tianqi added, “It’s not so easy for the Zhou family’s child to enter our family.”

Wen Le was busy with her own affairs, busy and happy, occasionally taking a break to think about her boyfriend. Life was enjoyable. Zhou Kao often couldn’t reach Wen Le and had a lot of complaints, which Wen Le teased him about, turning him into a nagging husband.

After the New Year, during the early spring, Aunt Yu returned to the mountains to visit Grandpa and Grandma Wen. While chatting with Grandma Wen, she mentioned there was a private auction in Hong Kong recently, and Grandma Wen shared that she liked some of the jewelry items. She planned to have her agent bid for them.

However, Aunt Yu said, “There’s no need to find an agent this time. I happen to have something to do in Hong Kong, so I’ll go bid.”

After some thought, Grandma Wen said, “Then take Lele with you. Let her see if there’s anything she likes and let her bid for it herself. And while you’re in Hong Kong, let her have some fun. If there’s anything she needs, get it for her.”

    So, the matter was settled.

Aunt Yu acted quickly. What she talked about in the morning was arranged by evening.

When Wen Le mentioned it to Zhou Kao during their phone call that night, Zhou Kao sighed and said, “It’s a good thing school is starting soon.”

    Wen Le teased, “Missed me?”

Zhou Kao sighed, “I’m afraid if school doesn’t start soon, someone will forget what her boyfriend looks like.”

Wen Le couldn’t stop laughing. “Do you know you sound like a nagging husband right now?”

Zhou Kao justified himself, “Is it my fault? Don’t you think you should reflect on yourself?”

Wen Le felt guilty. “Is it my fault?”

    Zhou Kao sneered, “Isn’t it?”

Wen Le chuckled, “Okay, okay, I promise to spend more time with you when school starts.”

A couple of days later, Wen Le flew to Hong Kong with Aunt Yu.

The Wen family had property in Hong Kong, so Aunt Yu lived in the main house to take care of Wen Le.

Aunt Yu’s family, spanning several generations, was all part of the Wen family, unlike the typical boss-employee relationship. They had deep affection for each other, like family. Additionally, Aunt Yu was unmarried, so she regarded Wen Le as her own daughter.

The highlight of this auction was a nearly forty-carat yellow sapphire necklace. Aunt Yu made several bids, but another buyer was determined and eventually won the bid at a price twenty percent higher than the market value.

Although Aunt Yu regretted not winning the beautiful yellow sapphire, Wen Le didn’t mind. She had her eye on another necklace called “Tear of the Goddess.”

This necklace was simple in design but extraordinarily beautiful. It was primarily made of a 192-carat tanzanite. The tanzanite, shaped like a teardrop, was three-dimensional, so there were no extensive diamond inlays. Instead, diamonds adorned the tip of the teardrop, fixed on a delicate silver chain. The chain was devoid of any other diamonds, emphasizing the beauty of the blue tanzanite.

Wen Le was satisfied with winning this necklace.

After the auction, there was a banquet where everyone dressed elegantly.

This was a private auction, not open to the public. Everyone in attendance was invited by the organisers.

Wen Le recognized many familiar faces at the auction. There were well-known actresses from the entertainment industry, rising stars, and a few B-list celebrities who came with their partners.

Wen Le wore a white evening gown and attended the banquet with Aunt Yu.

As they walked towards the banquet hall, Aunt Yu whispered to Wen Le about the necklace she had just won at the auction.

“Lele, you have rather good taste. That Tanzanite necklace is quite impressive, both in colour and purity. While the raw stone itself may not be worth the price, its craftsmanship and design add considerable value to it. And the fact that it was made by a master jeweler…”

Just as Aunt Yu was speaking, they were interrupted by someone calling out.

    “Editor Chief Yu!”

Aunt Yu suddenly stopped walking, and Wen Le turned around to see the popular actress, Qu Manyu, standing behind them with a radiant smile. She was accompanied by two somewhat familiar individuals—one Wen Le recognized as Li Lexue, while the other seemed vaguely familiar, perhaps a newcomer signed by Qu Manyu’s studio.

Li Lexue and Qu Manyu belonged to the same company, which explained why Li Lexue was by Qu Manyu’s side.

Qu Manyu had been in the entertainment industry for many years and was still in her early thirties. Despite her age, she often caused a stir in the headlines. Over the years, she had tried to transition into the film industry, but without much success.

Aunt Yu recognized Qu Manyu and smiled, “Ah, it’s Manyu.”

Qu Manyu nodded with a smile and introduced the person next to her, “You know Lexue, and this is Yu Yan. We’ve recently collaborated with Director Wang…”

Aunt Yu offered some polite compliments, and Qu Manyu continued, “I’ve been wanting to thank you for a long time since our last collaboration. If it weren’t for your help during that unexpected incident, I would have been embarrassed.”

Aunt Yu smiled politely, “There’s no need for thanks, it was just a small gesture.”

“You’re too modest,” Qu Manyu said, looking at Wen Le beside Aunt Yu. She felt a flash of admiration at the sight of Wen Le’s face, but then her heart sank.

A face like Wen Le’s was highly sought after in the entertainment industry. If she could be signed to her studio… Unfortunately, she was snatched away by Yu Wangshu. But… she hadn’t heard that Yu Wangshu was bringing in new talent.

Li Lexue also recognized Wen Le. She remembered Wen Le not just because of her stunning beauty but also because of the incident where Wen Le outshone her. Since that incident, whenever her company sent press releases praising her beauty, there were always people mocking her inability to hide the fact that she had been outshone by a stranger.

Li Lexue felt aggrieved as well. Who wouldn’t feel wronged if they were overshadowed by a stranger for no reason? Therefore, Li Lexue harboured some hostility towards Wen Le.

Qu Manyu had noticed Wen Le earlier and said with a smile, “You have a great new talent.”

Aunt Yu’s smile faded slightly, “No, she’s my master’s young lady.”

Qu Manyu didn’t immediately understand what “my master’s young lady” meant.

At that moment, the film empress, Xi Ya’an, approached Aunt Yu and greeted her, “Wangshu.”

Aunt Yu turned to Xi Ya’an, her expression visibly warmer, “You’re here too.”

Xi Ya’an nodded, and the two seemed familiar, speaking more casually. “Just came to take a look, but unfortunately didn’t find anything I liked.”

Xi Ya’an then looked at Wen Le, her eyes flickering slightly. She glanced at the clothes Wen Le was wearing and was surprised, “Isn’t this the outfit I saw in your house last time, the one you made yourself? I remember asking you for it, but you refused. So, it was meant for this little beauty. Who is she?”

Wen Le smiled gracefully and extended her hand, “I’m Wen Le.”

Her confident demeanour and grace were no less than that of the famous actress.

Aunt Yu looked at Wen Le and said, “Most of Lele’s clothes are made by me.”

The actress was even more surprised at Aunt Yu’s explanation.

Aunt Yu continued, “Remember when you asked me about the difference between Lele’s Orchid series and other series? The biggest difference is that a vice president personally participates in the production line of the Orchid series.”

Xi Ya’an was somewhat taken aback. It was well known that Yu Wangshu was not only an internationally renowned designer with her own brand but also the chief editor of one of China’s top three fashion magazines. She also served as the vice president of a clothing brand under the Wen Group, as well as the vice chairman of Le Yin. Each vice chairman of Le Yin had a resume similar to Yu Wangshu’s. Such a person was involved in the production line of the Orchid series?

Xi Ya’an and the others couldn’t help but look at Wen Le. They all wondered: What is the background of this girl?

They didn’t stay outside for long and soon left the banquet hall.

When no one was paying attention, Aunt Yu whispered to Wen Le, “I noticed Li Lexue’s look towards you wasn’t quite right. Is there some grudge between you two?”

Wen Le then recounted the incident with the video to Aunt Yu.

Aunt Yu smiled and said, “She just happened to be the unlucky one. How about this, we’re not unreasonable people. Since she suffered because of you, let’s give her a resource as compensation. What do you think?”

Wen Le nodded in agreement, “You’re right.”

Although Aunt Yu didn’t say much about Wen Le’s identity, the people present could guess it more or less after the events. The treatment Wen Le received, such as being dressed by Yu Wangshu and having her own series in Le Yin, made her identity quite obvious. She was probably the young lady of the Wen family’s Tianyin Group.

Xi Ya’an and Aunt Yu chatted as they made their way to the banquet hall. “That yellow sapphire was really beautiful. I wonder who managed to win it…”

Throughout the banquet, many people approached Aunt Yu to chat.

Feeling a bit bored by Aunt Yu’s side, Wen Le excused herself to get some fresh air on the balcony. However, she was surprised when a familiar voice called out her name, “Wen Le.”

She turned around in surprise. That familiar face…it’s clearly Zhou Kao!

Wen Le was pleasantly surprised and couldn’t help but raise her voice, “What are you doing here?”

Zhou Kao smiled and walked up to Wen Le, wrapping his arm around her waist. “To ease my heartache from missing you.”

Wen Le was overjoyed, her heart filled with happiness. She wanted to throw herself into Zhou Kao’s arms right then and there, but with so many people around, it wasn’t convenient.

As the saying goes, absence makes the heart fonder.

Reunited after a long separation, the two lovers’ eyes sparkled with electricity as they gazed at each other. It felt as if they were drawn to each other, unable to tear their eyes away.

Wen Le realized how much she missed Zhou Kao. At that moment, her love and longing surged within her, ready to burst out.

Zhou Kao led Wen Le to a secluded little garden, where they hid behind a tree and whispered sweet nothings to each other.

Pressing Wen Le against the tree, Zhou Kao buried his head in her neck, murmuring about how much he missed her.

Wen Le couldn’t resist Zhou Kao’s tender words. Her chest swelled with emotion, her blood boiling. With the rough and cold tree trunk behind her and the hot body of Zhou Kao in front of her, she felt torn between two dimensions—passion and restraint, heat and cold, reason and loss of control.

Like dry tinder meeting a fierce fire, the slightest touch ignited a blazing inferno.

Starting with gentle caresses on the ears, their breaths gradually became heavier. Then came licking, biting, sucking, as electric currents ran rampant through their bodies, igniting sparks of passion.

With her back against the tree trunk, Zhou Kao’s hand lifted her waist, pressing her closer. One of Wen Le’s legs was lifted and wrapped around Zhou Kao’s waist. Zhou Kao’s other hand was behind Wen Le’s head, bringing her even closer, allowing their fiery kisses to deepen.

Both of them were getting carried away with emotions. Wen Le melted into a puddle, completely at Zhou Kao’s mercy.

Behind the tree was an elegant evening banquet, and on the other side was a passionate kiss between the two, igniting a clandestine excitement that only fueled their desires, intensifying their emotions even more.

After embracing each other for who knows how long, the sound of footsteps behind the tree finally made them separate.

Wen Le’s legs were still a bit weak as she leaned on Zhou Kao, catching her breath for a moment.

At that moment, Wen Le’s phone vibrated in her evening bag. She thought Aunt Yu was probably looking for her since she had been away for so long. Indeed, when she checked her phone, it was a message from Aunt Yu.

Putting her phone back, Wen Le said to Zhou Kao, “I have to go back. Aunt Yu is looking for me.”

As Wen Le turned to leave, Zhou Kao grabbed her arm. Confused, Wen Le looked back, and Zhou Kao pointed to his lips.

Then it dawned on Wen Le what he meant. Blushing, she quickly took out her lipstick and mirror from her evening bag to touch up her lips. After applying the lipstick, Wen Le looked up at Zhou Kao and said, “Come here, let me wipe yours too.”

After they both tidied up, the two of them reluctantly left.

Wen Le made sure everything was in order before heading back to the banquet hall.

Aunt Yu was still talking to Xi Ya’an, and when she saw Wen Le approaching, she suddenly froze, pointing at Wen Le’s neck, “Lele, what’s that on your neck? How did it end up there?”

Wen Le was momentarily stunned, thinking Zhou Kao had left a mark again. But then she realised something was off. Zhou Kao hadn’t kissed her neck. So Wen Le subconsciously touched her neck, only then realising what Aunt Yu was referring to.

There was a yellow sapphire necklace on her neck, the one Aunt Yu failed to win at the auction.

It suddenly struck Wen Le that when they were kissing, Zhou Kao seemed to have done something to her neck. But she was too excited at the time and had forgotten about it.

Wen Le was also a bit confused.

Xi Ya’an looked at the sapphire necklace with regret and asked, “How did it end up with you?”

Aunt Yu frowned. Her first reaction was unexpectedly suspicious. She couldn’t help but feel her heart sink. She asked Wen Le in a deep voice, “Who gave it to you, Lele? You can’t just accept something like this randomly.”

Before Wen Le could answer, her phone vibrated again. She took out her phone and glanced at it. It was a WeChat message from Zhou Kao saying, “A New Year’s gift, it suits you well.”

Wen Le awkwardly put away her phone and looked at Aunt Yu, who was on the verge of calling the security guards. She grabbed Aunt Yu’s hand and whispered softly, “Auntie, don’t get upset. It’s… it’s from my boyfriend.”

Aunt Yu looked around and saw nothing but middle-aged balding and greasy men. Her expression darkened even more.

I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 72

    My Boyfriend

Zhou Kao stood up, shielding Wen Le behind him, and helplessly called out, “Mom!”

Wen Le, hidden behind Zhou Kao, blushed and straightened her clothes, feeling so embarrassed that she wished she could find a hole to hide in.

Li Hua chuckled warmly. “Oh, well, Mom’s just here to bring you some things.”

By now, Wen Le had fixed her clothes and took a deep breath before stepping forward on her own initiative. Given the situation, there was no way for her to avoid it.

Trying to make her smile look less awkward, Wen Le moved a couple of steps forward and greeted, “Hello, Auntie.”

Zhou Kao glanced back at Wen Le, then squeezed her wrist comfortingly.

However, Li Hua recognized Wen Le without Zhou Kao’s introduction. She greeted Wen Le warmly, “It’s Le Le, right? I’ve been telling Zhou Kao to bring you over for dinner. I’ve been wanting to meet you for a while. Come here and let Auntie have a look.”

Li Hua’s enthusiastic attitude immediately reduced Wen Le’s embarrassment by half. Wen Le glanced at Zhou Kao, who nodded reassuringly. Encouraged, Wen Le mustered a polite smile, walked up gracefully, and allowed Li Hua to inspect her.

Li Hua smiled and took Wen Le’s hand. “What a good child.”

Despite her warm demeanour, Li Hua was nothing like the typical elderly folks on the street. Li Hua was well-preserved, appearing to be in her thirties despite being over fifty. Moreover, she exuded a gentle and elegant aura, akin to a gentle rain or an ink painting, which made her easily likable.

This was Zhou Kao’s mother, and she didn’t seem difficult to get along with.

