  • You’re So Arrogant Chapter 44

The next day, Ye An got up early again to accompany Xie Shuo to the company.

After arriving at the company, Xie Shuo entered his office as Ye An sat on the lounge sofa playing games on her phone.

Although she had spent the majority of her time at home for the past six months, she still had the opportunity to tease Xie Shuo every now and then. Now that Xie Shuo was busy with work affairs, she had no choice but to entertain herself in the cold and boring lounge.

After watching a movie and playing two different games, she got up to take a walk, constantly glancing back at the door with expectant eyes.

Unfortunately, no one showed up. Experiencing a day or two of this was fine, but she would get bored of this sooner or later.

At twelve o’clock, Xie Shuo had someone inform her, and they went out for lunch.

Ye An was not as excited as she was yesterday. She finished eating before Xie Shuo and put down her chopsticks. She shook out fingers and touched the lily petals with a worried expression.

Xie Shuo lifted his gaze and glanced at her.

Ye An propped up her chin and looked at him. The man ate slowly with graceful movements. The hands that held the chopsticks were clear and slender.

“Are you going to come to the company every day from now on?”

Xie Shuo withdrew his gaze when she looked over. He lowered his eyes and said lightly, “I’ll be busier over the next two months.”

Ye An blinked and took the initiative to offer politely. “Then I can read some of the documents to you in the afternoon. I’m stuck alone in the lounge all day; it’s really boring.”

Speaking of the matter, Ye An was somewhat suspicious. He had been busy for the past two days, yet he didn’t ask her to read any documents to him so far. How was he reading the documents? Was he listening to the AI recordings? Or was Zhong Fu reading them?

A strange look flashed through Xie Shuo’s eyes, but he didn’t agree or deny it.

Ye An took his silence as agreement and put a thoughtfully put piece of vegetable in his bowl.

However, when they returned to the company, Xie Shuo temporarily did not need her help and prevented her from entering his office.

        “……”

Ye An was angered after being abandoned once again in the lounge: You don’t need me, fine! Don’t have me read to you in the future then! Next time, I won’t read even if you beg me to!

As she was beating up a pillow on the sofa to vent her anger, someone suddenly knocked on the door.

Ye An thought it was him regretting his decision, so she sat down properly and said with a cold attitude, “Enter.”

Xiao Yu and a female assistant unexpectedly entered and said that Xie Shuo ordered them to accompany her to go shopping.

Ye An sneered inwardly: Did you think I would calm down if someone went shopping with me? Am I such a materialistic woman?

        ……

An hour later, Ye An arrived at a well-known mall nearby. She also called Shi Shuangshuang to provide some company.

Shi Shuangshuang, who had not hung out with her in over half a year, rushed over at first notice.

“What’s the occasion for you to finally come outside today?” Shi Shuangshuang asked half-jokingly as soon as they met.

Ye An’s annoyance completely disappated after seeing the dazzling array of goods in the mall. What’s wrong with buying one’s worries away? It’s much more fun than accompanying a certain moody Eldest Young Master!

She stepped inside in with her high heels and skirt rippling as she walked, “I just happened to have some free time today.”

Shi Shuangshuang glanced at the luxury brand store in front of them and at then the bodyguard and female assistant who were following Ye An. Shi Shuangshuang thought, It’s just shopping, so there’s no need for such a powerful aura.

Shi Shuangshuang assumed it was probably her wealthy husband’s wrongdoing and couldn’t help but think about his identity again. She asked Ye An in a low voice, “Where’s your husband? Why aren’t you with him today?”

“He’s been busy with the company for the past two days, so I don’t need to be with him.” There was a hint of resentment in Ye An’s tone that she didn’t even notice.

Shi Shuangshuang blurted out, “Isn’t he blind? How is he able to…” Before finishing her sentence, she realized that it was inappropriate and stopped speaking.

Ye An didn’t mind and replied calmly, “He has an AI and a personal assistant, so going to work isn’t a problem.”

Seeing her unbothered expression, Shi Shuangshuang became less cautious and asked again, “I remember you said that you went with him to go receive treatment a while ago. How did it go? Will he recover soon?”

After hearing her mention this, Ye An’s eyes dimmed. She said disappointedly, “We’re not sure yet; he’s still undergoing treatment.”

The topic was heavy, so Shi Shuangshuang diverted the conversation from such a gloomy one. “Hey, I have some good news for you. I’m going to be transferring to the Brilliant Dreams Film and Television Department soon.”

    Ye An smiled. “Really? Congratualations.”

Shi Shuangshuang smiled and took her arm. “I have to thank you and Boss Xiang for this promotion. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had this chance… You didn’t know this, but the Boss has been picking up projects like crazy for half a year in your absence. We’ve been worked half to death.”

The two entered a jewelry store as they talked. The glass booth was full of dazzling lights.

Ye An looked around and set her gaze on an elegantly designed silver bracelet. She asked the store attendant to take it out and take a closer look.

A thread of silver lay gently on the dark blue velvet cloth. It was adorned with delicate red gemstones, making the assembly shine.

“This bracelet is so pretty!” Shi Shuangshuang walked closer and said.

Just as Ye An was about to pick it up and try it on, an arrogant female voice suddenly sounded from beside her.

“I want this bracelet; pack it up for me.”

Ye An turned around when she heard the voice and saw a young woman in a tan coat standing by the counter. The arrogant woman looked familiar.

However, Ye An couldn’t remember where she had seen this woman.

“We saw this bracelet first. How can you have it by simply wanting it?” Shi Shuangshuang couldn’t hold back her tongue from asking.

The young woman looked at Ye An. She raised her eyebrow, sneered, and said with blatant hostility, “The object is on display. Whoever pays first gets it.”

She spoke as she handed a card to the store attendant.

Seeing the arrogant look on her face, Ye An finally remembered her as the little celebrity that bumped into her and Zhuang Yinan when she went to record the theme song for Lu Chuan.

However, Ye An had long forgotten her name, as the woman wasn’t important in her life.

Ye An didn’t remember Li Mo, but Li Mo remembered her. The last time they had run into each other, Li Mo had provoked Zhuang Yinian so severely that she lost her opportunity to work with “YN,” her endorsements, and her role.

Afterward, Li Mo saw the gossip about Ye An on Weibo, where Li Mo learned of her name and her profession of being a voice actor.

She couldn’t afford to offend Zhuang Yinian, but she could always pick on a small voice actor, right?

Ye An didn’t expect for a day in which she would meet this woman. This time, the other party was even more bizarre than before. She didn’t apologize for the last time she bumped into Ye An, yet she still tried to take her revenge today.

Li Mo reached for the bracelet, but Ye An closed the container directly and glanced at her coldly. She held a card in her other hand and gave it to the store attendant beside her. “Please wrap it up for me.”

Li Mo was not one to concede. “I asked for it first!”

The store attendant looked at the two people arguing and inwardly complained. The customers who were able to spend their money here were usually rich or influential, so they weren’t to be offended.

“Would you two want to look at something else?” The store attendant tried to pacify them.

However, the two stood firm, both unwilling to give in.

During the stalemate, the store manager suddenly came over, followed by Xiao Yu, who had apparently gone looking for him.

“Wrap the bracelet up for this lady.” The manager ordered the store attendant and gave Ye An a smile.

Li Mo’s eyes widened in disbelief. She saw on the internet that Ye An was just a no-name dubbing actress that allegedly married a blind man from a wealthy family. Why was the store manager favoring her?

“My apologies, Miss, this madam saw the bracelet first. Would you like to look at anything else? Our store has just launched a few new products…”

The manager had others wrap up the bracelet and hand it over to Ye An as he apologized to Li Mo.

Ye An took the bracelet and walked out of the store in content, ignoring the other woman. She seemed to have a queen’s aura with her straight back, slender figure, and heels clicking against the ground.

Shi Shuangshuang followed her out and gave a thumbs up, as if she had just watched a face-slapping scene. “You looked so cool just now!”

Ye An held the wrapped-up bracelet and handed it to Shi Shuangshuang. “I saw that you liked it, so I want to give it to you.”

To be honest, Ye An didn’t like the bracelet that much. She had a set of custom-made ruby jewelry at home, which contained a bracelet. She just couldn’t stand Li Mo’s arrogant expression, so she refused to concede.

Shi Shuangshuang: …Sis, isn’t this too generous?

She had previously seen the price of the bracelet, and the number was not small.

“Just treat it as a present to congrulate you on your promotion.” Ye An added with a smile.

Shi Shuangshuang took it, thanked her, and held her arm as she showered Ye An with compliments.

Ye An toured the mall all afternoon, swiping the card to buy whatever she liked.

Because she normally behaved virtuously and economically, the Xie family treated her well in material aspects. Her clothes and jewelry were sent directly to her; however, she was unrestrained in spending money today.

When she finally walked out of the mall and looked at the bags that Xiao Yu was carrying, she thought of the amount that she swiped on the card. Ye An felt somewhat guilty: if Xie Shuo knew about it, would he think she was being frivolous?

When she returned to the company, Xie Shuo had not finished work.

Ye An was tired from all of the shopping and didn’t have the energy to bother him, so she sat on the sofa in the lounge and rubbed her calves.

At around five-thirty, Xie Shuo finally finished his work and pinched his brows tiredly. He asked Zhong Fu, “Is my wife back?”

Zhong Fu replied, “She’s back and in the lounge.”

Xie Shuo picked up the coat from his chair and got up to leave.

Zhong Fu followed him to the door and suddenly called out, “Presdient Xie.”

Xie Shuo looked at Zhong Fu and saw him hesitate to speak. The former looked somewhat annoyed and said, “If you have something to say, speak.”

Zhong Fu said hesitantly, “When Madam was outside today, something happened.”

Xie Shuo paused. “What’s the matter?”

Zhong Fu gave a rough summary of the conflict between Ye An and Li Mo and briefed him on Li Mo’s identity.

When Xie Shuo heard of it, he frowned and ordered in a low voice, “Check to see if there are any projects or endorsements related to her, and remove her.”

        ——

In the evening, the two returned home after eating out.

Since she had used quite a bit of his money in the afternoon, Ye A had a better attitude towards Xie Shuo. After massaging his head, she picked out his clothes and prepared a hot bath.

The bathroom was dense with water vapor in the cold winter night. She sat along the edge of the tub and put two drops of essential oil into the water. Her wrist was slender and fair.

Xie Shuo watched her movements, and a warm feeling arose in his heart. He raised his hand to gently pull at the tie around his neck.