Li Hua led Wen Le into the living room, instructing Zhou Kao to put away the food and fruit she had brought.

Zhou Kao carried the items to the kitchen while Li Hua chatted affectionately with Wen Le. Surprisingly, the atmosphere wasn’t awkward at all.

Li Hua smiled and said, “You’re only a few months younger than Zhou Kao. Your family used to live near ours, and if it weren’t for that incident that made your family move out of Beijing, you and Zhou Kao would have grown up together. It’s amazing how despite not growing up together, you still ended up together. Fate works in mysterious ways.”

“Zhou Kao’s dad and your dad have known each other for a long time. He mentioned that your dad didn’t get a proper welcome when he returned. After your exams are over, our families should get together and catch up.”

After a brief chat and putting down the things she brought over, Zhou Kao’s mother left.

As they escorted Zhou Kao’s mother to the elevator and watched the descending floors, they both breathed a sigh of relief.

Wen Le lightly punched Zhou Kao. “It’s all your fault!”

Zhou Kao rubbed the spot where Wen Le had hit him, looking innocent.

Wen Le sighed. “I feel like I’m developing a psychological trauma towards your house.”

Zhou Kao stepped forward, wrapping his arms around Wen Le from behind as they walked back to their room. His breath tickled Wen Le’s ear as he spoke in a low, deep voice, “Please don’t. If you’re afraid of it, I’ll have no choice but to sell it.”

Wen Le was still puzzled. “How come we keep running into her? Does your mom come here every day?”

Zhou Kao replied, “No, Madam Li Hua has only been here three times, and you’ve bumped into her twice.”

Zhou Kao shrugged. “I guess that’s just the attraction between you and Madam Li Hua.”

As they walked, still embracing and chatting, Zhou Kao’s neighbour suddenly opened his door. A man in his thirties or forties, dressed in a tie, suit, and leather shoes, stepped out. He looked sophisticated and elite. Seeing the couple embracing each other in front of him, he froze for a moment, seemingly caught off guard by this unexpected display of affection.

Their eyes met, and the couple, equally shocked, hesitated for a moment before quickly separating and rushing into their respective homes.

    The man: …

After Li Hua got into the car, she called Zhou Chengyun. “Old Zhou, why don’t we arrange a meeting with Wen Tianqi sometime? Let’s discuss the kids…”

    ….

Wen Le finished her last exam, and the students in Room 307 were busy packing their bags, preparing to leave either on the same day or the next.

Wen Le packed her bags, planning to go home right after finishing her exams. Xiao Yang wanted to pick her up, but Wen Le declined.

As the exams were over, the atmosphere in the girls’ dormitory building was lively. Drivers were driving up to pick up students, and boyfriends were coming to see their girlfriends.

Standing amidst the bustling crowd, Zhou Kao stood out like a crane among chickens, drawing frequent glances from those around him.

Since the villa had been renovated, Wen Le often went home. Therefore, she didn’t have much stuff in the dormitory, and she only packed a small suitcase.

Carrying her luggage down from the third floor, Wen Le saw Zhou Kao approaching from afar. With long strides, he walked towards the girls’ dormitory entrance. His exceptionally long legs stirred up a breeze as he reached the door and pulled it open. Then he came out holding a white suitcase. Following him, a girl stepped out from the dormitory.

It was none other than the famous BBS goddess Wen Le. The combination of the handsome guy and the beautiful girl was incredibly harmonious.

Zhou Kao pushed Wen Le’s suitcase, and the two of them affectionately chatted as Zhou Kao placed Wen Le’s luggage in the car. Then they drove away together.

Zhou Kao’s car went straight to Wen Le’s villa area. The two of them cuddled in the car for a while, reluctant to part at the thought of not seeing each other for over a month.

The car stopped outside the gate, and they hugged and kissed for a while longer, becoming increasingly reluctant to leave.

Wen Le whispered softly, “How about we go inside and sit for a while? My dad isn’t home.”

It was daytime, and Wen Tianqi was usually working outside at this time.

Zhou Kao kissed Wen Le’s earlobe, feeling tempted, but he still refused. “No, I won’t visit your house empty-handed. Let’s go in next time when your dad’s home.”

    Wen Le blushed slightly.

The two of them were still lingering in the car when suddenly the gate opened.

They were taken aback, then remembered there was a surveillance camera outside.

Wen Le blinked. “It… It should be… the butler, right?”

“We can’t stay in the car any longer. If we don’t get out, the butler might come out,” Zhou Kao said.

They quickly got out of the car. Zhou Kao took Wen Le’s luggage from the trunk and pushed it towards her. “I’m leaving.”

Wen Le grabbed Zhou Kao’s hand, and the two of them looked at each other reluctantly for a moment before Wen Le let go and nodded.

Zhou Kao’s car drove away, and Wen Le turned back, intending to go inside. As she turned, she saw the butler standing behind her.

Startled, Wen Le patted her chest and complained, “Uncle He, why are you here? You scared me.”

The butler, Uncle He, smiled and stepped forward to take Wen Le’s luggage. “The master saw that Miss Wen was reluctant to come in, so he asked me to come out and welcome Miss Wen.”

Wen Le’s heart skipped a beat, feeling somewhat guilty. “Is… Is my dad at home?”

The butler smiled. “Yes, the master cleared his schedule recently and planned to accompany Miss Wen back to visit the Elder Master Wen and Madam Wen.”

Wen Le felt extremely nervous, afraid that the sudden opening of the gate was intentional, perhaps her dad saw them lingering in the car and opened the gate to remind them?

Luckily, Zhou Kao didn’t come in, or it would have been even more embarrassing.

When Wen Le returned home, Wen Tianqi’s expression was somewhat gloomy, but he didn’t say anything. He just asked Wen Le to pack her things and informed her of the time to return home.

After traveling for several hours, they arrived back at the villa nestled at the foot of the mountain. It was a simple two-story villa, with modest decorations that couldn’t compare to the luxury of the villa in the capital. However, it was where Wen Le grew up, so she felt a stronger sense of belonging here.

Having not been home for several months, Wen Le was excited to see the familiar villa again. She shouted for her grandparents and ran into the house.

Her grandmother, in her seventies, was watering flowers in the yard, while her grandfather was standing beside her, directing her. He only stopped nagging when her grandmother scolded him a few times.

Wen Le rushed into the yard and happily threw herself into her grandmother’s arms. “Grandma! I’m back.”

Her grandmother took a step back from Wen Le’s sudden embrace, laughing as she patted Wen Le. “You scared me to death! Why are you still acting like a little monkey at your age?”

Wen Le laughed and kissed her grandmother on the cheek. “Because I missed you, Grandma.”

Her grandmother couldn’t help but laugh at Wen Le’s antics.

At this moment, her grandfather coughed discontentedly beside them.

Wen Le quickly let go of her grandmother and ran to her grandfather, playfully tapping his shoulder. “I missed Grandpa too!”

Her grandfather snorted, displeased. “I didn’t see any signs of you missing me. You hardly ever called.”

Wen Le protested, “But every time I called, Grandpa always made Grandma answer!”

Her grandfather snorted again. “I was busy at the time! Didn’t have time for idle chatter!”

Wen Le imitated her grandfather’s actions and hummed a couple of times. “Every time I call, you’re always busy. Grandpa, you’re even busier than Dad.”

Her grandfather couldn’t argue with Wen Le and pretended to threaten to knock her on the head. Wen Le quickly dodged behind her grandmother and stuck her tongue out at her grandfather.

At this moment, Wen Tianqi also walked into the house. “Dad, Mom.”

The whole family entered the house happily.

Grandpa Wen was a quirky and adorable old man. Every time Wen Le called him, he would eavesdrop on her conversations with her grandmother but wouldn’t actively participate. However, Grandpa Wen genuinely loved Wen Le. Whenever Wen Le came home, her grandfather would call her to his study to check if she had fallen behind in her studies, but in reality, he just wanted to show off his recent masterpieces to Wen Le.

Wen Le had always been a little flatterer to her grandfather, praising him from the paintings on the walls of his study to the new inkstone on his desk.

Her grandfather was delighted by Wen Le’s flattery and gave her an ancient painting from who knew which era.

Wen Le happily accepted it but suddenly remembered something as she looked at the painting. “Grandpa, where’s the Song Plum Blossom painting you made years ago?”

“It’s in the safe. Why do you suddenly ask about it?” her grandfather replied casually.

Wen Le smiled. “I just heard that the Dragon painting… is in the hands of a classmate of mine.”

Her grandfather shrugged indifferently. “That’s a coincidence. Ask your classmate if they can return it. I don’t mind, but your grandmother believes in these things. Back then, one of my old friends wanted the Dragon painting, but your grandmother disagreed and complained to me for years, saying that this thing had a great destiny with you. Since you know who has it, it’s better to get it back. In the future, you and your partner should each have one, then it’ll be complete.”

He added, “This way, your grandmother won’t have any reason to complain to me anymore.”

In fact, Wen Le had a better relationship with her grandfather. Their relationship was more like that of old friends. Sometimes Wen Le wouldn’t tell her grandmother or father certain things, but she liked to confide in this quirky and adorable grandfather.

Wen Le hesitated for a moment before reluctantly saying, “The Dragon painting… is in the hands of my boyfriend.”

The brush in her grandfather’s hand paused abruptly on his sleeve: …

  • A Love Letter to Wei Lai Chapter 13

A Love Letter to Wei Lai Chapter 13

Zhou Sujin Asked Her, “Meet Tonight or Tomorrow?”

Wei Lai had originally planned to stay in Beijing for three days, setting aside a day to treat Zhou Sujin to dinner. Even though they now had a contract between them and were officially boyfriend and girlfriend publicly, owing him a favor was a separate matter.

However, plans often fail to keep up with changes.

Around noon, her dad called her, informing her that he had managed to get in touch with the up-and-coming interior designer.

After looking through the designer’s portfolio, Wei Lai found that their design style was exactly what she was looking for, perfectly aligned with her aesthetics. It was rare to come by such a designer.

Her dad informed her that the designer’s schedule had been nearly fully booked. If it weren’t because he had previously helped the designer resolve a legal issue, she would’ve had to wait until March or April of next year to book a consultation.

“Let Dad help you with half of the design fee.”

Wei Lai smiled and declined, “Dad, it’s really not necessary. I have the money.”

Now wasn’t the time to discuss these matters. Wei Huatian gave his daughter the designer’s number.

Wei Lai immediately contacted the designer. The designer’s studio was in Shanghai, and they arranged to meet in Jiang City tomorrow morning to discuss the design proposal.

She could only abruptly end her trip to Beijing and rush back today.

There were still two years between her and Zhou Sujin—plenty of time. There was no rush to treat him to dinner.

President Zhou, I’ve bought a train ticket for this afternoon to return home and have a consultation with a designer.

I’ll treat you to dinner next time we meet.

No need to have Uncle Yan pick me up. I already ordered a ride, and I’ll be checking out of the hotel shortly.

She sent him three messages in a row.

Zhou Sujin was en route to his family home and couldn’t even have Uncle Yan send her.

    He replied, “Got it.

Returning to the family home today was his mom’s suggestion. She wanted him and his older brother to come home for afternoon tea if they were free and stay for dinner.

The last time they had dinner together was during the Lantern Festival, and it was now September already. He and his brother had almost forgotten what the dinnerware and silverware at home looked like.

Usually, he would go home to spend time with his mom when he wasn’t so busy, but there was no dinner.

Today, Zhou Jiaye arrived home before Zhou Sujin as he wasn’t busy.

The several parking spaces were already occupied, with their aunt’s car occupying one.

Apart from their dad, everyone was gathered. Today’s agenda undoubtedly involved the three of them questioning why he had rejected such an outstanding blind date before subtly probing about his girlfriend.

Their uncle had brought his own tea set and was brewing tea in the dining room, filling the whole house with the aroma of tea. Mom and Aunt were enjoying tea and snacks while Zhou Jiaye chatted with their uncle over tea.

“Sujin, you’ve come at the right time. Come have a cup,” their uncle used tongs to place a cup of hot tea on an empty spot.

After exchanging greetings, Zhou Sujin sat down beside his older brother.

“With both brothers present, Ning Ruzhen spoke frankly, “I know you both dislike blind dates, but to be honest, I’m even more fed up. Whenever someone introduces a prospective daughter-in-law to me, they always introduce two. You reject once, I have to reject twice. Today, let’s have a good chat about how to decline blind dates without offending anyone.”

After saying that, she glanced at her eldest son, then at her youngest. The eldest held a snack in his hand nonchalantly while the youngest leisurely sipped his tea, neither saying a word.

“If either of you had a girlfriend, I could still stall the matchmakers. But here you guys are, with no girlfriends and refusing blind dates. How am I supposed to reject others? En?”

Zhou Sujin and his older brother remained silent.

    “Say something!”

    They remained silent.

Ning Ruzhen’s anger was rising rapidly.

You should come clean about having a girlfriend.

Zhou Sujin turned to his older brother and said, “Why don’t we go back first? Out of sight, out of mind for Mom, and it’ll prevent her from getting mad.”

    Ning Rujiang: “…”

Ning Ruzhen was so angry she felt like grabbing a broom and chasing them out.

Seeing the situation, their uncle could only try to smooth things over for the two brothers. “I heard the tea in Jiang City is not bad. Sujin, since you’ve been visiting often, did you bring back any tea?”

    He hadn’t brought any.

However, there were other types of tea in the trunk as backup.

Zhou Sujin set down his teacup. “I’ll go get it.”

Their uncle waved his hand, urging him to hurry.

Once he left, the dining room finally quieted down.

“See that? Did you all see that!” Ning Ruzhen wanted to complain to her sister and brother-in-law, but there were too many grievances, and she didn’t know where to start.

Ning Rujiang comforted her sister and shared what she knew, “Sujin has a girlfriend. I heard about it only yesterday, but I’m not sure if he just found someone to deal with the family or if it’s a genuine relationship?”

Ning Ruzhen took a sip of tea to calm her anger. Being constantly angered had become accustomed to her, so she quickly composed herself. She looked at her eldest son and asked, “Do you know your brother has a girlfriend?”

    Zhou Jiaye: “Yes.”

Then, he added “Knowing or not knowing makes no difference; I’ve never met her.”

The only person who probably knew the truth was Lu An, but he kept his mouth shut tight. There was no way to pry even half a word out of him.

Ning Ruzhen pondered for a moment, “Here’s a deal: if you find out whether your brother’s relationship with his girlfriend is serious or if he just found her to fool us, I’ll spare you from blind dates for a year.”

    Zhou Jiaye: “…”

    This temptation was strong.

However, the idea of backstabbing each other was out of the question for him and Zhou Sujin. They had reached a consensus to cover for each other since childhood, seamlessly cooperating every time without any mishaps. Whenever they encountered a problem, they would deflect it to each other or sabotage each other, leading their family to believe they didn’t get along. In reality, it was all part of their strategy.