Ye An got up just in time to see his actions. Under the lamp shadows, his actions appeared sensual as ever.

She couldn’t help but take a few more glances, and her gaze continued to drift towards his neck as she walked out.

Xie Shuo noticed her gaze, and his actions slightly slowed. He had already taken his tie off and was in the middle of undoing the first shirt button when his fingertips paused.

Recalling the “bad hair day” photo he saw yesterday, Xie Shuo couldn’t help but wonder if she was going to take the opportunity to take another secret picture of him.

Fortunately, Ye An didn’t have the hobby of taking secret pictures of others bathing. She gave him another glance and warned, “Don’t soak for too long,” and left the bathroom.

Xie Shuo turned to look at her retreating figure. He waited for her to leave before continuing to unbutton his shirt, his chest showing little by little.

Scenes had inadvertently flashed through his mind these past few days, all of which were her expressions as she looked at him.

    Xie Shuo’s eyes narrowed.

    Did she really like him?

If she liked him, why did she want to divorce him?

    Good News

    “Three million?”

The voice from the other end of the phone seemed a little puzzled, and everyone else looked at Su Shen curiously at what she was going to say.

Su Shen felt rather embarrassed. Xie Yan was probably confused by her. She was clearly someone who didn’t even want to owe others a meal, but now, she wanted to borrow three million all of a sudden. She didn’t know if Xie Yan could sense that something was weird about it.

“Yeah, it’s the complex in Yuxin District. When I went to see it a few days ago, I felt that the condo was quite nice. But, I just happened to be short of three million. If it’s inconvenient for you, I’ll ask someone else.” Su Shen coughed slightly. What she said was so obvious, it was impossible for Xie Yan to not see through it.

As expected, the person on the other end of the phone paused and suddenly said, “Is it convenient or not?”

As his words fell, the people at the table across from her covered their mouths. If it wasn’t for the fact that they couldn’t make a sound, they would probably have screamed.

Seeing that time was running out, Su Shen immediately asked, “Are you willing to lend or not?”

Hearing this, Xie Yan said seriously, “Sure, but my interest is very high.”

She knew that he saw through it when he said that. Fortunately, the task was completed. Just at this moment, Zhou Jun, who was across from her, suddenly said, “Hi Yan ge, we’re recording for a show!”

When he said that, Yang Yun, who was next to him, came over excitedly and shouted, “Xie laoshi, I’m your fan!”

Su Shen’s hand was almost crushed by Yang Yun, which showed just how excited she was, just like how Tong Le was.

“Yan ge, when will you lend me three million!” Wang Cheng shouted from over there.

Actually, everyone could tell that Xie Yan must have seen through it just now, as his last sentence was obviously a joke.

“Xie laoshi surely wants to refuse in his heart!” Yang Yun looked at Wang Cheng jeeringly.

“Okay, y’all. Hi Yan ge, we’re recording for ‘Happy Today’; it was a game just now. You can say hello to our friends in the audience.” Yuan Zheng immediately took control of the scene.

Upon hearing that, the person on the other end of the phone said unhurriedly, “Hello everyone, I’m Xie Yan.”

His voice was deep and mellow. Yang Yun, on the side, grabbed Su Shen’s arm tightly with excitement, “AHHHHH!”

“Okay, okay, there’s nothing else. I’m going to hang up.” Su Shen immediately took her phone and hung up before the other party could respond.

She didn’t know how the production team would edit it later, but it was obvious that Xie Yan was joking around when he promised to lend her money. The public would definitely see it.

“With this, there will definitely be someone asking Xie laoshi to lend them money everyday.” Zhang Qianqian said jokingly.

Seeing this, Su Shen immediately said with all seriousness, “Actually, Xie laoshi is very nice. He would teach us a lot of things when filming.”

“Yeah, he would tell me how to tone and intonate the lines. He’s also usually very down-to-earth.” Wang Cheng added.

Su Shen couldn’t help but take another glance at him. How come she didn’t feel that Xie Yan was down-to-earth…

Everyone echoed a few more words, and then it was Zhang Qianqian’s turn to call. She drew out “I have a fever.”

The one she had to call was a heavily rumored boyfriend recently. The other party was a highly popular xiao xian rou. But what they didn’t expect was that after Zhang Qianqian finished speaking, the other party immediately said, “I’m coming to see you now.”

In an instant, the entire room was flaring with noise. The person on the other end of the phone naturally found out that they were recording for a show, but the relationship between the two of them must not be ordinary. Zhang Qianqian’s face blushed with helplessness.

However, this scene definitely could not be broadcasted. There could be ambiguity between the two, but if that were to be broadcasted, it would mean that they were going public with their relationship. Zhang Qianqian certainly did not want to go public with their relationship. The production team naturally wouldn’t do such a thing either. After all, this was a long term collaboration. Thus, the two of them soon recorded another take, but it was much more normal this time.

They didn’t expect such big news to be leaked in the end. Everyone was so surprised that the calls after seemed average.

The result of this round was the red team. This was the script of the production team, where each team had to win once, so that they could have a sense of tension by being evenly matched.

The punishment for Su Shen’s team was to let the other team’s members draw turtles on their faces, with lipstick even. In the end, they had to wash their faces before reapplying makeup.

Each team got a clue, and they respectively went to town to look for the peerless Master. During this time, the route and the meeting of the two teams were all scripted. Wang Cheng said he was hungry and insisted on taking them to eat a bowl of wontons on the roadside before leaving.

The scripted ending was that the red team found the Master, who was actually a kung fu master. Overall, this episode was already full of funny bits and breaking points. Although the part of Zhang Qianqian couldn’t be broadcasted, the rerecording was still full of ambiguity between the two, which was enough as a gimmick.

After getting the clue from the first round, the second round’s competition started. But this time, everyone sat along a long table indoors.

Director: “In front of you, there are ten cards. Each of you has to choose one. Later, you will take out your respective phone and let someone from the other team select a contact to complete the task on the card. The team that completes the most within the specified time will win this round.”

    “Ah?”

Everyone shouted. Nobody expected for the production team to play this hard. Su Shen arched an eyebrow, as this was completely outside her expectations.

These kinds of shows usually have a script, but mostly for when guests split apart and explore on their own, as there would be no funny bits otherwise. As for games and the like, there’s usually no notice, so that they could catch guests off guard.

“Look guys, Zhou Jun’s face turned pale from fright. He must have many hidden secrets on his phone.” Yuan Zheng pointed at Zhou Jun who was across from him.

At that, everyone else burst into laughter, with only Zhou Jun looking toward Deng Chun, “What do I have to be afraid of? I’m single. But, have you guys ever thought about Deng laoshi’s feelings? He’s married!”

Who knew what random task would be on the card? Deng Chun helplessly rubbed his temple with a smile, while Yuan Zheng, who was beside him, jokingly said, “It’s over, Deng laoshi will have to kneel on the keyboard when he returns home.”

Everyone laughed again. Just at this moment, the Director asked everyone to hand over their phones. Although everyone was a little hesitant, they were all a part of the same industry. Even if there was any secret, no one would say it out loud. After all, there was no bad blood.

After exchanging phones, Yuan Zheng chose an actress that Zhou Jun had worked with from his contacts. Actually, Su Shen saw that Zhou Jun happened to have a “Baby” in his contacts, which might be an undisclosed girlfriend. However, although Yuan Zheng and he loved to make fun of each other, they would not expose something like this at such a time.

Yang Yun chose the phone number of her well-known director Dad for Ye Meng. When Su Shen’s phone fell into Zhang Qianqian’s hand, Zhou Jun, who was next to her, saw something and shouted incessantly.

“Stop, stop, stop, I see Jiang Yin’s name! Choose him!” Zhou Jun smiled mischievously, obviously aware of the gossip between Jiang Yin and her.

Su Shen breathed a sigh of relief. Jiang Yin was familiar with the tactics used by variety shows and would definitely be able to see through it. She wasn’t worried.

“Wait!” Zhang Qianqian suddenly shouted, “Xie Yan! I’ll choose him!”

Compared with Jiang Yin, Xie Yan was much more of a trending topic. Anyone who paid attention to the news would know that Xie Yan’s first on-screen kiss was given to her. For the production team, this was definitely a gimmick.

“Ah?” Wang Cheng was also surprised when he heard that and seemed to be worried for Su Shen. After all, Xie Yan was taciturn and of few words. God knows if he could see through that this was part of a show?

“Yes, yes, yes, Xie Yan then.” The people on the red team agreed. Xie Yan does not participate in variety shows. If they could dial through, would it count as his debut?

Seeing this, Su Shen helplessly laid her head on the table. She didn’t expect that Xie Yan would be chosen.

The first person to draw out a card was Zhao Feng. He drew out “Do you want to go on a vacation together next month?”

The one he needed to call was also a rumored girlfriend, who was picked by Yang Yun. In the end, they awkwardly chatted for a while, and the time quickly passed. He failed his task. Clearly, he was not close with his rumored girlfriend.

The second one to go was Wang Cheng. He drew out “Would you like to have dinner tonight?”

The person he needed to call was Yang Zhi, but he and Yang Zhi seemed to be quite close. The other party happily agreed. When she learned that he was recording for a show, she greeted the audience of the show. Fortunately, Wang Cheng’s task was completed.

After several rounds, Su Shen became more and more nervous. She didn’t know what she would draw.

When it was finally her turn, facing the panning camera, Su Shen pretended to be calm and drew out a card on the table with the words “Can you lend me three million?”

Three million was neither much nor less for an artist. Even a C-list actor can earn tens of millions a year. For Xie Yan, it’s a drop in the bucket. However, Su Shen felt it was so abrupt to ask someone to lend her that much money.

“Quick, quick!” Zhou Jun immediately dialed the phone for her.

The phone beeped. Su Shen became more and more nervous. Until a few more rings, the phone finally connected and a hoarse male voice suddenly sounded, “Hello?”

Everyone stared at Su Shen, who pretended to be calm and said to the phone, “Are you practicing Muay Thai again?”

“Yeah.” Xie Yan, on the other end, couldn’t help wiping his sweat with a towel, and seemed curious that Su Shen would take the initiative to call him, while letting the instructor go for today.

“Umm… can I ask you to help me with something?” Su Shen was so nervous that her palms were sweating, but she appeared calm.

Everyone else was staring at the phone tightly. Wang Cheng was even more nervous. He didn’t even have Xie Yan’s number. How come Su Shen has it?

    “Sure.”

The voice from the other end of the phone had no hesitation whatsoever. Everyone else covered their mouths and looked at Su Shen suspiciously. He agreed without even listening to what the request was. There seemed to be something going on here.

Being stared at by them was too embarrassing and Su Shen took a deep breath and said, “The thing is, I’m planning to move houses. My current condo’s location didn’t seem to be too great, but houses in the CBD* area is too expensive. I’m still short of a bit of money, can you lend me three million first?”

  • I Am A Matchmaker On Taobao Chapter 66

While Han Xingyan, who had been waiting for a long time in the airport parking lot, was unable to reach Shen Chuchu when he called her and assumed she had not gotten off the plane. After half an hour of waiting, he called Secretary Wang, “Go and check whether Miss Shen’s flight is late or not.”

After a minute, Secretary Wang returned the call, “Boss, Miss Shen’s flight was not late. It arrived on time an hour earlier.”

Han Xingyan frowned and hung up the phone. Has her phone run out of battery? At this thought, Han Xingyan drove back to Liyuan Apartment with a heavy heart. Han Xingyan entered the apartment, looked at the closed door opposite, paused for a moment, and then walked over. He made an attempt to ring the doorbell.

He rang the bell for a while but nobody answered. He silently stared at the room for a while then opened his own door. As soon as he entered, his cousin called.

“Cousin, you and Qin Yingran are on the hot search. Who are you, you are an expert on being on hot search. The PR department is already working overtime to remove hot searches. Have you explained it to Chuchu?” Zhang Teng asked with a swoosh.

Han Xingyan frowned as he listened to his cousin’s words. He hung up the phone afterwards. He sat on the sofa for five minutes then stood up and walked across. After ringing the doorbell for five minutes, the door finally opened.

Shen Chuchu sleepily looked at the handsome man in front of her.

Han Xingyan’s despair and anxiousness vanished instantly when he saw Shen Chuchu’s appearance. So she was asleep and did not deliberately keep him outside.

Shen Chuchu stood there silently staring at Han Xingyan. Han Xingyan remained silent at first, but when he noticed Shen Chuchu’s head was down, he softly asked, “Can I come in?”

Shen Chuchu hesitated then moved sideways.

The moment the door was closed, Shen Chuchu felt as if she was being pulled around in a circle by a force and her entire body was pushed onto the door without a word. A warm touch landed on her lips before she could react.

This familiar yet strange touch ignited her body’s restless cells like a match.

She expected him to cease kissing her like he did the last time, but she did not expect her lips to be bitten while she was startled. She could not help but open her mouth to exclaim. After that, he attacked.

An electric current stronger than last time hit her. If it was 100v last time then today was 1000v or even 10000v*. Her eyes were wide open, her eyesight was distorted, and her mind was blank. Even her legs were growing weak and she had to hold on to his waist in order to barely stand still.

    *TL-note: v for voltage.

Her appearance made the man in front of her gradually soften.

Their lips parted and they hugged each other to calm their racing hearts.

“Do you know how worried I was, don’t be like this in the future. Even if you are angry, you should still answer my calls. Do you understand?” Han Xingyan stroked Shen Chuchu’s hair and whispered in her ear.

Shen Chuchu had the impression that Han Xingyan was drugging her. Her left ear felt warm to the touch, and her heart was aching.

“You went on gossip news again ~” Shen Chuchu did not expect to be able to talk in such a coy voice one day when she spoke these words. It simply shattered her sense of self.

“Huh? Are you jealous?” Han Xingyan expressed his delight at having such knowledge. As for Shen Chuchu’s voice, he did not find it coy but rather sweet.

Shen Chuchu’s cheeks reddened immediately again when the redness had just subsided, and she mumbled in denial, “Who, who is jealous. I’m not anybody to you. Why do I have to listen to you? Why would I be jealous.”

When Han Xingyan heard this, his face was a little dull and he asked in a slightly threatening tone, “You are nobody?”

Shen Chuchu wanted to back away but was up against the door and sternly replied, “Of course.”

After she finished, Shen Chuchu suddenly felt offended. How can someone be such a bad boyfriend, going on a hot search with other women when she was not at home and not even explaining it to her? He was well aware that, as a celebrity, she would pay attention from time to time.

Shen Chuchu’s face progressively changed, and Han Xingyan’s heart clenched, so he said, “I thought we were at least in a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship, is it just my wishful thinking?”

“If you are my boyfriend then why didn’t you explain it?” Shen Chuchu spoke out from her heart as she looked at Han Xingyan.

Han Xingyan listened intently to Shen Chuchu’s question, pursed his lips, pondered for a moment, and then responded, “Sorry I will pay more attention next time. I’ve never had this happen before so I was careless. Also…”

After a pause, he looked at Shen Chuchu’s curious gaze and continued, “Also, I’ve never needed to explain it to anyone before. So a lot of times, it doesn’t take a great deal of effort to deal with it.”

Afterwards, Han Xingyan picked up the phone and rang the PR department, “You must alert me at first instance if this sort of thing happens again. Make sure to clean up well this time.”

He hung up the phone and looked at Shen Chuchu’s expression, “Not angry anymore?”

Shen Chuchu’s face reddened and did not dare to look at Han Xingyan.

Han Xingyan stroked her hair and asked, “So Chuchu, are you admitting our relationship then?”

Upon hearing this, Shen Chuchu seriously glanced at Han Xingyan and asked, “Before I answer, I want to ask you something.”

Han Xingyan paused, then replied, “What is it?”

Shen Chuchu lowered her eyes and asked quietly, “That day, um, I mean our first meeting at the hotel. Did something happen? Did we…kiss?”

Han Xingyan had not expected Shen Chuchu to ask such a question. He raised his eyebrows and replied, “So you remembered?”

Shen Chuchu shook her head. So does this mean that Han Xingyan acknowledges it? So her first kiss had been taken since then?

“Oh, so you haven’t remembered. If you want to know what happened…” Han Xingyan did not continue. Shen Chuchu curiously glanced up at him and Han Xingyan lowered his head again.

After a long kiss, Han Xingyan said, “This is probably what happened that day. So Chuchu, are you, my girlfriend, now?”

Shen Chuchu buried her red face into Han Xingyan’s chest and whispered, “Why else would I let you kiss me. Silly.”

Furthermore, Shen Chuchu had figured out that since she could not view her own marriage then she could do whatever she wanted. She liked being with him and maybe he could even be her future husband!

Shen Chuchu went to the bathroom when Secretary Wang called, leaving only Han Xingyan smirking on the living room sofa.

“Boss, the hotpot place called to say that they are extremely busy today and if you are not coming, could you…” Secretary Wang spoke softly and carefully since he knew the boss was likely to be in a bad mood, and he did not dare to speak loudly for fear of resetting the boss’s nerves.

Unexpectedly, he was cut off by his boss before he finished.

“No. Me and Miss Shen will be going there for dinner soon.”

Secretary Wang could sense Han Xingyan’s delight over the phone, and his face lit up, so he smiled and said, “Congratulations Boss, may you have a pleasant evening.”

Han Xingyan simply hung up the phone when Shen Chuchu emerged from the bathroom.

“Chuchu, I got Secretary Wang to make a reservation at that hotpot place. Let’s go and have dinner.”

Shen Chuchu, who was awkward,  immediately lit up and said, “Really, that’s great. I’ll get ready.”

She awoke way too early today. She had not slept at lunch because she needed to get back today, so she slept first when she got home and was famished.

Shen Chuchu’s joyful expression brightened Han Xingyan’s mood as well.

When Shen Chuchu was ready and came out of her bedroom, Han Xingyan’s eyes lit up. He used to think Shen Chuchu was beautiful, but after some make-up, she became much more so. She even wore the bracelet that he gave her.

Shen Chuchu saw Han Xingyan’s gaze on her bracelet and lifted up her wrist then teased, “Bought it casually? All your close friends have one?”

Han Xingyan coughed uncomfortably and his ears reddened, “If I didn’t say it like that, would you have accepted it?”

When leaving, Han Xingyan accidentally touched Shen Chuchu with his elbow and then pretended to be indifferent by looking straight ahead. Shen Chuchu glanced at his deliberate tiny movements and gently laid her hand on Han Xingyan’s arm. The corners of Han Xingyan’s mouth twitched upwards as he sensed his girlfriend’s movements.

After entering the car, there was an even bigger surprise.

Han Xingyan turned around and grabbed a bouquet of roses from the back seat, “I don’t know if you will like these or not. If you don’t like it, I’ll get them changed next time.”

Shen Chuchu felt her heart racing again and again as she gazed at such a beautiful bouquet of big red roses. She thought to herself that she did not know which flowers she preferred, but she knew she must adore red roses. She also thought that few women would object to bright red roses.

After dinner, Shen Chuchu went on Taobao and looked at the photo of Han Xingyan provided by Moonlight Beautiful Girl.* This time her mood was considerably different.

  • Film Empress’s Daily Face Slapping Chapter 30.1

    Phone Got Connected!

    “AHH!!!”

Yuan Zheng and the others all screamed wildly, and Wang Cheng, who was beside him, couldn’t help but ask, “What kind of punishment?”

    Director: “It’s a secret!”

“AHAHA, you guys are doomed. Ye Meng has learned the guzheng before, an expert like her will know whether someone plays it or not!” Zhou Jun, who was across from them, began to mock them unscrupulously.

Hearing this, Su Shen couldn’t help but glance at Ye Meng, who was facing her with a slight smile on her face. No wonder she couldn’t find the person, it seemed like they were chosen by the opposite team already.

Director: “Okay, would the red team please play first.”

As soon as the Director finished speaking, the selected girl immediately sat in front of the guzheng. She had already put on the fake nails and was wearing an ancient attire with long hair hanging past her shoulders. Although her appearance was not as exquisite as artists, her temperament was something that people could not ignore.

When she raised her hand, the clanging sounds of music immediately flowed from her fingertips. All of a sudden, everyone had a surprised expression, and only Zhou Jun’s team began to cheer.

Laymen watched for fun, and experts watched for expertise. From where she was from, this girl’s playing probably wouldn’t even get 60 points.

“F**k!” Seeing this, Yuan Zheng immediately looked at the girl that he pulled out, somewhat vexed, and walked over to ask, “Do you know how to play?”

The girl immediately shook her head apologetically upon hearing his words.

By the time the girl in front of them finished playing, the red team was smug to the point of no return. Although, they had exaggerated their expressions for the sake of the show.

“Su Shen, do you want to come to our team? That side simply lowers your looks!” Zhou Jun said with a smug smile.

Hearing this, Yang Yun immediately exploded. She pulled Wang Cheng forward and said while pointing at his face, “You dare to compete with our team in terms of looks? There’s nothing worse than competing with us in looks!”