“Sis, I think we can start by investigating Sujin’s watch.”

    “What watch?”

“He’s been wearing a rather ordinary watch quite frequently in the past couple of months. It doesn’t seem like something he would buy himself.”

“What watch did he wear today?” Ning Ruzhen, still feeling a bit muddled from being angered, hadn’t paid attention to her youngest’s watch.

Ning Rujiang: “He didn’t wear that one today. I’ll take a picture of it for you next time I see him wearing it.”

If you don’t want the family to find out who your girlfriend is, erase any relevant information about your watch.

While their aunt and mom were engrossed in chatting, Zhou Jiaye quickly wrote a message and sent it over.

Zhou Sujin: “As I told you before, it wasn’t a gift from her. Auntie and Mom can investigate all they want.

At 8:30 p.m. the high-speed train stopped at Jiang City Station.

Wei Huatian stood at the exit, scanning the crowd for his daughter’s figure.

“Dad!” Wei Lai’s voice sounded from behind him.

Wei Huatian swiftly turned around. His daughter had grown up, and their time together had become scarce compared to before. With her wearing new clothes and a different hairstyle, it would be challenging for him to spot her in a crowded place.

She passed right by him in the stream of people, and he didn’t notice her.

He took her luggage. “Why didn’t you call me if you couldn’t find me?”

Here is the rest of the text with italicized portions kept with enclosing quotation marks:

Wei Lai had assumed her dad was waiting for her outside the station. She had nearly reached the parking lot without seeing him. “I called you, but you didn’t answer. I figured you must be in the lobby, so I came back.”

Wei Huatian suddenly remembered, “I had my phone on silent when I was talking to a client this afternoon and forgot to turn it back on.”

As usual, it was the chauffeur driving today, and Wei Lai sat in the back with her dad.

Once in the car, Wei Lai yawned.

Wei Huatian said distressedly, “You must’ve been exhausted. Take a nap; I’ll wake you up when we arrive.”

Wei Lai shook her head. “I’m not tired. It’s just that my circadian rhythm is a bit messed up.” Going to Beijing and suddenly having a pseudo-boyfriend had disrupted her sleep for the past two nights.

She leaned against her dad’s shoulder and dozed off, inexplicably reminded of leaning on Zhou Sujin’s shoulder last night while asleep.

“Tomorrow, Dad will be busy, so you’ll have to meet the designer on your own.”

“You don’t have to accompany me.” Wei Lai joked, “It’s not like when I used to go to preschool—if you don’t accompany me, I won’t go.”

Wei Huatian smiled wistfully but didn’t respond.

Sometimes he felt like his daughter was growing further and further away from him, a feeling he couldn’t quite describe.

Over the next week, Wei Lai was so busy that she barely had a moment to rest.

With a total of 15 stores, each varying in size, layout, and consumer preferences, Wei Lai took the designer to visit each store one by one, explaining the situation and describing the design effect she desired as thoroughly as possible.

As her dad had said, this design project was a big undertaking.

The designer stayed in Jiang City for six days before returning on the seventh day.

Wei Lai finally had a chance to catch her breath, returning home from work at a normal time today.

But it hadn’t been long since things quieted down when that dark blue sports car appeared again outside her condominium.

Yuan Hengrui leaned against the car door with his hands in his pockets. After standing for a while, his back started to ache, and his legs felt sore, so he decided to lean his entire back against the car, resting his head against the roof.

Before him, the night sky stretched endlessly, so dark that it seemed to swallow everything whole.

With a slight turn of his head, he could see the lights of countless homes.

His car was parked in Wei Lai’s parking spot, and suddenly, two high beams flashed a few times, nearly blinding him.

    Wei Lai’s back.

Wei Lai said coldly, “What are you doing again!”

    What was he doing?

What else could he be doing?

    He missed her.

He finally found an excuse to see her.

During this period, he had been locked up at home by his dad to reflect on his actions. He couldn’t even come out to show off because he couldn’t even walk properly, thanks to his dad nearly breaking his leg.

That day, his dad took him to Zhang Yanxin’s office and kicked him hard in one of his legs in front of He Wancheng and Zhang Yanxin, giving Zhang Yanxin an explanation.

But he would rather have his leg broken by his dad than apologize to that scoundrel Zhang Yanxin.

If given the chance again, he would still punch Zhang Yanxin. After all, it was because of him that Wei Lai was hurt so deeply.

Yuan Hengrui opened the car door and grabbed his phone from the passenger seat before opening a photo.

“See for yourself,” he said, handing his phone to Wei Lai.

Wei Lai’s gaze fixed on the photo, which showed a woman with exceptional looks and demeanor.

Yuan Hengrui glanced at the wind direction and took a few steps back, creating some distance between himself and Wei Lai before pulling out a cigarette box and a lighter from his pocket.

“That woman comes from a family compatible with Zhou Sujin’s. They will get married. They even went on a blind date and met each other. Don’t tell me you’re not bothered by it at all.”

Wei Lai had been so busy lately that she barely had time to sleep. Besides, knowing about Zhou Sujin’s blind date, she didn’t pay much attention even when her plastic sisters tried to pry into the situation.

“Many people have been talking about you behind your back these days. And you? No reaction at all, pretending to be deaf and blind! Someone even saw you showing off that Cullinan yesterday. Wei Lai, do you not care about your reputation anymore? Or do you think your pride and reputation are worthless compared to connections and resources?”

Wei Lai couldn’t be bothered to respond.

Seeing her silence, Yuan Hengrui felt uneasy. She was admitting it.

“So, you’re willing to be Zhou Sujin’s girlfriend in Jiang City, knowing full well that he’s engaged to someone else, just to enjoy the prestige and connections he brings you, right?”

“Since you only care about fame and fortune and don’t care about feelings, would you finally take me seriously if I made it into the top three of Jiang City’s richest list?”

He added, “I’m not bad-looking either.”

Wei Lai shoved the phone back into his arms. “Go wherever you want to cool off!”

Yuan Hengrui took another step back, trying not to let the smoke choke her. “Don’t be mad. I’m just sharp-tongued. I know you’re not that kind of person.”

Wei Lai: “You act like you know me so well.”

“Of course. I know you better than Zhou Sujin, better than Zhang Yanxin, better than you know yourself! Do you believe me, Wei Lai?”

Yuan Hengrui stubbed out his cigarette and tossed it into the trash. “I know you don’t believe me.”

“It’s inevitable. I’m not a big shot, so my words carry little weight. But when I become one of the top three richest people in Jiang City, you’ll definitely believe what I say.”

    Wei Lai: “…”

“I’ll get going. Get some rest soon,” Yuan Hengrui retreated before irritating her, driving away in his flashy sports car in a cloud of smoke.

At this moment, mixed emotions flooded him. He was glad Wei Lai’s relationship with Zhou Sujin probably wouldn’t last long, but he was saddened that it would take him ages to make a fortune.

Just a couple of days ago, he consulted a fortune teller to have his fortune told, inquiring about his financial prospects.

The fortune teller assured him that he would naturally become wealthy and prosperous in the future.

As if it needed to be said; he had been wealthy and prosperous since birth. So he asked the fortune teller if he could become one of the top three richest in Jiang City.

The fortune teller suddenly fell silent…

After the sports car left, Wei Lai parked her own car in its spot.

Regarding Zhou Sujin’s blind date and the rumors of her dreams of marrying into affluence being shattered again, she ignored them.

She hadn’t anticipated that over the past few weeks, the rumors would become increasingly absurd. They claimed she willingly wronged herself, unwilling to leave Zhou Sujin, and even went as far as to take an overnight train to Beijing to tearfully salvage their relationship, only for Zhou Sujin to remain unmoved, who eventually grew annoyed and dismissed her with that Cullinan.

You’re not even part of that circle anymore, yet they still obsess over you, caring about how you’re doing, whether you’ve been abandoned, and even worrying over how much you could sell that car for. Look at how much they love you. (smirk).

During her break, former colleague Tang Zhi couldn’t wait to share the gossip she overheard in the kitchen with Wei Lai.

Today, Wei Lai was driving the very same car, the Cullinan, and she was currently sitting inside it.

As for the rumors, she simply laughed them off.

It had been over three weeks since she returned from Beijing, and she received the initial design draft for her first store today. The book cafe and study room she had envisioned were faithfully recreated by the designer.

She shared this pleasant surprise with her parents and forwarded the renderings to Zhao Yihan; these three people were now the people she cared most about.

After some thought, she opened her chat with Zhou Sujin and sent him a copy of the renderings too.

I rushed back just to design this.

    He didn’t reply.

An hour later, Zhou Sujin called.

After three weeks, he was almost like a stranger.

    Wei Lai answered, “President Zhou.”

Zhou Sujin: “I just arrived in Jiang City. I’ll be having meetings here for the next few days. Should we meet tonight or tomorrow?”

  • I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 71

I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 71

    Second Accidental Meeting

Su Zhenzhen’s pupils trembled, staring at Wen Le in disbelief. “You… You…”

Su Zhenzhen’s eyes reddened with shock, her words faltering. “You… You’re from the Wen family of Tianyin Group?”

Wen Le looked at Su Zhenzhen, lips pressed into a faint smile. “That’s right.”

Wen Le smiled gently. “So, tell me, among the Wen, Zhou, and Su families, which families are wealthy? And who is aiming to marry into a wealthy family, hmm?”

Su Zhenzhen was overwhelmed with shame.

She knew deep down that the Su family was not on the same level as the Zhou family and the Wen family of Tianyin Group. In front of such super-elite families, the Su family was nothing but a lowly, insignificant clan.

The wealthy families were naturally the Zhou and Wen families, and it was the lowly Su family that aspired to marry into wealth.

But how could Su Zhenzhen bring herself to admit it?

Clearly, she was the epitome of a wealthy, beautiful girl from a prestigious family, while Wen Le was just a pauper from an ordinary family…

Su Zhenzhen muttered to herself, “Impossible, impossible… Sun Youmei clearly said you were a pauper! It’s impossible…”

“You must be lying to me. Are your clothes fake? Did Zhou Kao get them for you? I don’t believe it… I don’t believe it!”

Wen Le shrugged, taking a sip of her coffee nonchalantly. “Maybe, maybe not. It’s up to you to believe.”

But the more indifferent and unconcerned Wen Le appeared the more Su Zhenzhen became suspicious.

While Su Zhenzhen sat there, restless with various speculations, Wen Le remained unperturbed, delicately nibbling on a dessert with a small fork, enjoying herself with narrowed eyes, using a napkin to dab at the corner of her mouth, elegant and charming.

    This exacerbated Su Zhenzhen’s jealousy.

Several tables nearby couldn’t help but discreetly glance at Wen Le, but no one spared a glance at Su Zhenzhen. Su Zhenzhen had initially thought that what mattered was the contrast in wealth between their families, but now she realised that Wen Le’s true superiority wasn’t in the stark contrast between the wealth of the Wen family and the Su family, but rather in Wen Le’s aura and charm.

With every gesture and expression, Wen Le exuded an elegance and allure as if it were a carefully choreographed scene from a movie. Such elegance and refined relaxation couldn’t be cultivated by just any family.

One couldn’t flaunt a family’s wealth everywhere, and even if one did, it would only seem base. The truly prestigious families had a smarter way—nurturing descendants with profound backgrounds and upbringing, carrying a unique aura and charm that was imbued in every gesture and expression.

When Su Zhenzhen failed to realise this, she didn’t consider it particularly important. But at this moment, under the backdrop of Wen Le’s aura that seemed to radiate its own halo, Su Zhenzhen, clad in her metaphorical armour, appeared like a naive daughter from a local mining family, mundane and faded in comparison.

The reactions of those present confirmed this. No one paid attention to her.

Wen Le was in a rather good mood, even complimenting, “This place is well chosen.”

Look at that—she could sincerely and openly praise her impolite adversary. She was graceful, tolerant, and mature.

Su Zhenzhen felt like a villain in decline, pitiful and laughable.

Su Zhenzhen’s eyes reddened with anger. She thought, so what if Wen Le was elegant?

She had also learned table manners, she could be graceful too, and she could be even more charming than Wen Le.

So, Su Zhenzhen picked up her knife and fork, trying her best to display the etiquette she had once learned. But perhaps due to the pressure in her heart or perhaps because she had been startled by Wen Le just now and had lost in momentum, the result of exerting too much force was an inadvertent slip, and the utensils made a grating noise against the plate.

People around turned to look at the sound. Su Zhenzhen’s face flushed, and she simply put down her knife and fork, using a napkin to dab at the corner of her mouth. But this dabbing caused her lipstick to smudge and smear outside her lips. Su Zhenzhen looked at the lipstick stains on the napkin, on the verge of tears.

Everyone knows the story of imitating others in vain.

Su Zhenzhen sadly realised that she was not only imitating others in vain but also blindly following others. Clearly, she used to excel in things she could do well, but now she seemed to have forgotten everything, behaving like a fool who didn’t know where to put her hands.

With red eyes, Su Zhenzhen angrily put down the napkin and reached for the red wine. But in her impatience, she accidentally knocked over the red wine, and with a clang, the wine glass overturned, spilling red wine all over the table and onto Su Zhenzhen’s skirt.

Wen Le looked somewhat surprised but said nothing. Instead, she kindly handed a tissue to Su Zhenzhen.

But seeing Wen Le’s actions only made Su Zhenzhen more furious. She didn’t take it and ran out of the restaurant in tears.

People around looked at her in surprise, but Wen Le ignored them, not bothering to chase after Su Zhenzhen.

Of course, Wen Le wouldn’t chase after her.

Ignoring the surrounding gazes, Wen Le took out her phone and sent a WeChat message.

A waiter came over to ask if she needed any help. Wen Le declined politely in fluent English and then, as if she hadn’t noticed the chaotic table, leisurely finished the dessert in front of her. At that moment, her phone vibrated, and Wen Le glanced at it before calling the waiter to pay the bill.

The waiter who came to collect the payment was a foreigner, and his English was quite broken. Wen Le found it uncomfortable to listen to, so she simply spoke a few words to him in Spanish. The waiter looked pleasantly surprised and even praised Wen Le for her beautiful pronunciation and appearance.

Meanwhile, the eyes of the men around lingered on Wen Le, but she felt no discomfort under their scrutiny. With her confident and beautiful demeanour, one might mistake her for a celebrity.

That’s just how Wen Le was—radiating wherever she went.

The total bill came to three thousand four hundred and twenty-seven yuan. Wen Le clicked her tongue softly and handed over the card her father had given her.

It was somewhat regrettable that she was using this card from her father for the first time in such a situation.

After paying the bill, Wen Le got up, and the waiter brought her coat. Some men’s gazes followed Wen Le as she made her way to the door and continued to track the beautiful woman as she walked out of the restaurant.