“Our team’s looks are unparalleled!” Yuan Zheng immediately added.

Su Shen couldn’t help but laugh. Although they were filming for a show, fun games would still make one physically and mentally happy. Moreover, the guests of this episode seemed to be easy to get along with and not too meddlesome.

“Then may I ask, where’s the person you have chosen?” Zhou Jun had the same smile on his face, waiting for them to admit defeat.

The Director had said that only one of them could play, and that girl had also said that she couldn’t, so it’s definitely their loss this round.

“Wait a sec!” Yuan Zheng suddenly raised his hand, “What a coincidence, we also have an expert. Director, what if one of our team members could play? You never said that the person chosen must play!”

Actually, the Director had said it just before. But for the appeal of the show, this was exactly what they wanted. Since a guest had this talent, then there would be another gimmick for the show. There was no reason not to agree.

Director: “Okay, if one of you guys can play a complete piece of Lofty Mountains and Flowing Water, then this round will be a draw!”

Hearing this, Yang Yun immediately pulled Su Shen forward, “Applause please!”

    Clap clap!”

Yuan Zheng and the others immediately clapped enthusiastically. Wang Cheng also shouted ‘good luck’, while Zhou Jun’s team watched the scene with the attitude of watching a good show.

Su Shen could play Lofty Mountains and Flowing Water, but she didn’t know whether to show her real ability or not under so many eyes. If her parents knew about it, it would be difficult to explain. She could say she learned it on her own, but it couldn’t be too refined. So, she should play it a little poorly.

She slowly put on the fake nails, and her expression gradually became serious. She calmed her heart and started to pluck the strings.

Although they didn’t know how well she played, it was distinctly more unique and pleasing than what the girl before played. Whether it was for the effect of the show or not, some people had surprised expressions on their faces, but no one uttered a sound lest they’d disturb her.

Laymen watched for fun, and experts watched for expertise. Only Ye Meng looked at Su Shen somewhat weirdly. She could hear that Su Shen’s qin skills were beyond the scope of her comprehension. Furthermore, her playing held an indescribable charm than her teacher’s. Even if she studied it from a young age, she was a genius to have such a talent.

The camera was aimed straight at Su Shen. She was wearing a pink hanfu, her skin was fair with exquisite and elegant features. At this moment, her eyes were down and expression indifferent. As her fingertips slid across the guzheng, sounds of it instantly torrented.

As soon as the song ended, there was a burst of applause on scene. Yang Yun rushed forward and looked at the red team, “Convinced or not?!”

The members of the red team admired Su Shen greatly. With respect to this kind of traditional quintessence of national culture, they maintained a rare revering mentality. Su Shen looked quiet and reserved, but was quite talented. However, this was still a competition, and there was no such thing as yielding.

“It’s a draw then! Our Ye Meng can also!” Zhou Jun immediately looked at Ye Meng, “Quick, show them a hand too!”

Facing everyone’s burning gaze, Ye Meng politely smiled, “I can’t play as good as Su Shen did.”

Everyone thought she was joking when they heard that. But no one knew that she was telling the truth. At least in Ye Meng’s view, she had never seen anyone play it better than Su Shen, even her teacher.

“AHAHA! Now, it’s time for you guys to admit defeat!” Yuan Zheng started to jeer at them without hesitation.

At this, the red team just made a “tsk” sound and didn’t say anything else. After all, Su Shen really did have the talent, and there was no fraudery conducted.  They were not unwilling.

“Su Shen, you’re amazing!” Yang Yun came forward and hugged her arm again, laughing happily.

Su Shen was also led to laugh by her. She learned how to play the guzheng from the top guzheng master in the country. In order to send her di* sister to the palace, their Madame* naturally took great pains to nurture her sister. At that time, Su Shen attended to her Grandmother everyday. Perhaps feeling that she was clever and obedient, her Grandmother allowed her to go learn it too. In fact, among the four arts*, she was most adept at calligraphy and painting. But her guzheng was not bad either. Just now, she purposefully played two notes wrong, but no one seemed to have noticed. Moreover, the material of this guzheng was terribly poor, and it would not be able to showcase her normal playing either.

di sister – daughter from the official wife

Madame – the official wife of a man in ancient China

four arts – guzheng, Go, calligraphy, and painting

Director: “Okay, the blue team wins the first round. As for the red team, each of you has to take out a marble from the box with the snake.

    “AHHHHH!”

Everyone on the red team was shocked. At this time, the staff carried a black box onto the stage, making it so that no one could see what was inside. But hearing that there was a snake inside, Zhang Qianqian turned pale, seemingly hadn’t thought that the production team would play this big.

It was just a ruse. How could the production team put the artists in danger? That snake definitely must be non-toxic and its mouth would be bound. Everyone could think of this, but they were still afraid more or less.

“I’ll go first!” Zhou Jun gulped, rolled up his sleeve without demur, and directly reached into the box.

What Su Shen was most afraid of were snakes, even if their mouths were bound. Fortunately, they didn’t lose this round; otherwise, she really wouldn’t have been able to do it.

“Is it this?” Zhou Jun suddenly pulled out his hand, with a black marble in hand.

They didn’t expect him to be so courageous, but the others weren’t so courageous. Several of them dawdled for half a day, but the production team didn’t give in. After all, they had confidence as a top variety show.

After they had all taken out a marble, sweat had broken out on their foreheads from fear. Yang Yun was scared shitless that she said they must not lose the next round.

  • Film Empress’s Daily Face Slapping Chapter 29.2

In the afternoon, she barely had any scenes. Tomorrow, she’s participating in a variety show, but the schedule has already been negotiated with the production crew. But it seemed that even if she stayed, there would only be a few scenes left for her to film.

This show was the top variety show in the country. No matter whether its rating or popularity, no other show could rival it. It was only because of her recent popularity that the show offered an olive branch to her. But at the same time, the episode this time had five regular members and five guests, either idols or those with capability. In terms of clout, she was the lowest in rank.

When she arrived at the quaint town where the show was filmed, Su Shen did not expect to run into Wang Cheng at the hotel.

“Su Shen! What a coincidence, you’re also in this episode?” Wang Cheng took off his baseball cap and immediately walked from the hotel front desk to the entrance.

Su Shen also smiled when she saw him and then asked Xiao Zhou to check in.

By this time, a lot of staff members of the show and a few guests had already arrived at the hotel. Seeing the two of them chatting so closely, they all wondered who Su Shen was. After thinking for quite a while, they then remembered the trailer from two days ago.

“Do you want to get dinner tonight? I’ll treat you!” Wang Cheng bumped her arm with a smile.

After a long drive, Su Shen was truly a little tired. She shook her head and said, “Not today; I’ll treat you next time.”

“Promise then; you have to treat me to dinner next time, especially that steamed pork with rice flour*. I had others’ but it’s not the same taste as yours. What secret recipe did you use?” Wang Cheng followed her with curiosity.

steamed pork with rice flour – fen zheng rou, search it up on Google if interested!

When the elevator arrived, she walked in and glanced from the corner of her eye, “You already said it’s a secret recipe, how can I tell you?”

Her room was on the second floor. As her celebrity status was not as high as that of others, she stayed in an ordinary hotel room. For top stars like Wang Cheng, they stayed in a luxury suite.

As she entered her room, Su Shen rested for a while and then called her Mom, telling her that she would go home for dinner the day after tomorrow. Just because she was busy earning money doesn’t mean that she should neglect her family.

The regular members of this show were Zhang Qianqian, Yang Yun, Yuan Zheng, Zhou Jun, and Zhao Feng. Zhang Qianqian went the idol route and her acting was quite good, but she was never popular. Ultimately, because of this show, she blew up and rose to being one of the Four Dan actresses. As for Yang Yun, she was a child star and went the comical route, mostly filming bourgeois dramas. The other three regular male members all had a great variety show sense, and they all filmed movies, with only Zhao Feng filming modern dramas.

Apart from her and Wang Cheng, the other three guests were also well-known. For example, Deng Chun was a TV Emperor and Wang Chunxin recently won the Best Supporting Actress award. Ye Meng’s background was even more amazing. Although she was not very popular, her father was a well-known director. Despite spending so many resources on her, she was not popular.

The online speculation about which best actor got arrested intensified online. All other matters in the industry were put on the sideline. Even the news of a B-list male actor having an affair did not cause much disturbance. No one knew when the matter would subside.

Early the next morning, Su Shen changed her clothes, got her makeup done, and went to the filming site. For this episode, it was an ancient theme, so she changed into a pink hanfu*. When she rushed to the filming site, the others had also changed into their ancient-styled costumes. Wang Cheng wore the uniform of an imperial bodyguard, wearing his hat comically.

hanfu – traditional style of clothing for Han Chinese

After almost everyone arrived, the Director asked them to prepare for filming.

Once filming starts for a variety show, it would continue to film all the way until the end. You also have no idea how the production team would edit in the post-production, so it was very likely that small things would be magnified.

It was not until the cameras started rolling that the Director suddenly spoke, “Welcome to this quaint water town, everyone. Today, we are going to split into two teams to compete. Over there is a box, and those who draw out balls of the same color are automatically divided into a team. You guys will compete for clues through competitions, and then go into town to look for the unknown Master. For the team that first finds the Master, the production team will donate 100,000 books to rural towns in their names.”

As soon as the Director finished his words, the group of people began to discuss in a murmur.

“As soon as I saw Su Shen, I knew that we’ll be in the same group. After all, our looks are on par!” At this moment, Yang Yun ran over grinning and held Su Shen’s arm. The others couldn’t help but chuckle.

Seeing this, Zhou Jun pointed at her and teased, “Su Shen must want to refuse in her heart!”

After all, they were regular members of the show and knew how to liven up the atmosphere. Several other people also began to joke around, and when it was about time, everyone went to draw a ball.

As expected, Su Shen and Yang Yun as well as Wang Cheng, Yuan Zheng, and Deng Chun were in the same team. Yang Yun hugged Su Shen grinningly and chatted with her for quite a while. She was very friendly, and in less than two minutes, she said that she would add her WeChat once filming ended, and invited her to dinner.

After dividing into teams, the Director spoke once again, “Okay, there’s ten beauties on stage right now. You have to find the one that can play the guzheng. The one that chooses the right person will get the first clue. Now, we will play rock paper scissors, and the winner gets to choose first.”

When Su Shen saw the guzheng on stage, she felt a little sentimental. From where she was from, any young lady from a noble family would know a little bit of the guzheng and guqin*. But unfortunately, few people would learn it now.

guqin – a long zither with seven strings, plucked with the fingers

After playing the first round of rock paper scissors, it was Zhou Jun’s team who won. Whilst Yang Yun muttered, “I heard that the calluses of those who play this are very thick.”

“Not necessarily, there are two kinds of calluses on the left hand. The first is the callus formed when the pinky is plucked. The other is the callus formed when the index finger, middle finger, and right finger are plucked. But since you can wear fake nails now, it does not mean that the one who has the thickest calluses is the one that can play the guzheng.” Su Shen calmly explained, with her eyes falling on the candidates that were on stage.

As her words fell, several other people looked at her with a strange expression, and Yang Yun couldn’t help but ask, “Do you know how to play it?”

Su Shen came to her senses when she heard that and noticed that the camera was pointing straight at her. She smiled at Yang Yun, “I know a little bit.”

“Usually those who know a little are actually very capable. Just like me, when people ask me if I can sing, I usually say just a little.” Yuan Zheng shrugged his shoulders narcissistically, and Yang Yun berated him jokingly.

Three minutes later, Zhou Jun’s team finally picked someone. At this time, it was also Su Shen’s team’s turn. There were nine candidates left. But when Su Shen checked their hands one by one, she found that none of them was right.

    Director: “Ten seconds left!”

“Hurry up, hurry up! Did you find the person?” Wang Cheng kept urging her.

Su Shen shook her head. The others all cried out “ahh”. In the last few seconds, Yuan Zheng pulled the one with the thickest calluses out in a hurry.

“AHAHAHA!” The other team laughed at them crazily.

After seeing that they have selected their pick, the Director continued, “Next, we will invite them to play Lofty Mountains and Flowing Water*. Also, the team that chose the wrong person will receive an unknown punishment!”

Lofty Mountains and Flowing Water – one of the top ten guzheng classics

  • You’re So Arrogant Chapter 43

Ye An glanced at his abs a few times and tried her best not to touch them. She reluctantly withdrew her gaze.

    “Let’s sleep then.”

Before the room fell into the darkness, Xie Shuo noticed her reluctance and a trace of regret in her gaze, and he was unsure how to feel about it.

So how many times had she been “peeping” on his body when he was blind?

He lay down on his back, and after a while, he heard the sheets rustle. Not long after, her body cuddled against his as usual, breaths falling lightly.

He turned his sideways. In the darkness, he couldn’t see her figure clearly, but he felt the strands of her hair against his skin.

He inhaled the fragrance from her hair and closed his eyes after a while.

The next day, Ye An woke up sometime before eight o’clock.

After washing up, she changed her clothes and picked out a black suit for Xie Shuo, and left the closet for him.

When she left, Xie Shuo stopped acting. He took off his nightshirt and started changing.

After buttoning his shirt, he picked up a tie and was about to tie it around his neck when Ye An suddenly entered. “Do you want to wear a tie?”

Xie Shuo froze, but his back was turned to Ye An. Fortunately, flaws in his performance were not obvious. He turned around with the tie in his hand, and before he could speak, Ye An took the initiative to walk up to him and take it from him.

She stood on her tiptoes, and her slender arms wrapped around the back of his neck.

Xie Shuo stood still. His gaze just happened to land on the tip of her nose, delicate and jade-like. Her breaths brushed over his face unintentionally, carrying her light fragrance.

Her lips were near his and were lightly pursed as if she was about to kiss him at any second.

Xie Shuo’s fingers twitched, and he had the sudden urge to wrap his arms around her waist.

Soon after, she stepped back as her nimble fingers wrapped around his tie. She moved closer to him with a focused expression.

Xie Shuo looked down and saw her delicately curled eyelashes that fluttered from time to time.

After tying the tie, she carefully adjusted the neckline for him. Her fingertips lightly brushed against the skin on his neck and left a tingling sensation.

“Do you want to wear a watch?” Ye An put her hands down and asked.

Xue Shuo avoided her gaze and replied with a light, “En.”

Ye An picked a watch out and helped him put it on. She even tidied up the cuffs for him along the way.

Ye An handed him his coat and said, “Wait for a minute; I haven’t put on my makeup yet.”

Her scent seemed to linger in the closet and didn’t fade until she went out. Xie Shuo picked up his suit jacket with one arm and waited for her outside.

Afraid that he would become impatient, Ye An put on light makeup and quickly returned to the bedroom. She saw the man standing in front of the French windows, exhibiting a noble air.

Hearing her footsteps, Xie Shuo turned around, his eyes pausing on Ye An’s face.

She had clear skin and naturally beautiful features, so she didn’t need heavy makeup. A simple makeup look made her look bright and gentle.

Afraid that she would notice, Xie Shuo only looked at her for a moment before looking away.

Ye An stepped forward and took his arm to guide him out of the room.

The two went downstairs to eat breakfast before leaving for the company.

The warm sun shone down on the winter day as the fog gradually dissipated, showing a clear view of the scenery.

Ye An was no longer as nervous as he was last time. She glanced out of the car window before turning back around to look at Xie Shuo.

Every time the man was focused, his aura was extremely powerful. His slender fingers were interlocked across his torso. His eyelids were slightly closed, and his expression was indifferent. His side profile was able to make hearts flutter.

Ye An glanced at him and felt that he was nicer to look at than the scenery outside the window. Thinking that he was still blind, she continued to admire him openly.

After staring at him for a while, she began to feel a little bored. A thought suddenly flashed through her mind, and she looked down to pull her phone out of her bag.

She put her phone on silent and turned on the camera to secretly take a picture of him.

Xie Shuo noticed her incessant staring but paid her no attention. He saw her holding up her phone out of the corner of his eye and finally couldn’t help turning his head.

Ye An was about to click the button, but when he suddenly turned his head, her actions stopped.

Two pairs of eyes met each other, and the atmosphere became tense and awkward.

Ye An froze for a few moments. For some reason, she had the feeling that he could see.

Xie Shuo looked at the phone in her hand, then her, and paused. He was usually decisive in his actions but didn’t know how to act at this moment.

If he said anything, his cover would be blown.

Therefore, his only option was to look away and pretend nothing happened. He asked calmly, “What time is it?”

Ye An finally relaxed. She glanced at the time and said, “Just past nine.”

After being interrupted, she no longer tried to take a picture of him. She put her phone away and looked out the window again.

Xie Shuo tilted his head to look at her side profile and inadvertently caught a glimpse of a tinge of redness at the tip of her ears, similar to the hue of peach blossoms.

        —–

After arriving at Junming Cooperation, Xie Shuo went directly to his old office, and Ye An waited in the lounge next to it.

This time, Xie Shuo only greeted Zhong Fu to avoid alarming others.

Zhong Fu was taken aback upon hearing of Xie Shuo’s recovery and stared into Xie Shuo’s eyes. It took him a while to return to his senses and ask, “Do you want to inform the board of directors?”

Xie Shuo said lightly, “No, keep it a secret for now.”

The office was cleaned early in the morning, so the desk was cleared. He turned on the computer, entered the password, and asked, “Have you prepared everything I told you to?”

“Everything is ready,” Zhong Fu said, opening his own laptop.

In the office, the sounds of their clicking keyboards could be heard.

Not long later, Xie Yuran suddenly came over.

Ge, your eyes…” He was stunned at the sight of Xie Shuo sitting in front of the computer.

Xie Shuo didn’t intend to hide the news from Xie Yuran. He looked up at the latter and said, “I’m healed.”

This news came too suddenly to Xie Yuran. After a while, he suddenly showed a happy expression and looked excited. “Are you really healed? When did that happen?”

Xie Shuo said lightly, “A week ago.”

Xie Yuran was so happy that he didn’t know what to say and just kept smiling.

“Why were you in such a hurry coming in?” Xie Shuo asked while glancing at the folder in his hands.

Xie Yuran restrained his excitement and his smile. “There is something that I wanted to talk to you about.”

His tone sounded serious, so Zhong Fu glanced at Xie Shuo and said, “President Xie, I’ll leave first.”

When Zhong Fu left and closed the door, Xie Yuran said, “I’ve been looking for a specific person for a long time and finally found out some information about your car accident…which also has to do with Zhang Junfeng.”

Xie Yuran placed the folder in front of him. “The drunk driver had contacted him before indirectly. I suspect that Zhang Junfeng was instigating his behavior.”

Xie Shuo held the folder, opened it, took out the information inside, and skimmed it.

“I’m still looking for specific evidence, but it shouldn’t take long…”

“You’ve been investigating this matter?” Xie Shuo suddenly looked up and asked after finishing his reading.

Xie Yuran paused, with complex emotions in his eyes. “It’s such a big matter, of course, I had to investigate it…”

Xie Shuo looked at him and said nothing.

He knew the underlying tone of Xie Yuran’s words. From the time of the accident until now. Many people suspected his younger brother to be the one behind it. After all, they weren’t blood-related.

At the time, Xie Shuo was suffering, moody, and did have suspicions toward him.

Fortunately, his worst suspicions weren’t confirmed.

After a while, Xie Shuo lowered his gaze. He pressed the document against the table, and with dark eyes, he said, “It’s time to make things clear.”

        —-

After Xie Shuo entered the office, he hadn’t come back out all morning. Ye An was so bored sitting in the lounge that she could only browse the internet and play games on her phone while lying on the sofa.

At around twelve in the afternoon, an assistant finally knocked on the door.

Ye An was so hungry that her stomach was grumbling. She hurried out of the lounge to see Xie Shuo waiting outside the office, and she stepped forward and reached out to help him.

Xie Yuran had already left, so only Zhong Fu was by his side.

Seeing her attentive movements, Zhong Fu’s eyes flashed with surprise.

Does Madam Xie not know about President Xie’s recovery?

        —

They planned to eat at a high-end restaurant near the company building. The reserved room was clean and designed elegantly. There was a bouquet of pink roses on the table covered with a white tablecloth, which gave the illusion of a first date.

Ye An couldn’t help but feel somewhat surprised after entering the room. She thought they would eat directly at the company knowing about Xie Shuo’s workaholic habits.

The waiter approached them and handed her a menu. Ye An sat down next to Xie Shuo and turned to look at him. “Have you eaten here before? Is there anything that you want to order in particular?”

Xie Shuo looked at the pink roses on the table and said, “No.”

Zhong Fu had chosen the restaurant. Xie Shuo had rarely come before and was not familiar with it.

“I’ll read the names of the dishes to you; let me know what you want to eat.”