So, in the parking lot filled with luxury cars like Porsche and BMW, there was a Volkswagen that stood out. But it wasn’t the understated luxury of a Passat; it was just an ordinary Magotan.

In the midst of their surprise, a handsome man got out of the car. Young, handsome, tall, and straight-backed, he was more handsome than a celebrity, exuding a radiant aura.

And in the next moment, just as the beautiful woman walked out, she approached the handsome man. The man lowered his head and smiled gently, pulling the woman into his embrace and kissing her forehead.

The woman then took off the scarf around her neck, carefully draping it around the man’s neck. She lovingly touched the man’s cheek and leaned in to kiss him on the chin.

After kissing him, she touched the man’s chin as if saying something, and the man chuckled, touching his own chin in response.

Then, the two got into the car and drove off.

As the men around wondered how a guy who drove such a car could afford to take out a girl who was dining in such a high-end restaurant, they noticed the license plate on the departing Magotan—a Beijing A plate, and everything suddenly made sense.

It was a low-key N-generation Magotan, and most importantly, the guy was incredibly handsome.

After the provocation incident with Su Zhenzhen, Wen Le plunged into a busy exam week. She left early and returned late every day, spending her days buried in the library.

During this time, nothing much happened, except that Sun Youmei seemed to look at Wen Le differently, probably because Su Zhenzhen had said something to her. But Wen Le didn’t pay much attention; all she cared about was maintaining her position as the top student—no one could take that away from her.

In the evening, she had a phone call with Zhou Kao. He sounded a bit tired. “So, you’ll be on break in three days after finishing your last exam?”

Wen Le, wearing Bluetooth earphones and still reading, nodded as she flipped a page. “Yes.”

Zhou Kao sounded a bit unhappy. “Oh, I still have two more exams, finishing one week after yours.”

Wen Le replied with a couple of “hmms.” “Then, you should work hard.”

Zhou Kao, displeased, said, “Are you just going to brush me off like that?”

Wen Le looked up from her book with a smile. “What else do you want me to do?”

Zhou Kao softened his voice and coaxed, “Come to my place and study with me. We’ll review together.”

Wen Le raised an eyebrow but remained silent.

Zhou Kao quickly came up with a compelling reason, “You’ll be going back to the mountains for the break, and we won’t see each other for a month and a half…”

Wen Le couldn’t resist Zhou Kao’s cajoling and was picked up by him at home the next day.

As Wen Le sat in Zhou Kao’s car with her backpack, she couldn’t help but think, I’m just going to study, just going to study…

The two were sitting on the sofa in Zhou Kao’s living room studying when suddenly, Wen Le noticed a pimple on Zhou Kao’s face. Unable to resist, she leaned forward, touching Zhou Kao’s face and examining it carefully.

Zhou Kao’s gaze remained on the book. “What’s wrong? Did your boyfriend charm you?”

Wen Le rolled her eyes at him. “You have a pimple on your face?”

Zhou Kao had always had good skin; it was rare to see him with a pimple. It was the first time Wen Le saw Zhou Kao with a pimple.

Wen Le couldn’t help but touch Zhou Kao’s skin in the unaffected areas. His skin was really good.

Zhou Kao chuckled. “Yeah, noticed it when I washed my face this morning.”

Wen Le chuckled. “Feeling a bit stressed lately? Is it because you’re busy and your schedule’s irregular?”

Zhou Kao whispered, “Yeah, feeling a bit stressed. But not because of my irregular schedule, it’s because I haven’t seen my girlfriend for too long.”

Wen Le scolded him teasingly, “Smooth talker.”

With that, Wen Le reached out and touched Zhou Kao’s face, then slowly traced down his face and neck.

Zhou Kao looked at her coldly. “What are you doing?”

Wen Le replied, “You’ve been busy lately, and your schedule’s irregular. You probably haven’t had time to work out. I’m checking to see if your muscles have disappeared.”

Zhou Kao raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything.

Wen Le met his gaze confidently. “Your muscles are part of my benefits. Can’t I check on my own benefits?”

After a moment of thought, Zhou Kao nodded. “Makes sense.”

With that, Zhou Kao lifted his shirt hem, revealing his toned abs. His physique hadn’t changed at all. “How do you think I’m managing my assets?”

Wen Le coughed lightly. “Not bad.”

Zhou Kao glanced at Wen Le. “Can I check on what belongs to me?”

Wen Le blushed. “N-no, you can’t.”

Putting down his book, Zhou Kao chuckled softly and pushed Wen Le onto the sofa, leaning in to kiss her. His voice was low and sexy as he whispered in her ear, “Nowadays, we believe in gender equality. You can’t be unfair to me like this.”

With that, he leaned in and kissed her passionately.

Wen Le was lost in the kiss, her hand finding its way into Zhou Kao’s hair as she responded fervently. Meanwhile, Zhou Kao’s hand explored Wen Le’s waist, tracing the beautiful curve.

The intensity of their intimacy left Wen Le breathless and weak, and Zhou Kao finally pulled away from her lips, trailing kisses along her neck. He then proceeded to unbutton Wen Le’s collar, continuing his exploration.

Wen Le closed her eyes, breathing heavily, her toes curling slightly. She glanced at Zhou Kao’s Adam’s apple before opening her eyes, the colour deepening in her gaze.

Then, she deftly flipped over and straddled Zhou Kao’s lap.

Zhou Kao took a sharp breath, watching Wen Le, her clothes slightly disheveled, raise an eyebrow.

That simple raise of her eyebrow was incredibly seductive.

Wen Le bit her lip and delicately traced her fingers along Zhou Kao’s cheek, leaning down to place a gentle kiss at the corner of his mouth, then tenderly trailing kisses down to his Adam’s apple.

Zhou Kao’s Adam’s apple was particularly enticing, something Wen Le had been longing for. She couldn’t resist; she leaned in and took a nip.

Zhou Kao rubbed Wen Le’s back, keeping her close to him. After lingering at Zhou Kao’s neck for a while, Wen Le planted a kiss near his lips and moved to get up.

However, Zhou Kao refused to let her go, pressing her down.

Wen Le, trying to catch her breath, pushed Zhou Kao away slightly, her voice hoarse. “Stop playing around, things might get out of hand.”

Zhou Kao refused to budge, holding onto Wen Le tightly.

“I want to eat some fruit, go peel it,” Wen Le said.

Zhou Kao stared at her, reluctant to move, clearly wanting to continue their intimate moment.

“Go on, quick!” Wen Le urged.

Zhou Kao sighed and finally released Wen Le, getting up to prepare some fruit in the kitchen.

He peeled apples, peaches, dragon fruits, and bananas, washed cherries and grapes, and even provided two delicate silver forks. Zhou Kao’s service was exceptionally considerate.

After preparing the fruits, Zhou Kao brought them to Wen Le sitting on the sofa, studying her textbooks.

Zhou Kao placed the fruit beside Wen Le and used a fork to feed her a piece of banana. Wen Le opened her mouth and accepted it. Zhou Kao then put down the fork and grabbed a book, lying down next to Wen Le on the sofa, using her legs as a pillow.

Wen Le instinctively moved her book to the side, not wanting to obstruct Zhou Kao’s view.

With Zhou Kao resting his head on her legs, Wen Le continued to flip through her book, lightly tracing her fingers along Zhou Kao’s cheek.

To Zhou Kao, Wen Le’s actions were deeply cherished, signs of her affection.

As Wen Le’s hand roamed Zhou Kao’s face, her fingers unintentionally brushed against his lips. Zhou Kao responded by gently taking Wen Le’s fingers into his mouth.

Realising her mistake, Wen Le withdrew her hand and playfully tapped Zhou Kao on the head.

Zhou Kao winced and rubbed his head, pretending to be hurt.

Wen Le, feeling guilty, gently massaged the spot she had tapped on Zhou Kao’s head, although he wasn’t actually in pain. He simply enjoyed Wen Le’s attention.

Wen Le gently touched Zhou Kao’s forehead and remembered the pimple she had noticed earlier. “I have some herbal tea to reduce internal heat*. I’ll bring you some tomorrow.”

She then pinched Zhou Kao’s cheek and smiled. “You rely on your face to maintain my affection. You have to protect this face, you know, boyfriend?”

Zhou Kao chuckled. “Oh, and what about you? Do you rely on your impressive assets, girlfriend?”

Wen Le lightly tapped Zhou Kao’s chest. “I’m different. I rely on my boyfriend’s unwavering love.”

Zhou Kao laughed, pulled Wen Le’s hand, and kissed the couple’s ring she always wore. “You’re right.”

Wen Le’s gaze remained glued to her book as she turned a page and used a small silver fork to feed herself a piece of dragon fruit. Then, she absentmindedly fed Zhou Kao a piece of apple.

Just then, there was a sound from the entrance, and Li Hua walked in, only to find the couple on the sofa.

The couple froze upon seeing Li Hua, still in the same position as when she entered: Wen Le holding a silver fork, feeding Zhou Kao a piece of apple, and Zhou Kao with his mouth open.

For a moment, the air seemed strangely quiet and tense.

I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 70

    He Should Be Mine

As the exam week approached, Wen Le and Cheng Hui spent almost every day together in the library. One afternoon, they received a call from Zhou Kao. Zhou Kao’s cousin came to A University to invite Zhou Kao for a meal and, having heard that Zhou Kao had a girlfriend, wanted to invite them both to meet over a meal.

Zhou Kao called to ask Wen Le if she would like to go. Although Wen Le was somewhat embarrassed, she did not refuse.

On Saturday night, it snowed heavily, and when they woke up on Sunday, the world was a beautiful silver-white. Wen Le, who grew up in the southern mountains, had rarely seen snow and happily looked out the window, only to see Zhou Kao standing below the dormitory building.

This was their first date since their relationship became public. Zhou Kao was dressed quite flamboyantly, wearing a handsome black wool coat, standing tall with long legs, just standing straight below the girls’ dormitory waiting for Wen Le. The black coat against the snow-white world created a stark visual contrast that made the scene look like a beautiful picture from a movie, drawing the attention of passersby.

However, Wen Le somewhat spoilingly cursed Zhou Kao under her breath for not wearing a scarf or hat. Did he want to look good at the cost of his life?

Wen Le knew how cold it was outside and quickly took the longest white wool scarf from her closet and ran downstairs with it.

Zhou Kao had messaged on WeChat that he was coming to pick her up for a meal. Wen Le was already dressed and ready, having been bored and watching the snow from the window, so she was ready to go out at any time.

Wen Le stepped out of the dormitory, and her boots made a crunching sound on the snow. Zhou Kao turned at the sound, and before he even saw her, he smiled—a smile that was warmer than the winter sun, making one feel warm all over.

Wen Le walked up to him and stood in front of Zhou Kao, reaching out to pinch him at the waist in a spot where others couldn’t see.

Zhou Kao inhaled sharply from the pain.

Wen Le did not loosen her grip, and while pinching Zhou Kao, she felt the thickness of his clothes with her fingers, unintentionally increasing her strength when she realised how thin his clothes were for the winter.

Wen Le gritted her teeth, “Dressing so thinly in such cold weather to charm young girls?”

Enduring the pain, Zhou Kao held Wen Le’s hand, “Isn’t it just so you would love me a little more every time you see me?”

Wen Le felt the burning warmth of Zhou Kao’s hand, thinking that he must not be cold, and then let go, “Lower your head.”

Zhou Kao, with a smile at the corner of his mouth, modestly lowered his proud head.

As he did so, Zhou Kao’s handsome face came closer to Wen Le, who traced the contours of his deep features and handsome eyebrows with her eyes, filled with an unnoticeable tenderness.

Wen Le carefully wrapped the still-warm wool scarf she was holding around Zhou Kao’s neck and took the time to adjust it to match his refined outfit.

    “All done.”

Zhou Kao didn’t look up but quickly scanned the surroundings. There weren’t many people paying attention to them at the moment. Zhou Kao quickly kissed Wen Le on the face and then stood straight, acting gentlemanly, “Let’s go.”

Wen Le, covering the kissed spot, blushed deeply and glared at Zhou Kao. But the glare was timid, lacking force, instead full of charm.

Zhou Kao’s mouth curved slightly, and his warm hand took one of Wen Le’s small hands and tucked it into his coat pocket.

Wen Le blushed slightly and tried to pull her hand back gently, but couldn’t, so she let Zhou Kao lead her forward, her face still flushed. Walking on the snowy, slippery road, they moved slowly. Other students occasionally passed by, inevitably giving the celebrity couple extra glances.

Wen Le was used to being watched since she was young and didn’t mind the scrutiny of others. However, this was the first time she felt self-conscious about being watched because of her relationship. She tightened her grip on Zhou Kao’s hand a bit more.

Zhou Kao, acting as if it was no big deal, squeezed Wen Le’s hand back. He had always wanted to let everyone know and wished for more of such attention.

The winters in Beijing are cold, and Wen Le would usually wrap herself in a down jacket, preferring to look like a dumpling rather than maintain a so-called graceful appearance. But this time, since they were going to meet Zhou Kao’s cousin, Wen Le naturally couldn’t allow herself to appear in the image of a “fat dumpling.” So, she made an effort to dress a bit more carefully.

Zhou Kao’s cousin, Pang Xingguang, the young master of Pang’s Group with businesses sprawling across the entertainment industry, didn’t want to inherit the family business. Instead, he aimed to become a director after attending an arts academy.

With the dream of becoming an artist, cousin Pang dressed the part, looking like an artist with his height of 185 cm, tanned skin, small pigtail, and mustache, wearing a floral shirt and loose black pants, a bit unkempt but with a good foundation.

After Zhou Kao introduced them, Pang Xingguang was visibly shocked and amazed upon seeing Wen Le, unable to believe his eyes.

    “This…this is your girlfriend?”

    “From your school?”

“Really? You’re not fooling me, cousin?”

    “Wow!”

Zhou Kao gave Pang Xingguang a warning glare. Realising his overreaction, Pang Xingguang coughed lightly and tried to smile warmly and elegantly at Wen Le, “Please don’t misunderstand, I was just too shocked.”

“I really didn’t expect it. Why are the girls at your school even prettier than our school’s beauty? Isn’t our school the one with the arts college?”

Pang Xingguang then teasingly hit Zhou Kao, asking, “Where did you find such a beautiful girlfriend? And she’s a top student from your school?”

“Sister-in-law, come be the leading lady in my movie! I guarantee you’ll become famous overnight. Please, I sincerely invite you…”

Before he could finish, Zhou Kao pushed him away, saying bluntly, “If you’re not eating, then leave.”

    Pang Xingguang snorted, “Crude!”

“Let’s not lower ourselves to his level, sister-in-law. Let me tell you about my movie project. Anyone who stars in it will become a star overnight.”

Zhou Kao then pushed Pang Xingguang’s head back, firmly stating, “Stop dreaming. She’s the sole heir of the Wen family.”

Zhou Kao deliberately emphasised the last few syllables to make his point clear.

Pang Xingguang, who didn’t catch it at first, asked, “What?”

    “The Wen family…”

Could it be the Wen family that just returned to Beijing?

    The sole heir?

The only successor of the Wen family?

Pang Xingguang’s eyes widened in shock as he suddenly remembered a conversation from a few days ago.

His parents were complaining about how his uncles and aunts were fussing over why the eldest son of the Zhou family would possibly marry into another family, questioning the couple’s decision.

His mother even laughed at the time, saying his uncles and aunts were overthinking. Now, it seemed, it wasn’t baseless worry after all but something Zhou Kao had orchestrated…

The Wen family, having been away from Beijing for many years, still had a well-established foundation that none of the old families could forget.

It had always been rumoured that the head of the Wen family, Wen Tianqi, was single with no heirs, leading to speculation about who would inherit the vast Wen estate. Little did anyone expect that the Wen family had a daughter…

It was a pity for Pang Xingguang that this sole heir of the Wen family had been “snatched away” by his cousin before she even became known to the public.

Tsk tsk tsk, what good luck Zhou Kao has.

Considering the Wen family’s scarce lineage, if there truly was only this one daughter, it wouldn’t be unreasonable for them to request the husband to marry into their family.

However, given that both the Zhou and Wen families were not ordinary, with Zhou Kao being the only son of Zhou Chengyun, who also needed to uphold his family’s name, it complicated matters.

All these thoughts flashed through Pang Xingguang’s mind for a moment, and he wisely kept his mouth shut. The notion of becoming instantly famous was unrealistic for someone from a family like Wen’s, which, similar to the Zhou family, would prefer its members to avoid the limelight, especially the heirs.

Pang Xingguang felt a sense of regret, surrounded by such high-quality resources yet unable to utilize them for the entertainment industry. The fact that his cousin, with such a striking appearance, could not join the entertainment circle was frustrating enough. Now Zhou Kao had found an equally stunning girlfriend from a family with significant influence, beyond Pang Xingguang’s reach.

As an aspiring director, the pain of not being able to cast the actors he desired was immense. Drinking his sorrows away, Pang Xingguang lamented: why were there so many hurdles and setbacks on his path to becoming a director?

Despite his grievances, Pang Xingguang, a chatterbox by nature, ensured there was never a dull moment during the meal, adeptly including Wen Le and maintaining the conversation. Even when Zhou Kao stepped away to take a call, he continued to chat with Wen Le about the current state of capital flow in the entertainment industry.

The restaurant was warm, a bit too warm, and Wen Le took off her coat, revealing a white dress with puff sleeves she was wearing underneath. The puff sleeves were designed with two zippers near the wrists.

One of the gold zippers dangled on her forearm, its zipper a coin-sized circle featuring the iconic decoration of Wen Le’s orchid production line—a circular orchid relief with a diamond in the centre. The zipper made a pleasant, crisp sound as it moved up and down with Wen Le’s movements.

Pang Xingguang glanced at it unconsciously, his gaze just sweeping over it briefly before he seemed to think of something and frowned slightly.

Seemingly recalling something, he casually remarked, “Sister-in-law, the pattern on your dress is a ‘dragon’ character, right?”

Wen Le looked at the orchid mark on her zipper and shook her head, “No, it should be ‘Song Mei’. Cousin, are you into orchids?”

Pang Xingguang took a sip of his drink and replied, “Not really, it’s just that the strokes of this orchid looked familiar to me, similar to an orchid painting at my cousin’s house. I initially thought someone took that painting and made it into a trademark. I didn’t expect it to actually be ‘Song Mei’.”

Pang Xingguang took a bite of his food and added, “Zhou Kao’s family has an orchid painting, but it’s not ‘Song Mei’, it’s ‘dragon’. It looks a lot like the orchid pattern on your zipper.”

Wen Le casually asked, “Who painted it?”

Pang Xingguang said, “I think it was Mr. Yu Shi*.”

After the meal, Zhou Kao’s cousin had to leave first due to some matters.

As the exam week was approaching, both academic and study schedules were getting busier, not just for Wen Le but Zhou Kao as well. So, after spending a little time together, they left.

Thinking about what Pang Xingguang had said that evening, Wen Le called her grandfather.

A few days after Wen Le and Zhou Kao met Pang Xingguang, Su Zhenzhen sought her out, specifically, Su Zhenzhen called Wen Le to arrange a meeting.

Wen Le didn’t find Su Zhenzhen’s actions strange at all.

Since the entire school knew about her relationship with Zhou Kao, including Sun Youmei, it wasn’t surprising to Wen Le that Su Zhenzhen knew about her too.

It had been a long time since Wen Le had seen or even thought of the name Su Zhenzhen. It seemed that ever since the last mixer, where Zhou Kao had said something to Su Zhenzhen, she hadn’t bothered Wen Le and Zhou Kao anymore.

Wen Le didn’t know what exactly Zhou Kao had said to Su Zhenzhen, but it probably completely discouraged Su Zhenzhen. Wen Le thought Su Zhenzhen had given up, but what she didn’t expect was that although Su Zhenzhen had given up, she wanted Wen Le to give up as well.

Now, Su Zhenzhen seemed to have the extreme mentality of “even though I can’t have Zhou Kao, you lowlifes can’t have him either.

Wen Le didn’t refuse Su Zhenzhen’s request to meet. Although she didn’t know what Su Zhenzhen was planning, she felt it was better to resolve such matters sooner rather than later. She didn’t want someone so inexplicable to interfere with her relationship with Zhou Kao.

Su Zhenzhen probably wanted to intimidate Wen Le by inviting her to a high-end restaurant owned by a Spaniard.

Wen Le, unfazed, gladly accepted the invitation.

Arriving early, Wen Le mentioned Su Zhenzhen’s name, and a waiter led her to a table in an elegantly decorated setting, where a small group performed classical music on stage.

Wen Le noticed many foreign waiters here, who spoke a bit of Chinese but mainly communicated in English and Spanish.

It wasn’t long before Su Zhenzhen arrived.

With her haughty demeanour and overly extravagant attire, Su Zhenzhen looked like a warrior entering the battlefield, seemingly determined to intimidate Wen Le. Dressed in an expensive Chanel haute couture, carrying a Hermès bag, and sitting across Wen Le with her Louboutin shoes and a diamond-encrusted ladies’ watch, she was the epitome of walking money.

Su Zhenzhen sat down gracefully, and when the waiter presented the menu, she didn’t order but handed it to Wen Le with a smile, asking, “Would you like something to drink?”

The menu was entirely in Spanish, as Wen Le discovered.

Su Zhenzhen watched her with a smug smile, seemingly waiting for Wen Le to make a fool of herself.

Wenle glanced at the menu, smiled back, and thought to herself: Childish tricks.

As Wen Le closed the menu, Su Zhenzhen’s smile grew more triumphant.

Then, Wen Le spoke fluently in perfect Spanish.

The smile dropped from Su Zhenzhen’s face, disappointed from not seeing Wen Le’s embarrassment.

After the waiter left, Su Zhenzhen, while picking up a napkin, remarked, “Well prepared, I see.”

Wen Le simply smiled, saying nothing.

She hadn’t expected to live out a clichéd TV drama scenario but guessed Su Zhenzhen’s intention was to show the vast gap between their worlds by bringing her to such an upscale Western restaurant, where a cup of coffee could cost hundreds, hoping to intimidate her into backing down.

Unfortunately for Su Zhenzhen, she chose a Spanish restaurant.

What kind of people were Wen Le’s grandparents?

They were renowned intellectuals even during the Republic of China era, and their granddaughter was no less exceptional.

After compulsory education, there’s hardly anyone who doesn’t know of Mr. Yu Shi. Those more familiar with his work know that Mr. Yu Shi wasn’t just a brilliant writer but also knowledgeable in calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, astronomy, geography, and Chinese studies, and was said to be fluent in several foreign languages.

Wen Le never attended preschool; instead, she was homeschooled by her grandparents from three until she started elementary school at seven.

While others had ordinary preschool teachers, Wen Le’s tutors were respected experts in their fields.

While other children were introduced to bilingual education early on, Wen Le was immersed in various foreign languages by her grandparents.

Unfortunately, Wen Le wasn’t a natural-born genius and couldn’t reach the level her grandfather did, but she managed to master English and could even stumble through simple conversations in French and Spanish with her grandfather.

Wen Le didn’t consider herself to be particularly intelligent; all her accolades were the result of hard work.

Thus, Su Zhenzhen’s initial attempt to unsettle Wen Le inevitably fell flat.

But Su Zhenzhen assumed Wen Le had merely scrambled to prepare by looking things up on her phone after arriving at the restaurant.

Wen Le sat there, smiling at Su Zhenzhen.

Su Zhenzhen idly toyed with the diamond clasp on her platinum bag, appraising Wen Le.

Wen Le spoke up, “Miss Su, let’s not play these games. If you have something to say, just be direct. It’ll save us both some time, don’t you think?”

Su Zhenzhen’s smile vanished, and she looked at Wen Le with a mocking sneer, “Does being with Zhou Kao make you feel proud? Seeing Zhou Kao choose you, someone from a poor background, over someone wealthy like me, must feel like a triumph, right? Do you think you’re just one step away from marrying into wealth and changing your social status, becoming a lady of leisure?”

Su Zhenzhen, speaking to herself, chuckled, “Do you really think the Zhou family would accept a gold-digger like you? They would never allow Zhou Kao to be with someone like you.”

“Wow, Miss Su, do you realise you’re acting like the stereotypical meddlesome mother-in-law from a soap opera, as an outsider no less?” Wen Le retorted with a smile, “What’s next? Are you going to offer me five million to leave Zhou Kao?”

Su Zhenzhen was visibly infuriated, her hand raised as if to slap Wen Le, but then she seemed to reconsider and restrained herself. Lowering her hand, she coldly stated, “There’s no need for such a strong reaction. I’m only speaking the truth. Just listen to me.”

    Wen Le: …

So, who’s really having a strong reaction here?

Su Zhenzhen continued, “Even if Zhou Kao’s parents might not object, the rest of the Zhou family certainly would. Zhou Kao is the brightest future of the Zhou family. Neither Old Master Zhou nor any other elder would allow him to be with someone of mismatched social standing.”

“Someone like Zhou Kao, a young master, is expected to marry into an equal, traditional wealthy family. Besides, Zhou Kao’s family has strict rules; they wouldn’t keep you as a mistress, nor would he divorce for you. Many girls dream of marrying into wealth, but we’ve grown tired of such schemes. The only ones who fall for them are fools and the worthless. The truly discerning scions of wealthy families won’t even consider you; at most, you’re just a fling.”

“Don’t start with how times have changed. Wealthy and ordinary families are worlds apart. Maybe I can’t have Zhou Kao, but you’ll never end up with him either. Dreaming of marrying into the Zhou family is pure fantasy.”

“I suggest you see the reality sooner and collaborate with me. Clear up any misunderstandings Zhou Kao has about me, and I can introduce you to other wealthy heirs, ensuring you marry well. How does that sound? You’re a smart woman. Chasing Zhou Kao is a waste of time, but working with me could secure your place in a wealthy family, maybe not as wealthy as Zhou Kao’s, but glamorous enough for a lifetime.”

“Wen Le, you’re intelligent. Think it over.”

At that moment, the waiter arrived with the coffee, and Wen Le remained silent.

Today, Wen Le purposely wore the same white bubble-sleeve dress that she had on during her last meeting with Pang Xingguang when she met with Su Zhenzhen.

As the waiter was serving dessert, Wen Le remained silent, casually fiddling with the two coin-sized zipper pulls on her bubble sleeves. This action of playing with the zipper pulls was eerily similar to Su Zhenzhen’s earlier fidgeting with the diamond clasp on her bag.

If Pang Xingguang, a straightforward man, noticed the zipper pulls, how could Su Zhenzhen, a woman, not?

Su Zhenzhen looked over and saw the somewhat conspicuous orchid mark on the zipper pulls, feeling it looked… familiar…

Suddenly, Su Zhenzhen’s pupils shrank as she remembered something.

    Tan Xiangxiang…

Tan Xiangxiang was a girl of the same age from Su Zhenzhen’s social circle, but Tan Xiangxiang came from a slightly better background, always acting superior around Su Zhenzhen, who could never stand her.

It seems natural to pay attention to one’s rivals, and Su Zhenzhen inevitably kept tabs on Tan Xiangxiang.

She would check Tan Xiangxiang’s account, “Tan Xiang Very Fragrant,” several times a week to stay updated on her rival and to mock and ridicule her.

How could she not know about the incident that made Tan Xiangxiang a hot topic on Weibo and even trending not too long ago?

The Tan family was an older and more established family than the Su family, and indeed, Tan Xiangxiang knew more than her, a fact that Su Zhenzhen reluctantly acknowledged.

Su Zhenzhen had vaguely heard about Le Yin but Tan Xiangxiang had always boasted about her grandmother being a member of the Le Yin society, and when Su Zhenzhen tried to inquire about it, Tan Xiangxiang refused to divulge any details.

Thus, it was only from trending searches that Su Zhenzhen learned what Le Yin really represented.

Le Yin belonged to the Tianyin Group, but Su Zhenzhen was not familiar with Tianyin, so she turned to her father for information.

Her father mentioned it was a very prestigious family, as influential as the Zhou family, and admitted, “That’s an old nobility we can’t aspire to.”

When Su Zhenzhen asked her father how one could become a member of the Le Yin society and have a production line of their own, her father told her to abandon the thought, saying even Tan Xiangxiang shouldn’t bother with such dreams. Unless she married into a family like the Zhou family and gained recognition from that old nobility circle, then she may have a chance.

Only then did Su Zhenzhen realise the vast distance between their family and that exclusive circle.

Scenes flashed before Su Zhenzhen’s eyes.

Su Zhenzhen stared at the orchid pattern on Wen Le’s dress, identical to the enlarged orchid mark she saw in a trending post…

Disbelieving, Su Zhenzhen stared at Wen Le, hoping she would say it was just a copy, but how could a copy be made so quickly?

Wen Le, however, was smiling, gently touching the zipper pull, and said, “You recognize it?”

“This is Song Mei, along with the Dragon, they are known as the twin jewels of the national orchids.”

“It is said that on the day I was born, my grandfather, inspired by excitement, drew two sketches of flowers and plants, one called Song Mei and the other called Dragon. These two sketches were brimming with divine inspiration and vitality, making them among my grandfather’s rare masterpieces. My grandmother saw this as a good omen and loved both sketches very much. She used them as the original designs for two series of Le Yin: the Song Mei and the Dragon series.”