Ye An offered before beginning to report what was on the menu.

Xie Shuo’s brows while relaxed listening to her clear voice. His irritability and fatigue from the busy morning lessened.

The dishes came out quickly. Ye An picked out his dishes as usual before she began to eat.

“The food is pretty good here,” shesaid after taking a few bites.

Xie Shuo looked up. “You can tell Zhong Fu to book a room here later.”

“There’s no need. No matter how delicious something is, it can get old after eating it every day.”

Besides, she might have thought the food was so delicious becauseshe was starving, or maybe it was the pretty bouquet of roses on the table.

Xie Shuo didn’t reply and bowed his head to eat.

Ye An glanced at him happily from time to time.

After lunch, the two returned to the company. Xie Shuo headed into his office again, and Ye An continued to wait for him in the lounge. She was so bored that she had to charge her phone several times.

Around five in the evening, Ye An recalled Cen Qingyan’s advice. She hesitated for a while before heading over to knock on the door of the office.

Zhong Fu came to open the door. He was a little surprised to see her and said, “Madam?”

Ye An smiled lightly, looked inside, and said, “Are you still working? Professor Cen said that you shouldn’t work yourself too hard.”

Hearing her voice, Xie Shuo looked up from his desk. He paused and said, “Give me ten minutes.”

Although his eyesight has recovered, he could not stop taking medicine or doing acupuncture. Furthermore, he could not strain his eyes for more than eight hours a day.

She didn’t expect him to accept so easily today and happily answered, “Okay.”

She turned around and went back to the lounge. Zhong Fu looked at her leaving and thought: President Xie was so obedient to his wife.

Xie Shuo sorted the documents, turned off the computer, and got up.

When he got to the door of the office, he suddenly remembered to remind Zhong Fu, “Don’t let Madam know about my recovery.”

Zhong Fu was once again stunned and thought that it was strange. However, as an experienced assistant, he agreed and didn’t ask any more questions.

        —-

That night, Xie Shuo’s eyes felt sore. After dinner, he asked Ye An to massage his head.

“Are we going to the company tomorrow?” Ye An asked him after massaging his head and stretching her fingers.

“Yes.” Xie Shuo closed his eyes and leaned against the sofa to rest.

Ye An’s fingers brushed against her phone that she had previously tossed aside. She called the opportunity that she had missedto take pictures of him earlier in the day. As she looked at the handsome profile of the man under the lights, her fingers couldn’t help but start to twitch.

She opened her camera again and took a close-up candid of his profile.

As soon as she clicked the button, Xie Shuo opened his eyes and looked at her.

Ye An froze. She was unsure if it was because of the lighting, but she kept feeling as if his eyes seemed more lively than before.

When she realized that he couldn’t see her, her expression eased, and she openly took another picture of him.

    Xie Shuo: “…”

After she finished, she leaned on his shoulder relaxedly and began to filter through the pictures.

Xie Shuo looked at the top of her head and remained silent.

Ye An took a while to sort through the photos, and she suddenly found a photo from a while ago where she had secretly taken a picture of him the morning after their wedding.

In the picture, the man had an ice-cold expression, and he looked as if someone owed him a million dollars. There was a cowlick in his hair, and the photo looked weird.

Ye An couldn’t help but giggle, and she burst out laughing.

Hearing her laugh, Xie Shuo glanced calmly at her phone screen.

He saw the tuft of hair on top of his head at one glance.

    Xie Shuo: “…”

How many photos had she secretly taken of him?

Author’s note: Xiao Ye:???So, everybody except for me knows that you’ve regained your sight?

  • You’re So Arrogant Chapter 42

Xie Shuo watched her movements quietly as the lights and shadows weaved between her slender fingers.

Afraid that she would be discovered by him, Ye An stopped her movements and laid back into his shoulders. “If you can’t sleep, I can massage your temples.”

Before she could finish speaking, she suddenly turned away to sneeze.

It was a cold winter night, and although the heater was turned on, her fingers and shoulders were still chilled.

Xie Shuo glanced at the thin layer of pajamas on her body and pulled the comforter over her. He lay down on his side and said, “Go to sleep.”

He thought that she would return to the bed next to his, but after she turned off the light and laid down next to him. She wrapped her hand around his arm as if they were at home.

The room fell into darkness. Xie Shuo tilted his head and looked at her blurred outline beside his pillow. He opened his mouth wanting to say something but decided not to in the end.

The light breaths brushed across his shoulders and gradually deepened. Since the first day of treatment was beginning tomorrow, his insomnia inevitably returned. Xie Shuo was wide awake with his eyes open and only managed to fall asleep at around two or three in the morning.

Early the next day, Xie Shuo woke up in a trance. He thought that his ability to see was a dream until he turned to see a quiet face near him.

The morning sun passed through the gaps in the curtain and leaked into the ward.

He stared at the sleeping face beside him for a long time.

        —

For the next week, Xie Shuo stayed in the research institute to receive treatment. Cen Qingyan came to check on his condition every day.

Ye An stayed by his side to take care of him, and she had felt that there was something different about him. Although he still didn’t talk very much, the air of depression around him had faded quite a bit, and his personality had become much more peaceful.

Time passed quickly, and a week later, the two returned to the Xie residence.

The day they returned home, Xie Shuo locked himself in the study and stayed there for an entire afternoon.

Ye An had not seen him like this in a long time and subsequently felt uneasy.

Before leaving the institute, Cen Qingyan talked to Xie Shuo alone for a long time. Could there have been something wrong with the course of treatment, or did Cen Qingyan say something that destroyed any hope?

Ye An looked worriedly at the closed door, but she couldn’t go directly in. After standing there for a while, she sat in the living room and waited for him to figure things out by himself.

The sun was gradually sinking diagonally into the west with a blood-red hue.

At around six in the evening, Ye An knocked on the door again when it was time for dinner.

This time, Xie Shuo came outside. His expression looked all right, although a little tired. Ye An breathed a sigh of relief and reached out to support him.

“What were you doing in the study? Aren’t you tired?”

Xie Shuo didn’t reply, seemingly deep in thought.

The two went downstairs and sat down at the dining table, where the dishes had already been set.

Xie Shuo picked up his chopsticks and instinctively wanted to pick from the dishes, but his bowl was already taken away by Ye An.

As usual, she took her time to assemble his bowl and pick all his favorite pieces.

Xie Shuo paused the movement of his chopsticks and silently looked at her.

Fortunately, Ye An was so focused on serving his vegetables that she didn’t notice his unusual behavior just then. After choosing his dishes, she put his bowl back in front of him and moved his fingers to the rim of the bowl.

Xie Shuo pretended to not be able to see and felt around the rim of the bowl. He was careful from then on to not make the same mistake again.

After eating, Ye An didn’t give Xie Shuo a chance to retreat back into the study again. She took him out to the garden for a walk.

The hazy night covered his actions well. He no longer had to put on an act and let her guide him through the garden.

“What did Professor Cen say to you before we left?” Ye An asked after hesitating for a while.

Xie Shuo turned and replied lightly, “Nothing.”

Ye An clearly didn’t believe him. “If it was nothing, then why did you lock yourself in the study and refuse to come out after coming back?”

    Xie Shuo was silent.

Ye An’s hand slid down his arm and intertwined with his fingers. She looked up at him and said softly, “Don’t be upset, all right? If you don’t like Professor Cen’s treatment, then we can switch medical professionals.”

Xie Shuo paused and met her gaze. The night was dark, and the concern in her tone was obvious. There was no trace of callousness or fabrication.

When he couldn’t see before and was only able to listen, he naturally could not detect these subtleties.

“You really want for my eyesight to recover?” Xie Shuo asked after a while.

Ye An was confused by his question and said, “What are you talking about? Of course, I want your eyesight to recover!”

Xie Shuo’s gaze focused on her face before diverting into the distance.

    ???What was that for?

Ye An was even more confused upon seeing his reaction. She contemplated it before saying, “Did you think I wouldn’t want your eyesight to recover because of our agreement?” Ye An became angry. “What do you take me for? Don’t worry, when your eyes recover, we can divorce right then and there! I’ll never break that promise!”

Xie Shuo turned to see her humiliated expression. He didn’t know how she had arrived at this conclusion.

Ye An became angrier the more she thought about it. She released his hand and glared fiercely at him, taking advantage of the fact that he couldn’t see.

    Xie Shuo: “…”

The winter night was chilled Ye An’s face and down her neck, rendering her no longer in the mood to fight. She turned him around with a blank face, saying, “It’s cold; let’s go home.”

After walking a few steps, she suddenly heard Xie Shuo’s low voice say, “I didn’t mean it that way.”

Ye An stopped in her tracks, surprised. This Eldest Young Master had learned to defend himself?

Her anger instantly dissipated, and she was relieved. She walked farther and said calmly, “Whether you mean it or not, I never go back on promises. We’ll divorce once you recover.”

Xie Shuo listened to her words as he looked at her blurred profile. There were complicated emotions in his eyes.

The air was cool in the dark night.

        —-

    The two went back inside.

Sometime after nine in the evening, Xie Baiyan returned. He had come back from an evening event, so when he came back, he seemed drunk and smelled of alcohol.

As soon as he returned, he asked Ye An about the results of their consultation, and Ye An told him the truth about Cen Qingyan’s efforts to console them.

Xie Baiyan showed a disappointed look and sighed, appearing older than before.

Seeing his reaction, Ye An felt even worse. She smiled, comforting him. “Don’t be too worried. His situation has been improving; maybe he’ll be cured one day.”

Xie Baiyan knew that she was trying to comfort him and nodded. He said warmly, “Thank you for your help.” After a while, he asked, “Where is he?”

Ye An replied, “In the study.”

After returning from their walk, he locked himself in the study without any reason why.

“I’ll go see him. You should rest early.”

Xie Baiyan turned and headed towards the study. He walked up to the door and knocked, saying, “A’ Shuo, it’s me.”

Soon after, the door opened, and Xie Baiyan entered.

Ye An glanced at them from a distance and entered the bedroom.

The study was silent for a while.

Xie Baiyan looked at his uncommunicative son and suddenly asked, “A’ Shuo, do you still blame me for what happened to your mother?”

Xie Shuo sat at the corner of the sofa without saying a word. His eyes were dark, and half of his silhouette remained in the shadows.

Xie Baiyan’s eyes were bloodshot. He raised his hands to cup his forehead and said in a somber tone, “I shouldn’t have argued with your mother. If I knew something would happen, I would have never left her alone.”

His voice was somewhat hoarse because he had been drinking, and his tone was undulating with emotions.

Listening to his words, Xie Shuo finally reacted by turning to look at him.

Roughly saying, Xie Shuo hadn’t seen him in a year. His father looked a lot older. The hair on his temples was gray, and it was particularly noticeable under the lamp.

Xie Baiyan and his mother had been married for many years, and they had a good relationship. There were no illegitimate children or other serious problems, but she was frustrated with Xie Baiyan’s workaholic habits and excessive social obligations. After having a large argument one day, she went out to sea alone in a fit of anger.

At the time, Xie Baiyan was already preparing to hand the company over to Xie Shuo, but he didn’t expect that just as he finished tying up loose ends and before he could go find her, bad news arrived.

In the end, it wasn’t Xie Baiyan’s fault. Xie Shuo looked at him for a moment before suddenly saying, “I’ve regained my sight.”

Xie Baiyan was shocked. He looked up at Xie Shuo, thinking that he had heard wrong.

Xie Shuo stood up and Xie Baiyan a document that he had earlier sorted out on the desk. His movements were smooth and unobstructed, proving his ability to see.

Xie Baiyan was completely stunned, and it took a long time for him to return to his senses. He looked into Xie Shuo’s eyes and asked, “When… when did this happen?”

Xie Shuo said lightly, “A week ago.”

Xie Baiyan held the document and couldn’t control his emotions for a long time. The news had been so sudden that he had almost forgotten to be happy.

Xie Shuo sat back down and said, “Don’t tell anyone else. I’ve been investigating Zhang Junfeng recently. I suspect that he was the one behind the car accident.”

Xie Baiyan had heard Xie Shuo mention Zhang Junfeng’s potential involvement before, and he frowned upon hearing it. “I didn’t expect that he would do such a thing after having known each other for so many years.”

Xie Shuo’s eyes were cold. “He’s deeply rooted and doesn’t act rashly, so we have to take him off guard this time.”

Xie Baiyan quickly understood what he meant and asked him, “When are you planning on returning to the company?”

Xie Shuo leaned into the sofa and said, “Let’s go tomorrow and assess the situation.”

He paused before suddenly adding, “Also, don’t tell Ye An that I’ve recovered my eyesight.”

Xie Baiyan was stunned and puzzled when he heard Xie Shuo’s words. It was one thing to hide this information from outsiders, but Ye An had nothing to do with their company affairs. So why hide it from her? “Why are you hiding it from Ye An? She worries about you a lot…”

A strange look flashed through Xie Shuo’s eyes. “Just don’t tell her now. I’ll tell her when the time is right.”

This son of his always had his own opinions. Since Xie Shuo had said this much, Xie Baiyan had no choice but to agree.

The father-son pair chatted for a long time in the study.

When Xie Shuo returned to the bedroom, Ye An lay on the sofa reading script lines on her phone. She hadn’t worked in a long time and was afraid of losing her touch, so she practiced whenever when she was free.

After seeing Xie Shuo come in, she put her phone down and asked, “You’re done talking to Dad?”

Xie Shuo’s gaze fell on her face, and he replied with a light, “En.”

Ye An put on her slippers and got up from the sofa, saying, “I’ll go get your clothes and run a bath for you.”

Xie Shuo looked at her moving figure, and her previous words, “divorce once you recover,” ricocheted through his mind.

Ye An picked out some clothes for him, and after she came out of the bathroom, she continued to read the script on her phone on the sofa.

The sound of water came from the bathroom, and she didn’t go shower until he finished.

The weather was getting colder, so instead of wearing spaghetti strap night dresses like before, she changed into a cherry red nightgown that displayed her fair and slender calves.

She completed her bedtime skincare routine and walked toward the bedside. Xie Shuo was still awake and leaned against the headboard in a trance, and it was unclear what he was thinking about.

Ye An lifted the covers and climbed into bed. She neared his side, asking, “What are you thinking about?”

Xie Shuo looked up, but her figure fell directly in his line of sight. The neckline of her nightgown hung low, revealing a collarbone. The dip between her collarbones was as fair as snow, and the sights below were almost visible.

However, she didn’t notice his gaze and leaned closer towards him, the curves of her chest becoming even more obvious.

Xie Shuo’s eyes narrowed slightly. He paused for a few moments before looking away inconspicuously.

Since Ye An didn’t know he had regained his eyesight and thought that he was still blind, she didn’t bother to tighten her robes. She chose to remain comfortable; if it wasn’t as cold, she would have been wearing even less.

“I’m going to the company tomorrow,” Xie Shuo spoke straight ahead.

Ye An was somewhat caught off guard, but she considered it a good thing that he wanted to go. She asked, “What time are you going?“

    “Nine thirty in the morning.”

    “Then I’ll wake up earlier.”

Xie Shuo originally wanted to say that she didn’t have to go with him and remembered that if she didn’t accompany him, then it would look suspicious. In the end, he swallowed his words.

Ye An leaned on his shoulder and was about to prepare to let him sleep earlier, but she suddenly caught a glimpse of a small water stain on the collar of his nightshirt. It must have come from the water in the bathroom.

The black shirt he wore tonight had a loose neckline that revealed some of his chest and abdominal muscles. Ye An couldn’t help but sneak another glance.

She recalled the abs she had touched when she was drunk on the night of Xie Baiyan’s birthday, and her gaze slipped downward again.

Xie Shuo inadvertently turned just in time to see her bowing her head to look under his neckline at his chest. She looked ready to pounce at any moment.
Xie Shuo: …?What are you looking at?

  • Film Empress’s Daily Face Slapping Chapter 29.1

    Playing the Guzheng*

Guzheng – it is a Chinese plucked zither

Su Shen did not mind Xiao Zhou’s complaint. It was best to leave this matter to Liu jie to handle.

She noticed that after the movie trailer was released, she and Fan Meng were trending on hot search again. However, this time, she was not suppressed and attacked by netizens.

Netizen A: I must not be the only one who’s actually impressed by Su Shen’s acting?!

Netizen B: Sure enough, being instructed by a famous director is different. Director Huang is simply a miracle, even Su Shen attained acting skills under him. [laugh]

Netizen C: A passerby turned fan, looking forward to the full movie. Our beautiful Su Su [drooling]

Netizen D: The water army of the D-lister is here to wash the floor again. Front row, get out of the way!

Netizen E: Is this the original voice-over? The last sentence gave me goosebumps.

Netizen F: I see this kind of meaningless catfight each and every time. Regardless of how well the actors performed, we should wait for the movie to be aired before making a judgment. To tear each other apart like this, is it to be gossip for other films scheduled for the same time? ps: For passerbys, stop calling D-Lister this or that. For a best actress to fight with a D-lister, don’t you think it’s devaluing themself?

Netizen G: Am I the only one caring about that kiss scene? Why isn’t it in the trailer? Is the production team trying to give us a surprise?

Netizen H: A dud movie! With the female lead’s stiff ass face, Wang Cheng’s exaggerated acting, an unknown supporting female lead, and the tasteless love triangle plot, even Xie Yan’s first onscreen kiss can’t save this dud movie. [smiley face]

The movie would not be released until after next year’s Chinese New Year. At that time, there would be a multitude of films released. From Su Shen’s perspective, the female supporting character was pitiful, but this was only her perception. From the perspective of God, she was the villainess in the entire movie. The male protagonist had not done her any wrong and had even searched for her in private. After reuniting, he also advised her not to harm others. However, the female supporting character had already been overwhelmed by jealousy and continued her evil acts.

All in all, the war scenes and description of the troubled times period were impressive. It may be that the screenwriter was not very adept in writing love scenes, hence why the depiction of the love triangle plot was crudely portrayed. She had to rely on her own understanding to act out the scenes, else the supporting female character was a villainess through and through throughout.

After the trailer came out, many people said that this movie was ruined by her and Wang Cheng, and that Fan Meng’s stiff ass face could not be looked at. It was definitely going to be a dud. It could be seen that those antis were in fact water armies. The competition for movies airing around the spring festival was intense. Other production teams must have wanted to discredit the impression of this film to passerbys. After all, tearing down one film was still one film. In two months, this film will start pre-sale.

After scrolling through the comments, Su Shen sent Liu jie a message to inform her about the matter with the script. Liu jie just said she would handle it.

Her scenes today had not changed much, so Su Shen continued to shoot all day. When she returned to the hotel at night, the comments online were not just targeted at her but at the entire film.

In particular, a marketing account had even posted an equivocal breaking allegation, saying that a certain young best actor from China was caught by a police raid at a brothel abroad. He had just been released on bail and had not returned to China yet.

As soon as this news broke out, it caused an uproar.

The scope of a young best actor from China narrowed down the list a lot, with several candidates. But those antis were pointing to Xie Yan. There were also others who said that Xie Yan was still in the country and had not gone abroad. However, Xie Yan’s whereabouts had always been concealed. This fact was used by those antis who began to throw mud at him wantonly.

Netizen A: Dogs that can bite don’t bark. Some people’s persona was being low-profile, but they play around the most behind the scenes!

Netizen B: Stop beating around, you marketing dog! Show your evidence!

Netizen C: I feel like there is a conspiracy behind all this. Why did a large number of people say that it was Xie Yan as soon as the news broke out?

    Netizen D: Movie hype?

Netizen E: Are you stupid, PP*? Which movie will use this to hype? It’s obvious that they are trying to splash dirty water. Since the trailer was released, the movie’s been ridiculed. It’s clearly a conspiracy by other production teams. After all, who doesn’t want a piece of the cake during the Spring Festival quarter!

PP – Previous Poster of a thread forum

Netizen F: Even low-profile people will be attacked; Yan ge, come out and slap them in the face!

The public opinion was so boisterous that it overwhelmed the hype of the trailer itself. Su Shen definitely did not believe that Xie Yan was such a person. Moreover, he was clearly having dinner with her yesterday, but this allegation was too coincidental. Breaking the news as the trailer got released?

Su Shen sent a message to Liu jie and asked; it took about five or six minutes before she responded.

Liu jie: It’s true that another film’s production crew is spreading libel against you guys’ film, but your production crew will also counterattack. But Xie Yan’s case is indeed a coincidence. From the news I got, Ma Yue was arrested by a police raid on prostitution rings abroad. As for why it’s all pointing to Xie Yan, you may not know but there’s a Hollywood blockbuster that has intentions to cast someone from China. It’s a Hollywood production, who wouldn’t want a slice of that cake?

It sure was different among A-listers fighting for roles—with a breaking allegation the next moment. Even if Xie Yan clarified, he would still leave a bad impression behind.