“My grandmother attributed the Song Mei series to me, making it mine, while the Dragon series remains sealed to this day. My grandmother intends to unveil the Dragon series on the day of my engagement, as the first engagement gift I will give to my beloved.”

Wen Le touched the zipper pull gently and said with a smile, “Isn’t it romantic?”

“Even more romantic is that ten years ago, my grandfather gave the Dragon sketch to a close friend. After the friend passed away, the Dragon sketch passed through many hands until four years ago, when Master Zhou from the Zhou family bought it for 12 million. Coincidentally, when Mr. Zhou asked Zhou Kao what he wanted for his birthday that year, Zhou Kao pointed to that orchid sketch and said, ‘I want that.’ So Mr. Zhou gave the Dragon sketch to Zhou Kao.”

“Four years ago… It was also the year Zhou Kao and I met in a remote town.”

Wen Le gently played with the zipper pull on her hand, looking at Su Zhenzhen with a smile, and asked, “Now, don’t you even think Zhou Kao should be mine?”

  • A Love Letter to Wei Lai Chapter 12

A Love Letter to Wei Lai Chapter 12

The First Day of the Contract

After leaving the blind date, Zhou Sujin went straight back to the office.

He instructed Uncle Yan, “Let her use the car tonight. You drive.”

Back in his office, he had just sat down and hadn’t even opened his laptop when he received a call from his aunt questioning him.

Ning Rujiang had just returned from playing cards, and among the people she played with was the mother of Zhou Sujin’s blind date. It turned out her nephew had rejected the girl after eating hotpot with her.

The rejection was thorough, leaving no room for any delusions.

Ning Rujiang couldn’t understand and was so angry that she mocked her nephew, “Did you realize her choice of broth and dipping sauce didn’t match yours, so you decided your values didn’t align?”

Zhou Sujin didn’t argue back, allowing his aunt to vent fully.

Zhou Sujin: “I simply followed your instructions to show the other party the utmost respect.”

Ning Rujiang was almost unable to retort. She couldn’t understand; the girl was so outstanding and pretty! If her nephew didn’t fancy someone like her, what kind of girl was he looking for?

Zhou Sujin: “I’ll bring her over for you to see if there’s a chance.”

Ning Rujiang caught on and asked three consecutive questions, “What do you mean? Do you have a girlfriend? Since when?”

Zhou Sujin carefully considered how to respond so as not to arouse doubts from his aunt.

Ning Rujiang quickly calmed down, squashing her nephew’s little schemes in advance. “If you found a girlfriend just to deal with blind dates, don’t bring her over.”

Zhou Sujin didn’t say much more; some things were better left unsaid.

Ning Rujiang had to admit that her nephew’s few words had successfully piqued her curiosity.

Since her nephew wasn’t willing to divulge voluntarily, she had to press him a little.

Zhou Sujin wasn’t making excuses to hang up. He had missed several hours of work due to the blind date, so there was still some work unfinished.

Working overtime until 9:10 p.m., he asked Uncle Yan, “When will she be done?”

Uncle Yan: “Just dropped Miss Wei off at the restaurant. The regional manager she was meeting with had a last-minute meeting tonight. The meeting just ended 10 min ago, and he just came out of HQ.”

Zhou Sujin pondered for a moment. “Come pick me up first.”

Uncle Yan arrived in less than 20 minutes, and Zhou Sujin left the office.

Once in the car, he didn’t specify where to go. Uncle Yan wasn’t sure and didn’t dare to presume, so he asked for instructions, “President Zhou, are we going to pick up Miss Wei?”

Zhou Sujin responded with a simple “En.”

Uncle Yan drove to the restaurant where Wei Lai was meeting someone. The parking spot he had parked before was now taken by someone else. He informed Wei Lai, “Miss Wei, the car is parked in the spot diagonally across from the restaurant. Walk about 50 meters north from the restaurant, and you’ll see it.”

He didn’t inform Wei Lai that Zhou Sujin was also in the car.

Wei Lai had just met with Qi Linsheng, and they still hadn’t gotten into the main topic of discussing their partnership yet.

Qi Linsheng’s phone kept ringing tonight one after another, all from the general distributors of Happy Lemon. Unable to ignore the calls, her conversation with Qi Linsheng was constantly interrupted.

Qi Linsheng said into his phone, “Let’s discuss this in detail tomorrow morning. I’m meeting with someone right now.”

It was unclear what the other party said, and he hung up the phone.

Wei Lai learned tonight that all the regional managers held a third-quarter meeting at HQ with adjustments to market policies, which prompted various general distributors from different areas to call in to inquire about the specific details.

Afraid their conversation would be interrupted again, Wei Lai directly handed Qi Linsheng a sales report she had rushed to prepare overnight, along with relevant image explanations.

    “Mr. Qi.”

Qi Linsheng, puzzled, glanced at Wei Lai before setting his phone aside to take the report.

The report detailed the expected purchase volume of each snack for the upcoming year for Wei Lai Supermarket. However, that wasn’t the main focus. It was the last column indicating the promotion fees that could be allocated to Happy Lemon based on the actual sales of each snack.

Their supermarket would earn slightly less, sacrificing a portion of their profits for promotional activities. The promotional plans were also attached at the end, providing a comprehensive and clear overview.

Apart from the promotional sales, each supermarket store would display Happy Lemon products in prime spots for free, and two prominent window advertising spaces would also be allocated for Happy Lemon at no charge.

The report consisted of two pages. He flipped to the second page, quickly scanning it from top to bottom.

Per usual practice, promotional sales and advertising fees were covered by Happy Lemon. The supermarkets were not expected to bear these costs.

This was Wei Lai’s gesture of sincerity for a partnership.

Qi Linsheng flipped back to the first page, looking at Wei Lai again. Originally, he hadn’t intended to meet with her.

The first time Qi Linsheng spoke with this woman in front of him, he couldn’t imagine what she looked like, nor did he care about her appearance. He only felt that she was confident, tactful, articulate, and pleasant to talk to, which prompted him to agree to meet her.

Seeing her in person tonight, her appearance was remarkably striking with an innate temperament that overshadowed her capabilities.

He folded the report and set it aside. “Forgive my curiosity, but what did you do before?”

    Wei Lai: “Venture capital.”

    Qi Linsheng: “No wonder.”

Wei Lai stroked while the iron was hot. “I was involved in several projects of Happy Lemon in the new development zone of Jiang City.”

The day Zhang Yanxin and Mu Di got engaged, the bonus that the finance department deposited to her account was from one of Happy Lemon’s projects.

Qi Linsheng drank a few sips of warm water. She wouldn’t mention Happy Lemon’s projects without reason, and he had a rough idea of what she was getting at.

Wei Lai continued, “I heard that the new factory that Happy Lemon built in Jiang City’s Industrial Park two years ago has entered the trial production stage?”

Qin Linsheng nodded. “En, the new products will be launched by the end of the year.”

Wei Lai: “The pre-launch campaign for these new products has been exceptionally successful. It’s gone viral before even launching, with one snack in particular being eagerly awaited by everyone online. All our supermarket stores have already cleared out a row of shelves specifically for these new products.”

Her flattery came effortlessly to her.

She raised her wine glass in a toast to him. “Mr. Qi, don’t forget to prioritize our supermarket for orders when the time comes. Let’s all make money together.”

Qi Linsheng smiled but said nothing, drinking the toast she offered.

    The atmosphere finally lightened somewhat.

Even when dinner was over, Wei Lai didn’t ask him whether he could provide inventory to their supermarket.

As they walked toward the elevator lobby after leaving the restaurant, she chatted casually, “Mr. Qi, when will you be visiting Jiang City? When you come, you should visit our supermarket to inspect the market. We expect all of our stores to finish renovating by the end of next year.”

This time, Qi Linsheng’s response wasn’t so ambiguous. “I look forward to visiting the supermarket.”

As they bid farewell to each other downstairs, Qi Linsheng’s colleague arrived to pick him up. Their destination was out of the way from where she was staying, so she politely declined the offer of a ride.

“Miss Wei.” Uncle Yan wasn’t in the car; he had been waiting outside the restaurant the whole time. He extinguished his half-smoked cigarette. “I sent you a message, but you didn’t see it.”

Wei Lai apologized, “I had my phone on Do Not Disturb while discussing some matters just now. I’m sorry for making you wait so long.”

    “No worries.”

Uncle Yan gestured to the north. “The car is over there.”

Uncle Yan took a few steps and then turned back. “President Zhou is also here.”

It was strange, Wei Lai felt apologetic when Uncle Yan waited for her, but she didn’t have the same reaction to Zhou Sujin waiting for her. In fact, upon hearing him in the car, she couldn’t help but quicken her pace.

Opening the car door, she was greeted by a familiar tall figure.

He didn’t turn around at the sound, still focused on his laptop screen.

Wei Lai got into the car. “Thank you for coming to pick me up so late.”

Zhou Sujin: “It’s nothing; just fulfilling my duty as host. And also to discuss some matters with you.”

He saved the file. “Is the partnership settled?” He glanced at her from the corner of his eye.

Wei Lai: “It should be, not a big problem.”

Uncle Yan started the car, heading to drop Wei Lai off at her hotel first.

Wei Lai waited for him to discuss the contract, but he just continued working. Perhaps it was because Uncle Yan was at the front, making it inconvenient to chat.

Zhou Sujin glanced at her. “If you have nothing else to do, rest for a while. Don’t feel embarrassed.”

Although Wei Lai had caught up on sleep during the day, her sleep hadn’t been very deep, in a half-dream state. In the past, she would have felt awkward sleeping in someone else’s car, but now that their relationship had changed, she needed to gradually adapt.

Without further hesitation, she leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes.

Uncle Yan parked the car in front of the hotel entrance, and Wei Lai was sound asleep.

Zhou Sujin called out, “Wei Lai.”

His voice wasn’t particularly loud, and Wei Lai didn’t respond.

He called out again, gently shaking her shoulder.

Wei Lai hovered between waking and sleeping. Feeling a hand on her shoulder, that meant someone was beside her, and reflexively, she leaned toward Zhou Sujin.

Soon after came the fragrance from her hair, a refreshing scent.

In her subconsciousness, Wei Lai grabbed onto the clothes of the person beside her, seeking something to hold on to for security. Her hand fumbled around his waist.

It was only at this moment that Zhou Sujin remembered the pros of captain’s chairs.

Zhou Sujin’s voice was cold and stern, “Wei Lai!”

A chilly tone sounded from above, startling Wei Lai, who was just about to wake up. With a start, she realized what she had done and quickly jerked back.

She quickly glanced at the driver’s seat in panic. Fortunately, Uncle Yan wasn’t in the car; it was unclear when he had gotten out.

    “I’m sorry, President Zhou.”

Zhou Sujin wasn’t bothered and changed the subject. “Two years from today, our relationship will automatically end.”

Wei Lai nodded. On the first day of the contract, she had already caused trouble. She was now completely awake, devoid of drowsiness.

Zhou Sujin: “There’s no need for regular contact. If you need anything, just call me. When you come to Beijing on business, you can come find me.”

Wei Lai voiced her concerns which she had previously overlooked. She couldn’t leave Jiang City to develop her career in Beijing. “Being long-distance and unfamiliar with each other, my pretense of being your girlfriend might easily be seen through by your family.”

Zhou Sujin: “That won’t happen. From now on, I’ll come to Jiang City to see you every one or two months.”

  • I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 69

I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 69

    Formidable Woman

Cheng Hui burst into laughter while holding her phone, “Hahaha, now the whole internet is feasting on your lovey-dovey moments, hahaha.”

Wen Le suddenly turned and stared at Cheng Hui. Cheng Hui, feeling unnerved under Wen Le’s scrutiny, asked, “What’s up?”

Wen Le skeptically assessed Cheng Hui with suspicion and said, “Why do I feel like this is your doing?”

Cheng Hui widened her eyes in an attempt to look innocent, “How could it be? I’m a lurking expert, okay?”

Wen Le still didn’t seem convinced and continued to scrutinise Cheng Hui.

Cheng Hui said, “It really wasn’t me.”

Wen Le finally shifted her gaze away after staring at Cheng Hui for a while. Cheng Hui patted her chest lightly behind Wen Le, laughing and thinking to herself: Really, it wasn’t me who posted that. I just happened to share the news about the ring with a friend, and that friend coincidentally made the post. It definitely has nothing to do with me.

Seeing that Wen Le was no longer suspicious and headed to the restroom with her phone, Cheng Hui took out her phone to read the comments. She enjoyed the groundhogs’ screams and various critiques. Back in the day, she had to endure the bombardment of dog food alone, which was genuinely hard, but now, haha!

Cheng Hui found some balance in seeing others suffer in the post. However, the thread contained not only the joyful sounds of groundhogs but also some discordant voices.

    – One hundred thousand dollars? Wow, Zhou Kao’s wealthy and handsome image is confirmed.

    – Wasn’t it always assumed that Zhou Kao was wealthy and handsome? What is there to question? You can look up the Simpson Private High School where Zhou Kao attended high school. The tuition there is more than an ordinary couple’s annual income. It’s undoubtedly a gathering place for rich second-generation and children of the powerful.

    – Zhou Kao has always been low-key. His clothes don’t reveal anything, and his car is just a Volkswagen Magotan worth two or three hundred thousand.

    – The commenter above probably didn’t see the Magotan with the Beijing A license plate.

    – I suggest you go back and watch the video of them fighting. There is a black sports car parked in the parking lot that seems to belong to Zhou Kao. Someone saw Zhou Kao getting out of that car, but there were no pictures. But in fact, this makes sense. What were they doing in the parking lot? If Zhou Kao’s Magotan is not there, it means he was driving another car.

Cheng Hui looked at the comments, tutting twice. She took a bite of an apple and said to Wen Le, “Your Zhou Kao is too low-key. Wearing clothes without any obvious brands, driving a two or three hundred thousand Magotan – that’s low-key! That’s profound! It’s like, OMG!”

Wen Le chuckled, “Then you probably don’t know that this supposedly low-key person with a two-hundred-thousand car wears a ninety-thousand-dollar watch.”

Cheng Hui choked on her apple at Wen Le’s revelation, coughing dramatically. Wen Le shot her a glance and went over to pat her back, and Cheng Hui, red-faced, took a while to recover. She took a deep breath, pressed down her surprise, and said, “You… this… do all you rich people have to be so unconventional?”

Wen Le pondered for a moment, thinking that she, who had considered her family poor while living in the mountains for many years, probably had no grounds to refute.

Cheng Hui didn’t really care about Wen Le’s response. She remembered something else and asked, “Is that McLaren really Zhou Kao’s?”

Wen Le nodded, “Seems like it.”

Curious, Cheng Hui asked, “Why did he suddenly drive a sports car that day? For a romantic date like in a drama?”