Su Shen didn’t think too much of it, and she was not in the position to catfight either.

After taking a shower, Su Shen was about to go to bed when she logged onto Weibo and saw that Xie Yan’s swift and exceptional manager had taken action once again. He first showed Xie Yan’s flight ticket from Shanghai to Guangzhou this morning and then posted a lawyer letter. He had even exposed the user IDs of the most malicious anti-netizens, seemingly as if they were going to sue them.

Xie Yan was still in the country and thus, those antis naturally backed off. But the public opinion did not reduce in the slightest, and people were still discussing which best actor got arrested.

When Su Shen got up and went to set the next day, the popularity of the matter online did not subside one bit and had even started a national discussion on whether it was Ma Yue or Zheng Tong. However, this was also beyond Liu jie’s expectations. She had planned to use the trailer to haul back the comments criticizing her poor acting, but she didn’t expect this to happen.

“Su Shen, come here.” The Director sat in front of the monitor and motioned for her.

Su Shen just happened to finish changing into her costume, and she walked over while lifting her dress. The Director handed her another script, “What do you think of this?”

Early in the morning, many staff members were still following the spectacle online. Su Shen sat on the stool at the side and carefully looked through the script. She found that there were some changes, and although her scenes did not increase, they became more important. It resulted in her role becoming more prominent. However, Zhu Qinqin’s scenes were, as usual, many.

“It’s fine.” Su Shen closed the script and didn’t say much. After all, this was also the result that Liu jie fought for.

“That’s good. You can go, it’s almost time to start filming.” Seeing her agree, the Director didn’t say much more.

Su Shen took the script and left. It’s quality rather than quantity that counts. Ultimately, the public would curse at the screenwriter, not her.

  • I Am A Matchmaker On Taobao Chapter 65

Qin Yingran naturally did not know she had been made the scapegoat. She had been looking forward to meeting Han Xingyan since she learned that he also lived in this community. However, she did not know why she had not seen Han Xingyan in a long time.

Han Xingyan did not appear recently since he knew Shen Chuchu would be in the imperial capital so he returned to his old residence for a few days.

“Xingyan, you are not young anymore. You need to think about your marriage. If you aren’t quick enough then your grandfather may not see your wife.” Grandpa Han sat on the sofa and looked at his grandson.

Han Xingyan’s heart tightened and comforted, “Grandpa, you will live to a hundred. Even the doctor said if you take good care of your body, you won’t have any major problems in the future.”

Grandpa Han waved his hand and smiled, “There is no difference from living to eighty and a hundred. I’ve already experienced the ups and downs and walked the road I should have taken. I have no regrets in life. It’s just that I have a little regret that you haven’t taken a wife yet. What will I tell your grandma when I am down there?”

Han Xingyan pursed his lips and uncomfortably replied as he looked at his grandfather, “Actually I already have one.”

Grandpa Han was stunned to hear this and his movements paused. He asked suspiciously, “You say you already have a girlfriend? When did this happen? Why has your father never mentioned it? Your mother even said a couple of days ago that she was going to introduce you to some girls.”

“It’s quite recent. It has only been a couple of days.” Han Xingyan replied when he saw that his grandfather was filled with curiosity.

“Good good. It’s good that you have a girlfriend. I was worried that you may not find someone for the rest of your life. Haha.” Grandpa was both relieved and excited that he added, “Also, bring her to see me in a couple of days.”

Han Xingyan hesitated and replied, “It’s still too early. I will bring her after some time.”

Grandpa Han’s face went cold from Han Xingyan’s explanation and said, “What, you don’t want to?”

When Han Xingyan peered into his grandfather’s enquiring eyes, he felt a sense of powerlessness. He was not against it but was worried that Shen Chuchu would not agree. After all, they have only been together for a few days. If he suddenly brought up bringing her to see his family then he was uncertain she would agree.

“That’s not it. I will ask her.” Han Xingyan replied.

Afterwards, Grandpa Han’s face looked somewhat better and said, “That’s right. As a man, you need to take responsibility. You must not learn from those who are changing girlfriends every day. If this was in the past, they would be in jail for sleeping around!”

Han Xingyan sat quietly opposite his grandfather and listened to his reprimands.

When Han Xingyan returned to work the next day, he discovered that word of his girlfriend had spread across the workplace, and everyone knew about it.

Firstly it was his mother: “Son. Do you have a girlfriend? Is it Miss Shen?”

“Did Zhang Teng tell you?” Han Xingyan asked and looked at Zhang Teng, who stood in front of him pretending to be innocent.

Mother Han replied. “No need. You’ve moved across to Miss Shen’s apartment. Even a blind man can tell. I didn’t realise my son had such great emotional intelligence. It’s a shame I assumed you didn’t know anything. You are my son after all.” Mother Han was very proud.

After the call ended, Han Xingyan looked at Zhang Teng, “You really didn’t say anything?”

Zhang Teng raised his hand, “Cousin, I swear it was not me.” What he did not say was that he did divulge some information about his cousin’s neighbour.

Afterwards, it was Han Xingyan’s childhood friend: “Okay, our Young Master Han has finally bloomed. But which fairy came to earth and was able to take down our pure and unfeeling Tang Sanzang*.

*TL-note: Tang Sanzang is a central character in the 16th-century novel Journey to the West by Wu Cheng’en. Tang Sanzang is based on the historical Buddhist monk Xuanzang. His character is a kind and compassionate monk who is very obedient to the rules and prohibitions of Buddhism.

Han Xingyan: “…” It made it seem as if Shen Chuchu was a bewitching woman.

After knowing that Shen Chuchu would be back the next day, Han Xingyan left the company the night before and returned straight to Liyuan Apartments. As soon as he entered the area, he found that the front was blocked. The driver was talking to someone in front. After waiting a while, he noticed that the car in front of him was still stopped motionless. He honked the horn but the owner of the car in front of him did not respond.

Han Xingyan had no choice but to exit the vehicle. He approached the car after locking it and learned that the owner of the car in front had accidentally hurt a dog in the neighbourhood. The driver wanted to leave but passersby stopped him.

“This dog is not even yours so why do you care about it. This must be a stray dog.” The driver said angrily.

“Even if it’s a stray dog, what you did was wrong. Do you not have compassion?”

“What do you mean I have no compassion. Little girl, don’t randomly label people. I don’t have the same patience as you when it comes to stray dogs. I need to hurry home for dinner so get out of the way.”

As they busily argued, more and more people gathered around. Han Xingyan glanced at the dog then at the driver and frowned.

“No matter what, you better take the dog to the animal hospital first.” Han Xingyan had spent the entire day at work. He could not help but speak up when he saw so many people just watching and doing nothing.

They stopped arguing at the same time and glanced at Han Xingyan. The car owner examined Han Xingyan’s appearance before moving on to Han Xingyan’s vehicle. He recognised the guy in front of him as wealthy and reputable, and he refrained from saying anything anymore. The little girl who stopped the car owner, her eyes lit up when she saw Han Xingyan and wanted to say something. But, someone approached her from behind before she could say anything.

“That’s right. Just as Mr Han said, hurry and take the dog to check its injury. What a poor little dog.” As she talked, Qin Yingran crouched down and then looked up at Han Xingyan.

    “Ah, Qin Yingran!”

“Yes it’s Qin Yingran, this is my first time seeing her here.”

“She’s so pretty in real life.”

Han Xingyan’s expression darkened when he saw Qin Yingran.

“Since the matter is resolved, everyone should disperse.” Han Xingyan said and glanced at Qing Yingran. Afterwards, he turned around and got into his car.

The owner in front immediately peculiarly said, “Ah, only you celebrities have compassion. How could we, normal people develop affection for cats and dogs? Thank you Miss Qin for quickly resolving the problem.” He then opened the car door and got in.

Qin Yingran felt a little perplexed as she saw Han Xingyan and the owner of the car that hit the puppy get inside their cars one after the other. She did not understand how the situation developed into this. When did she say she will take the injured dog to the animal hospital?

It was just difficult for her to stop midway in the face of the observers’ comments.

“Woah, Qin Yingran is so compassionate. I will post on Weibo.”

“She is very kind and does not care that the dog is so dirty.”

Qin Yingran listened to these discussions, and the smile on her face became a little stiff. After a few tries, she finally closed her eyes and picked up the injured dog. She also said, “What a poor little dog, I can’t bear to leave it.”

After she picked up the dog, the driver who hit the dog started honking his horn. Qin Yingran stepped back and stood on the steps. Then she stood there helplessly as Han Xingyan, who she had been waiting for so long, swiftly left. She could only detect a faint odour of car exhaust and the stench of stray dogs under her nose.

She wanted to toss the dog down, but with so many people watching, she had no choice but to smile and carry it before leaving. When there was no one around the corner, the assistant in charge of taking pictures stepped forward.

“Ran-jie, there is no one here.”

Qin Yingran heard this and quickly threw the dog onto the ground. She heard the dog bark and glanced at it with disgust.

“Did you take the photos?” Qin Yingran quietly asked.

The assistant shook the camera in her hand and proudly said, “Mission accomplished. I also captured the moment you picked up the dog.”

Qin Yingran nodded with satisfaction then glanced with disgust at the dog again, “That’s good.” Finally, today’s work was not in vain, it can be said that it was completed in one swoop.

The next day in the afternoon, Shen Chuchu, who was about to board the plane, was instantly upset when she saw two familiar names on Weibo’s hot search.

Despite the fact that she knew Han Xingyan was not such a person based on her knowledge of him, it was inevitable that she would feel bitter in her heart after reading such news. The photograph of two people standing together and staring at the dog was particularly beautiful.

She wanted to call Han Xingyan and question him. Why did he flirt with another woman after flirting with her? What was his purpose in messaging her every day on WeChat and ordering her meals? However, she also felt she had no right to question him.

Because she always had the impression that there was a sort of distance between them and that their relationship was less formal.

Shen Chuchu and her assistant boarded the plane after hearing the boarding announcement. She did not turn on her phone after disembarking the plane and did not call Han Xingyan as she had promised a long time ago. Han Xingyan did not ask for her flight number today anyways, she thought. If she called him and he had forgotten then it would be embarrassing.

Wang Qian was really puzzled when Shen Chuchu called for a taxi. Did she not refuse the prepared taxi because CEO Han was coming to pick her up? Why was she calling for a taxi now? Didn’t she seem fine at boarding? Why has her mood suddenly changed now? People who are in love are really hard to figure out.

Wang Qian could not figure out her boss and could only silently follow her into the taxi.