Wen Le looked a bit embarrassed, “No, it’s just that his Magotan ran out of gas…”

    Cheng Hui remained expressionless, “Oh…”

Cheng Hui said with determination, “CP fans won’t accept such absurd reasons! I unilaterally declare that he deliberately drove the sports car to take you on a special date!”

    Wen Le: !

#What to do if your roommate is a CP fan of you and your significant other, urgent online#

Cheng Hui waved her hand, “Alright, go freshen up. I’ll continue browsing the forums, hehehe.”

Wen Le cautiously said, “I remember you don’t like this kind of lovey-dovey stuff.”

Cheng Hui, with a forced smile, replied, “Oh, right, I don’t like it.”

Wen Le: Shouldn’t she control that weird smile on her face when saying such things?

Cheng Hui shooed her away, “Okay, go do your stuff. I’ll keep browsing the forums.”

    Wen Le: “Oh.”

As Wen Le turned around, Cheng Hui’s mouth curled up in a strange smile. She quickly switched to a WeChat conversation on her phone.

Hui: Got some gossip! Come quickly!

After sharing some half-true sugar with her girlfriends, Cheng Hui ran back to check the forum comments. Initially, she wanted some comfort from other users, but the comments left her a bit annoyed.

-Cried while searching for the price of that sports car. Not only is the person beautiful, the car is beautiful, and the price is even more beautiful… Is Zhou Kao the male lead in some fairy tale?

-So, the girl from the slums, Wen Le, is going to marry into a wealthy family? Not surprising at all, rather expected. Ambition and beauty of this level in a girl naturally point to marrying into wealth, right?

-Throwing out rings worth tens of thousands; Zhou Kao is indeed generous. Today, I saw him giving Wen Le several top-notch luxuries, one from Chanel, one from Dior, and one from Hermes. Envious sigh.

Cheng Hui got a bit angry for a moment but then strangely smiled.

Looking at the sarcastic comments, Cheng Hui couldn’t help but shed some tears of sympathy for these people.

Hahaha, they probably don’t know that this girl they see as scheming to marry into wealth is actually the sole heir of the super-wealthy Wen family, the Miss of Tianyin Group, and the future employer of some of these people.

Cheng Hui’s imagination ran wild as she envisioned a grand drama unfolding.

[The online lemon trolls aimed their sour comments and derogatory remarks at Wen Le, suggesting that she was trying to marry into wealth using her looks, labeling her as a scheming gold digger. After graduating from university, she fought through various struggles and competitions to enter Tianyin Group. Suddenly, one day, she encountered Wen Tianqi, the head of the Wen family, inspecting the company with their supposed sole heir, the prince… no, princess… wasn’t that Wen Le, whom they had accused of wanting to marry into wealth? Then, Wen Le introduced herself with a smile, “Hello everyone, I’m Wen Le, the Wen from Wen, and the Le from music.”]

“Poof!” Cheng Hui couldn’t help but burst into laughter, rolling around on the bed despite not being the protagonist.

Watching Cheng Hui’s antics, Wen Le remained impassive, thinking that when Bao Xiaofan and Man Qingxuan returned later, there would be more commotion. She wondered how Sun Youmei would react.

Sure enough, when Sun Youmei and Bao Xiaofan returned to the dorm, there were two more prairie dogs in the room.

Perhaps Sun Youmei had learned from the forums about Wen Le and Zhou Kao being together before returning to the dorm. Her face didn’t look good when she returned, and it turned even worse as she saw Wen Le packing up the three bags of gifts. She looked so jealous that her eyes turned red.

Watching Wen Le’s triumphant demeanor in love made Sun Youmei feel both jealous and angry. Whether it was jealousy or anger that surged in her heart as she watched Wen Le pack up the gifts from her boyfriend was unclear.

Imagining herself in the past being affectionate with her boyfriend, receiving luxury gifts from him, and being envied and praised by others, everything had changed now. She lost her boyfriend, lost the luxury gifts, and Wen Le replaced her, basking in glory.

Sun Youmei felt like her position had been usurped and imitated by Wen Le, making it impossible for her to smile. So, in the cheerful atmosphere of the dorm, she sarcastically said, “Congratulations, turns out you’re amazing.”

Everyone present sensed something was off with her words, and there was a moment of awkward silence. Wen Le couldn’t be bothered and changed the subject with Cheng Hui.

The next day was a Saturday and Cheng Hui had slept in, which was rare for her. When she woke up, the dorm was surprisingly empty. It then occurred to her that Bao Xiaofan and Man Qingxuan had found temporary weekend jobs.

Cheng Hui got out of bed to freshen up, and Wen Le, hearing the noise, sat up on her bed. The prominent dark circles under her fair complexion were particularly noticeable.

Cheng Hui was startled, “What’s wrong with you?”

Wen Le scratched her head, “Insomnia.”

    Cheng Hui asked, “Why insomnia?”

Cheng Hui couldn’t help but think of those sour comments on the forum insinuating that Wen Le wanted to marry into wealth. Could it be that Wen Le had seen those comments and was upset, unable to sleep?

Cheng Hui felt uncomfortable at the thought. If Wen Le, who frequently browsed the forums, was constantly disturbed by such comments, it would be too hard for her.

Wen Le didn’t say anything, but she looked distressed as she ran her fingers through her hair.

Cheng Hui became more convinced that Wen Le had seen that post, so she tentatively said, “Did you see someone on the forum saying you’re…”

Wen Le sighed in frustration, “Yes, they said Zhou Kao gave me luxury goods, and it made me realise something belatedly.”

Wen Le felt particularly disheartened, “The things Zhou Kao gave me were bought with his own money. But if I want to buy him something of similar value, I have to use the money from my dad’s account. Although I aspire to support a boyfriend, the premise is to support myself through my own efforts… But now, even if I want to buy a gift for my boyfriend, I have to use money from my dad, and I feel so ashamed.”

Wen Le sighed, “I just realised that Zhou Kao and I are not economically equal, and I feel a lot of pressure.”

Cheng Hui listened in surprise, “So, you couldn’t sleep because you felt pressured that Zhou Kao earns more money than you?”

Wen Le shook her head, “Not exactly. Mainly, I spent the whole night thinking about ways to make money. Although I can’t match Zhou Kao’s wealth in the short term, I want to, at least, reach a point where I don’t have to worry about giving him gifts in the future.”

    Cheng Hui: …

This woman is too formidable. And strangely, how did such a strong-willed woman manage to get out of being single?

Cheng Hui asked, “So, have you figured it out?”

Wen Le nodded and gestured with her thumb and index finger, “I somewhat have an idea.”

Cheng Hui was speechless, “So, you weren’t upset and unable to sleep because people online called you a gold digger?”

Wen Le waved her hand, “They’re not wrong; I’m pretty gold-digging now. Before, I lost motivation and purpose when my family suddenly became rich. But after thinking all night, I’ve realised my new goal: I want to economically suppress Zhou Kao!”

Wen Le was somewhat excited, and her eyes were filled with determination, even with the prominent dark circles.

Cheng Hui looked at Wen Le and muttered, “You look like you joined a revolutionary organisation…”

Excitedly, Wen Le jumped off the bed and hugged Cheng Hui, “Ah, I’m so happy, dorm mate! You must find a boyfriend who can inspire your fighting spirit. This feeling is really amazing. I’m filled with strength now; I can go another three hundred rounds with him!”

Cheng Hui declined, “No, a salty fish like me only suits a chill lifestyle approach, and I’ll say it again, I’m anti-marriage!”

Saying this, Cheng Hui escaped from Wen Le’s embrace, grumbling, “So, fighting is your way of expressing love? It’s true that fighting is loving… I’ve seen it now…”

Wen Le, who had found a new direction and motivation, was brimming with joy. It seemed like she needed to vent her emotions, so she performed an impromptu ballet in the dorm. She danced gracefully, pirouetting on her toes without stopping.

Wen Le’s elegant and cheerful dance made her look like a graceful swan, even without music and a ballet skirt.

Finally, Wen Le executed a perfect split jump in the air, landed steadily, and even bowed gracefully twice.

Cheng Hui put down her phone, opened the video playback, and exclaimed, “You can actually do ballet?”

Wen Le laughed and made a heart gesture, “Don’t fall in love with me~”

  • I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 68

I’m Actually Really Rich Chapter 68

    Rings Exposed

The original poster probably saw the scene of Wen Le and Zhou Kao hugging and kissing at the door when Wen Le came out to send Zhou Kao off after her performance and directly took a sneak shot of it.

In the photo, Zhou Kao held Wen Le tightly in his arms, and the 18-centimetre height difference between the two made Wen Le look petite. The scene where Wen Le stood on tiptoes to accept Zhou Kao’s kiss was unexpectedly romantic, with the backlighting adding a touch of beauty, like a scene from an idol drama.

The poster arrived late at the New Year’s Eve party but unexpectedly encountered such a scene.

“It seemed like Zhou Kao was about to leave early, and Wen Le came out to send him off. They were being affectionate, hugging each other for a while, and even kissed before Zhou Kao left. After Zhou Kao got into the car, Wen Le stood there waiting until the car disappeared before returning to the theatre.

Oh my god, I’m going to be overwhelmed by their sweetness. The couple that everyone shipped has actually become a reality! They are sooooo sweet! Damn! I mean, seriously, the explosion of their godly looks… Their children would be so beautiful???

    【Photos】【Photos】【Photos】”

The evening was the most active time for gossip-loving netizens. Upon hearing the gossip, they almost instinctively gathered their friends to join in.

The post quickly rose to the top of the hot list, along with the poll that was posted at the same time.

#Exposing those flowers and grasses* who couldn’t get into a relationship during their four years of university.

*flowers and grasses is Chinese slang for the prettiest girl and most handsome guy in whatever school setting they’re in

And the first and second places in the poll were Zhou Kao and Wen Le.

The story’s progression was so surreal that initially, the first reaction of netizens to the post was disbelief. Is the OP just seeking attention by fabricating this?

Even the first two pages of replies were questioning the authenticity of the news. Even when the OP posted the kissing photo of the two, some still doubted its authenticity.

But as more and more photos were posted by the OP, the netizens were left dumbfounded by the reality.

    67th comment: WTF!

    68th comment: WTF!

69th comment: It hurts… Weren’t these two at odds with each other?

70th comment: Hahaha, their gossip is always juicy and delicious.

71st comment: Ahhh! They are really together!!! Mom, the couple I shipped has actually come true!

    72nd comment: Love-hate relationship…

73rd comment: The entertainment circle is really chaotic. Didn’t these two just have a fight and get on the hot list a while ago? Did I remember wrongly? And now they’re together?

So the post about the two initially fighting was bumped up again.

That night, the top hot posts were all about the deeds of Wen Le and Zhou Kao. From how they creatively rejected suitors to speculations about whether they had some unknown emotional trauma or sexual orientation issues, to their fight and subsequent reconciliation, to the netizens betting on which of the two was least likely to get into a relationship, and so on.

Only upon going down this memory lane did the netizens realise that there were actually so many incidents involving the two. And among these nostalgic posts, one post unexpectedly stood out, hanging in the top five of the hottest posts.

#Today is definitely one of the most magical days ever.

Clicking into the thread, it was full of complaints, as if the idea of the two being together was something hard to accept.

The BBS forum buzzed for most of the night, with discussions about the two still showing no signs of stopping after the New Year’s Eve party ended. Since it was late after the New Year’s Eve party, Wen Le didn’t go home but rested directly in the dormitory. Coming out of the shower, Wen Le heard laughter in the dormitory and asked in confusion, “What’s going on?”

Cheng Hui said, “Your relationship has been exposed.”

“Come here, let me show you, they were absolutely shocked.”

Cheng Hui flipped through her phone to show Wen Le, “Look, the first few pages are full of your glorious deeds. You two are indeed the top players on the BBS, hahaha!”

“Hahaha, look at this, it’s interesting. Some gossipers have started a new post, and they actually crowned you and Zhou Kao as the most diligent gossip farmers of the year. The evaluation says that you two are diligent in producing gossip, and the gossip is both big and delicious. It has been rated as conscientious gossip farmers, and this post is specially issued as encouragement.”

Wen Le laughed uncontrollably, “What kind of nonsense is this?”

After joking for a while, Wen Le remembered something and asked, “How’s the online comment section?”

Cheng Hui hesitated, glanced at Wen Le, and sneakily assessed Wen Le’s expression, seeming to hesitate whether to speak or not.

Seeing Cheng Hui’s hesitation, Wen Le said, “It’s okay, I almost expected what their reaction would be. Just tell me the truth.”

Cheng Hui honestly said, “With so many suitors pursuing you and Zhou Kao, there are definitely many people who can’t accept it. That’s not a big deal. The main thing is that you two just had a fight. Your fans scolded Zhou Kao for being a scumbag who hits women, and Zhou Kao’s fans scolded you, saying you’re a fierce old lady. Both sides were cursing fiercely, but then you two suddenly got together. So they feel like you’re deceiving them, playing with them, and now they’re turning around to curse you guys. But there are very few people like that, so you don’t need to worry about it.”

Wen Le shrugged, “I’m not worried. And I almost expected it. They would know sooner or later. Give them time to digest it, and if they can’t digest it, there’s nothing I can do.”

Cheng Hui patted Wen Le’s shoulder, “Your attitude is pretty good.”

Wen Le smiled and said, “Just put yourself in my shoes. I’ve just become rich, and I have such a boyfriend. What else do I have to worry about?”

Cheng Hui sighed, kicked Wen Le, and said, “Get out of here.”

Wen Le laughed and ran away.

After the post exposing the two being together fermented for a while, some people began to think it over. Perhaps after accepting the idea of the two being together, they looked back at the photos of the two reconciling and shaking hands, and realised something was off.

Why did the two shake hands and make peace on the school confession wall? And why did they interlock their fingers when shaking hands? Wasn’t a simple handshake enough?

Following this thread of clues, finally something seemed off.

Although the news of Zhou Kao and Wen Le being together was only exposed today, it’s unclear when they actually got together. Generally, the exposure today definitely didn’t mean they got together today.

So, their relationship must have started earlier.

Following the timeline of posts on the BBS, the previous hot post was about them shaking hands and making peace. Assuming they were already together at that time, a question arose: why was the reconciliation post made on the confession wall, why were their fingers interlocked, why were they smiling so brightly?

Although it’s still unclear why they fought in the first place, the interlocked fingers and the confession wall post didn’t seem to make sense. The more one thought about it, the more logical it seemed that their deduction was correct.

This wasn’t just a reconciliation; it was clearly a public announcement of their love!

They had already announced their relationship so early! Poor gossipers were still in the dark, not realising they had been discreetly showing affection. Now, realising it, they were being fed a mouthful of dog food.

So, some people began to scrutinise the handshake reconciliation on the confession wall and gave reasonable guesses about the couple’s behaviour at the time.

Based on the reasonable analysis above, I believe the two were already together at the time. But why they fought remains a mystery.

    1l: Damn, that makes sense.

2l: This dog food is a bit too much…

3l: This is the pinnacle of public display of affection. You show it, and others don’t even realise it. But when they finally do, they’re almost choked to death by it. Burp~

4l: So, actually, when they fought at first, it was just a lover’s quarrel, right? Then they… it’s domestic violence, isn’t it? I have to say, it’s fortunate they’re together now. Otherwise, who could stand their fights? With Wen Le throwing fists like that, can any guy handle it? Too fierce…

5l: Oh my gosh! That makes so much sense. I just went to look at the photo of them shaking hands and making peace. They were both smiling exceptionally brightly, and they both had a ring on their hands. Some people used to mock them for wearing rings to a martial arts gym, saying it wasn’t professional, but now I think they might have done it intentionally. But these two rings don’t look the same, not like couple rings. Could there be some other meaning behind them?

6l: Oh my gosh! After what the person above said, I just realised they were really wearing rings at the time, and they were both on the hand where their fingers were interlocked. Oh my gosh, there must be a story behind this.

7l: Shocking! Calling all experts to investigate!

    8l: Seconded!

The moment this post came out, it instantly became a top-hot post, attracting countless onlookers.

But no one in the thread had managed to figure out the origin of those two rings. Until a new post emerged.

#Here’s the scoop on the Zhou Kao and Wen Le rings you’ve been asking for, come check it out.

The rings are the pride and joy of the chief designer of a small Swedish jewelry brand, priced at $99,999.

That’s right, the ring on Zhou Kao’s hand and the one on Wen Le’s hand can be put together to form a whole, meaning they are a pair of couple rings.

When the two rings are put together, they look like this. [Image]

And here’s how they look when worn separately by models. [Image] Are they identical?

    The most important thing is:

The reason why this ring is so expensive is that all the diamonds on Wen Le’s ring are real. The most expensive part of this ring is the women’s ring, while the men’s ring is just a regular platinum ring.

The unique thing about this ring is that out of the $99,999, probably the hundreds of thousands of RMB was just spent on the women’s ring, while the men’s ring probably only cost a five-figure sum for design and craftsmanship.

[The most expensive part is for you]

So the most romantic aspect of this ring is its meaning: you are where my soul and radiance reside. Isn’t that super romantic?

So when the gossipers clicked on this post, all they could see were a bunch of groundhogs squealing below.

    Similar to these:

    Ahhhhhh! I’m dead!

Ahhhhhh! Zhou Kao is too amazing!

Ahhhhhh! The world owes me a Zhou Kao!

    I’ll be damned to death!

A Love Letter to Wei Lai Chapter 11

Have You Considered Being My Girlfriend in Beijing As Well?

Wei Lai had just finished showering, and before she could blow dry her hair, Zhou Sujin’s call came in. His crisp, clear voice came through from the other end of the call, “I’m downstairs. Can you come down for a bit?”

As they parted ways in front of the siheyuan, she had thought it would be difficult to see him again.

“Sure, but President Zhou, you’ll have to wait a few minutes.”

    “No rush.”

    He then hung up.

Wei Lai draped a towel over her shoulders and began blow-drying her hair in front of the mirror.

He couldn’t possibly be calling her about work; the only thing they could discuss was her identity as his “girlfriend”, which might be causing him some trouble.

With her hair dried but no time for makeup, she grabbed her room key and headed downstairs.

That Bentayga EWB was parked in front of the hotel’s main entrance, and she got in as Uncle Yan got off.

“There were only the two of them in the car. She took a deep breath to compose herself before asking, “President Zhou, what’s the matter?”

Zhou Sujin didn’t like beating around the bush. “You’re just my girlfriend in Jiang City. Have you considered being one in Beijing as well?”

It was too sudden, and Wei Lai didn’t know how to respond momentarily.

Zhou Sujin: “You don’t have to date me. Just occasionally accompany me home to deal with my family.” It would spare him the trouble of blind dates. He continued, “I won’t let you help for nothing. You can freely use the title of my girlfriend to your advantage, leverage connections and resources, whatever you like.”

He didn’t need an immediate answer, giving her a night to consider.

However, there were additional conditions to pretending to be his girlfriend. Once she agreed, she couldn’t back out halfway, and during their “relationship,” she couldn’t go on any other blind dates. Any excuses for unavoidable blind dates were not acceptable.

Wei Lai felt a bit overwhelmed, but after composing herself, she looked at him and said, “If I agree to pretend to be your girlfriend, of course, I can refrain from going on blind dates. My parents never pressure me to marry.”

Her concern was, “What about you? What if your family doesn’t care at all about me being your girlfriend and continues to pressure you into blind dates; what then?”

Zhou Sujin: “As long as you’re my girlfriend for even a day, blind dates would be of no concern to me.”

It was strange; she had only known him for a few weeks, and she didn’t know him that well, yet she believed every promise he made.

Perhaps it was because she viewed him through rose-colored glasses.

She still had many more questions. “How long do you plan to ‘date’?”

Just at this moment, Zhou Sujin’s phone buzzed. His aunt had shared the WeChat contact of his blind date, which he ignored. Turning back to her, he said, “At least two years.”

    That long?

Wei Lai negotiated with him, “Can’t it be just one year? Or we could pretend for a year first, then decide whether to renew the contract based on the actual situation?”

Zhou Sujin didn’t allow for negotiations. “I don’t have time to change girlfriends often.”

Two years, no room for negotiation. He disliked people negotiating with him the most.

Seeing her hesitation, he gave her time. “Take your time to think about it.” Then he asked, “Do you have plans tomorrow?”

Wei Lai nodded. “En, dinner at 8.”

Zhou Sujin: “You can use the car.”

Wei Lai declined without hesitation. “Thank you, President Zhou, but it’s fine. I’ll take a taxi; it’s more convenient.”

Zhou Sujin looked at her, seeing through her thoughts. “Whether you agree to my proposal or not doesn’t affect me lending you the car. They’re two separate matters.” He wasn’t so unchivalrous. “Even if you refuse me on the spot now, if you invite me to dinner another day, I’ll still go.”

With that, he ended the conversation. “Go upstairs and rest.”

Wei Lai wanted to say something but hesitated.

She hadn’t noticed it when she got into the car, but now she saw that the bag was still in the car.

She was puzzled. “You asked me to pretend to be your girlfriend, but whose bracelets are these…”

It took Zhou Sujin a moment to understand what she meant. Rarely, he explained, “It’s a friend’s gift for his sister.”

Wei Lai felt apologetic. It turned out she had misunderstood; it wasn’t a gift he bought for someone he liked.

Back in her room, she was no longer sleepy.

Having pulled an all-nighter to finish the sales report last night, Wei Lai felt like she could barely keep her eyes open while showering just a while ago. Yet, she was now wide awake, as if she had slept for a dozen hours.

Regarding Zhou Sujin’s proposed contract, she found it difficult to decide at the moment.

Who dared to guarantee that they could spend two years with a man like him, who not only had business acumen but was also charismatic, without developing feelings? Once the two-year contract ended, he would either marry someone suitable or continue finding a contract girlfriend to appease his family.

Two years were a bit long. She was worried that she might develop feelings for him over time. If she harbored feelings she shouldn’t have, she would be the one suffering when they parted ways someday.

However, the conditions he offered were incredibly tempting, especially for someone as pragmatic and worldly as her.

Until noon the next day, Zhou Sujin hadn’t received a response from Wei Lai.

    Silence implied rejection.

Contracts like these were all about mutual agreement; there was no need to force someone into it.

He found the WeChat contact his aunt shared with him last night and added them as a friend.

In just a few minutes, the request was accepted.

Zhou Sujin sent the address of the restaurant his aunt had booked and said, “Anytime you’d like.”

Blind Date: “I don’t feel like having Italian cuisine tonight.” Seeking his opinion, she asked, “How about going somewhere more lively? How about hotpot?

Zhou Sujin: “I’m fine with that.

Blind Date: “Let’s go eat hotpot then. I’ll make a reservation.

Shortly after, she sent the confirmation of the reservation to him.

Zhou Sujin glanced at the address of the hotpot restaurant; it was near the Kunchen office, only a five-minute drive away.

His aunt was very distrustful of him. Fearing that he might back out of the blind date at the last minute, she called him once at noon and again in the afternoon.

“Try to arrive a few minutes early; don’t let the girl wait.”

“Regardless of the outcome, be respectful.”

“Looks like Auntie is getting old, starting to nag.”

Just at this moment, there were two knocks on his office door. Before he could even say “Come in,” the door opened and Lu An walked in, holding a file folder.

Lu An had been on a business trip abroad recently and had just landed in Beijing two hours ago. Instead of going home from the airport, he came straight to the Kunchen office to discuss a few remaining issues with Zhou Sujin regarding a project.

    “Auntie, someone’s here.”

“Alright.” Ning Rujiang said “alright” but didn’t intend to hang up just yet. “Hey, wait, Sujin, why did I receive a message on my phone saying you canceled the reservation?”

“Not in the mood for Western food, so we’re having hotpot.” Zhou Sujin rarely revealed his inner thoughts. “Auntie, I’m not a child anymore. If I added their contact information, I wouldn’t cancel on them at the last minute.”

“Of course, I know you wouldn’t do something like that.”

He should’ve said so earlier, causing her to be needlessly worried.

Seeing the cancellation message, blood rushed to her head, and she almost couldn’t resist swearing.

Upon hearing that her nephew was going to eat hotpot, Ning Rujiang had a gut feeling that this blind date might be successful.

Zhou Sujin bid goodbye to his aunt and hung up.

Lu An was very curious. Who could make Zhou Sujin accompany them to eat hotpot?

“What kind of social obligation requires you to go eat hotpot?”

“Blind date.” Zhou Sujin locked his screen and tossed his phone aside before grabbing his tablet to continue reading.

Lu An stared at him as if he were observing a rare species. “Are you interested in your blind date?”

Without even looking up, Zhou Sujin replied flatly, “I didn’t even know who she was before we got in touch. Where would the interest come from?”

    That didn’t make sense.

Normally, Zhou Sujin avoided hotpot like it was his enemy, never touching it. How could he agree to go eat hotpot on a blind date? If he didn’t know who she was before, he knew after getting in touch.

The focal point was that he was willing to accompany someone to eat something he didn’t like after finding out who she was.

Lu An: “Are you… sure you’re not just trying to cater to her preferences?”

Zhou Sujin couldn’t be bothered to respond to him.

Despite being afraid of him, Lu An was also the most gossipy about his affairs. “Didn’t you admit to having a girlfriend in Jiang City? Does she know you’re going on a blind date?”

Zhou Sujin was currently reviewing work reports from various teams on his tablet, looked up, and scoffed, “Even going abroad hasn’t stopped you from being nosy.”

    Lu An: “…”

How did this end up being his fault?

He thought to himself, If you had a better reputation and were a good person, Zhao Yihan wouldn’t have asked me so much about you.

Due to his business trip, he missed the dinner with He Wancheng and the rare occasion of witnessing Zhou Sujin going public with his girlfriend. He was dying of curiosity. What kind of extraordinary charm did this Wei Lai possess to make Zhou Sujin be a good person for once?

As for why he was abroad but knew about the events that happened in Jiang City so clearly, Lu An explained, “My university classmate, Zhao Yihan, is Wei Lai’s stepsister. She asked me for your number that night, saying Wei Lai wanted to give you a watch but didn’t have your contact information. I was confused and had to clarify the situation. I wouldn’t just give out your personal number without knowing what was going on, would I?”

“By the way, remember how I was eyeing a villa in Jiang City before? The previous owner was Wei Lai, but I was too late; someone else bought it.”

Lu An took out all the project documents from the file folder and started flipping through them. “Later, I heard that the villa was given to her as compensation from her ex after they broke up. She doesn’t seem to be short of money; her dad has a law firm, and her mom runs a supermarket. Selling it off in such a hurry must be due to a ….” heartbreak.

Zhou Sujin looked up, silently looking at him.

Immediately, Lu An shut his mouth. This kind of expression from Zhou Sujin often meant his patience had run out.

Lu An stayed until 4:50 p.m. before taking his leave.

He couldn’t stay any longer even if he wished to since Zhou Sujin had to go meet his blind date.

Meanwhile, in the hotel, Wei Lai had just woken up.

She hadn’t slept at all last night due to thinking about the contract. Staying up all night was exhausting, and even though she slept the whole day today, she still hadn’t fully recovered her energy.

She had plans to meet Qi Linsheng tonight. After getting up, she took a shower, applied a face mask, and spent a long time doing her makeup to conceal her dark circles.

After applying lipstick, she picked up her phone and called Zhao Yihan to tell her about the decision she had thought about all night with her so-called sister.

She could hide it from her parents, but the one person she didn’t want to keep it from was Zhao Yihan.

After listening to all the details of the contract, Zhao Yihan stopped what she was doing and remained silent for half a minute.

“As long as you don’t regret it.”

    There was a brief pause.

“Worst case scenario, if you get dumped, I’ll come to Beijing and bring you back.”

Wei Lai laughed, feeling a pang in her heart. She had thought Zhao Yihan would scold her for being crazy and irrational.

She reassured Zhao Yihan, “It’s not like I’m really dating him. Even if it comes to the ‘breakup’ day, it won’t be as painful as last time. Besides, I’m not going to Beijing; I’m staying in Jiang City.”

The feelings of sadness were often beyond one’s control. Zhao Yihan: “Two years isn’t two days. As people spend more and more time with each other, it’s hard to distinguish between what’s genuine or acting.”

After a pause, she continued, “Anyway, since you’ve already made up your mind, enjoy yourself while you can.”

    Wei Lai: “….”

“I heard from my mom that you’re working at the supermarket now?” Zhao Yihan changed the subject.

“En. If you have time, come visit me.” It wasn’t just polite words. Wei Lai genuinely hoped Zhao Yihan would come over to visit someday.

They chatted about this and that for a few more minutes before hanging up.

She pulled open the curtains in the room, and dusk had already fallen. It was almost 7 p.m. Zhou Sujin should be done with work by now.

President Zhou, I’ve decided to accept your contract.

Shortly after, Zhou Sujin called. “Why didn’t you say so earlier? I just finished my blind date.”

Through the phone, Wei Lai could hear the server saying, “Please take care, come again.” It felt like something pricked her heart.

“You didn’t tell me you had a blind date today.”

“En.” Zhou Sujin got into the car and absentmindedly rolled down the window. “Whether I told you or not didn’t matter. If I did, it might seem like I was trying to provoke a reaction.”

Wei Lai was silent for a moment. “Is it too late now?”

Zhou Sujin: “Not too late. If you had replied to me earlier, I wouldn’t have had to go on this date.” It was just an extra meal to deal with; it didn’t matter.

He added, “Are you sure about being with me for two years?”

    Wei Lai: “I’m sure.”
